Actually he does have a chance, its very likely the Chinese owner bought the house as a status symbol and probably forgotten he owns it.

You can't even write anything resembling a proper paragraph or write even remotely coherently, like the above post clearly demonstrates. (How the hell are you trying to 'taking a guy' and why is it 'hard' to do so?) There are online names that don't even make the slightest bit of sense that you leave alone so clearly you are beyond grasping at straws as online names don't even need to make sense. Eg 'free tara brown' with no capitals for a name. Id love to know the imaginary loophole you are now making up. At least just admit you don't have the guts to make a bet.

Doesn't there need to be a condition met about the potential new owner's occupancy being known and obvious to the owner?

And didn't they say the council may simply decide to repossess it, sell it at auction, and hold what is left after rates in trust for the owner or family to claim? I can't imagine they'd allow someone to squat and successfully claim a high profile house?

I'm not entirely sure about the specifics, but what I am suggesting would be 'illegal', but given the circumstances wouldn't matter as the owner wouldn't have a clue unless informed. The house in question is pretty much abandoned, the guy made the mistake of informing neighbours of his intention when he could have moved in and no one would be the wiser.
