There's much more to a city than beaches and river. It's why Sydney is such a popular place to live.

It's my favourite city but you'd have to question why your there if your stuck in Blacktown, Liverpool, Rooty Hill etc

I lived on Balmoral Beach in the 90s and every morning was like waking up in a scene from the movies.

Got billeted out in Sydney on a U14's WA rugby tour, first stop Parramatta/Seven Hills, massive eye opener.

Then we stayed in traditional rich campaigner rugby union territory like Manly, Narrabeen and Warringah.

We stayed in some nice places but there was some bloody weird units getting about there.

People that didn't know Perth existed or where it was on the map, maybe that's normal for Sydneysiders.

:thumbsu:

The original Perth is about 30km up the river from Dundee. Or did you mean the one about 20k south of Launceston?

seriously? who would live in Sydney, if a house in Blacktown is $1+m.

I really feel for kids these days.

Have definitely lived in Sydney too long when I'm looking at that first link and thinking 'that's actually reasonably priced' :'(

The last three weeks of weather have been an absolute abortion.

No wonder I hate living in this Kabul of the Pacific

Yes I am kinda sick of the rain now.

Returned home 3 weeks ago after being away for 8 months (most of it being spent in Europe during winter) and couldn't wait to enjoy some good weather, beach time etc... but nope, rain pissing down most days since I've been back.

It might have been understandable if it was one of those Perths they were clueless about but this was Perth in Western Australia.

About the only thing they knew about Perth was that they had the America's Cup there.

Have never lived there but spent a fair bit of time there most years. Lots of mates down there.

As recently as 3 nights ago, my missus was at RPA hospital having minor surgery. I spent an evening at the Alfred Hotel across the road, won 9 schooners at trivia and had about 90 minutes to down them on top of the 5-6 I'd already had. Slammed most of them down, ran down the street and got a cab to Haberfield where my motel was.

Was tired as f***, so sat down in the shower with the idea of relaxing for 10 minutes before hopping into bed.

Next thing it's 2am and 4 cops are standing there looking at my disgusting naked carcass.

I have epilepsy and it turns out that I'd had a seizure while I was sleeping in the shower, and my missus and brother had been ringing me the entire time and ended up ringing the cozzers in case I'd carked it or something.

Sydney ftw

These 2 unremarkable homes in BLACKTOWN, that's right folks, BLACKTOWN, 40km west of the CBD both sold for over $1million the joint is officially ******.

When the bubble explodes, there will be carnage.
Yeah I think I read a link somewhere which said that the only places that were actually affordable to rent were like 50-60kms away from the CBD. Gonna be a hell of a time trying to find a place to live when it happens.

Dis weather though.

Literally perfect out there atm , 25 deg 46% Humidity
Hardly a lick of breeze

Dreading the idea of having to move there because there is no work elsewhere. If I get a job there, I'll be looking to get out again straight away.

Its nice around the harbour, I guess some of the beaches but I'm not a beach person and certainly not an overcrowded beach person.

Everything else about the place screams shithole.

Broken transport system, driving or public. The train system alone needs maybe $1trillion spent on it, to bring it up to the needs of the 1990s. I think a lot of that comes down to the amount of waterways all over town, it gives afew nice scenis areas, but must makes putting together a road and rail system very difficult.

So much, even near to the CBD, is just rundown and shoddy. Even London on a grey doesn't look as dreary as Sydney with the sun out. And the CBD itself is somehow overbearing in most of it. Maybe its just that so much went up in a time of dark and dingy architectural style, but the place feels creepy in a way no other big city I'vce been to manages.

The humidity. OK, its no no Darwin or even Brisbane. But warm and humid kills me. Very, very close to literally. Much closer than many people use the term "literally" for these days. Hot and humid = only sleep comes through passing out; and that is literally literally.

Housing prices that are just fantastically stupid, buying or renting. Seriously for the rent of the crappy two-bedder I'm in now I can get a fibro shed an hour by train from the CBD. There seems to be nothing liveable under $450 p.w. across the whole city. And that's not counting whether its a decent area or Sunnyvale come to life. I have no idea how anyone on an average salary lives in that place, much less the un- and under- employed.

You're catastrophising a bit. Sounds like you're just not a big city person. I figure whether people prefer Sydney or Melbourne generally involves what kind of inconveniences they prefer (e.g. shitty bitter winters vs shitty humid summers).

Property prices in Sydney are the biggest killer, Melbourne is much nicer on an average wage.

Rent as actually within sight of the average worker (just!). As for buying that house within 50-60k - FAAARGGGGGGED ABOUT IT
