I’ve only come back online to post this sad news.

The Pointer Sisters were big but when I was taking notice it was Ruth, Anita and June. Bonnie by that stage had done the ‘solo career’ thing after kicking off the group. However you’ve gotta acknowledge a group of black singers performing a country and western hit at the Grand Old Oprey. Pretty impressive. She now joins June who passed away in 2006.

For those old enough to remember. RIP Vera. In cricket parlance you had a good innings and it was very productive.

For those too young...

And another troubled genius I missed from a couple of months back, Aaron Tokona from Weta, Fly My Pretties, and one of the best band names in rock, Cairo Knife Fight. Had frontman flair in spades, and a ridiculously good guitarist. Gone too young at 45.

Aroha

For any Shihad fans this was written about Aaron...

I knew Mike Noga was in The Drones, but never knew much of his solo stuff until he kept appearing in my spotify feeds...some great stripped back tunes.

It would appear suicide has taken another young man.
