List Mgmt. The talls situation

Can we play more than 2 of A pearce, Hamling, Collins, Silvagni and Dawson.

Neither of these players have brilliant skills, do you need to surround them with good skills.

I can't see Silvagni staying or Dawson getting extended and we need a good 3rd tall.

The year we got Jack Anthony via the PSD we avoided a tall in the main draft picking up Pitt, Michie and Mellington.

I hope we draft at least 1-2 talls, always need depth.

Nah.....we can always just trade the talls in! No sweat, Bondy got it going on this trade period!!:D:D

I don't think you can confidently say it's been repaired just yet.

None of the talls we're getting are proven performers. They're just all young players that have shown a bit but remain players with potential.

They are good pickups, but I'm still worried that Johnno will ever return to near his best. Will he play a couple of games and then breakdown ?.

If we finally get Hamling, he would slot into Johhno's position.

I've made peace with the fact this is the likely outcome. Hope I'm wrong and he can get another year out. Jut can't see it happening... Sad.

I will not go into rucks as thats in another thread.

As for the tall backs..... We have Dawson, Johnson, Silvagni as the veterans, Alex Pearce and Sam Collins under 23.

I stated that for 2017 and 2018, we needed to put games into Alex Pearce and Sam Collins as by the end of 2018, both blokes will notch up 50 games each while Dawson and Johnson are slowly phased out.

2 months ago, I didnt think we are a chance to get hamling. He wants to come here so that has thrown a wrench to a situation.

As for the forward line.... Dont confuse destruction with expansion. Gone are the days of Pav Kicking 60 goals a season...

Now we have McCarthy with us, Kersten might join and both are over 190 cms. Tabs is our most experienced with 46 games. Apeness is a Ruck forward. I expect 2 of those blokes to kick at least 30 goals each or 60 between them in 2017

Depending on match ups I'd say yes...

Given the job Hamling did on Cyril (admittedly with the help of team defence) he's athletic/versatile enough to play on smalls.

Collins would take the opp's biggest fwd. AP floats around as the 2nd/3rd defender

Also why I'd have Mundy, Weller and Johnno (if fit) play down back. Need the foot skills to take it out of defensive 50. Mundy & Johnno also provide the leadership

Early as it is, I would predict our best six down back looks like:

Hamling, Dawson, Pearce
HillBy, Johno, HillSy

This makes Silvagni, Collins and Ibbo as essential backup players. Although I would happily trade Silvagni if someone wants him as we have Ubergang developing nicely.

Thoughts?

Prefer the Hill Bros on the wing kicking lace out into our fwd 50 personally

Especially with Brad having a massive tank...wouldn't maximize his ability to run opp players into the ground ;)

Lee Spurr and Hayden Crozier say hi

No way, B Hill plays off half back

Welcome back, 9 years is a helluva long time between drinks. I don't think we'll be playing 4 talls down there though and I'd expect Ibbo to play all games.

Thanks for the welcome back, I am more of a reader than a writer.

I agree, we wont often play four talls down back and I do expect more games from Ibbo/Spurr.

I wonder how tabs would go on a wing where he can use that big tank. Maybe his decision making isn't good enough, but it got better last year.

If he played ahead of Clarke he might be able to have a Blicavs type impact around the ground. Tabs was actually pretty good when he was 1v1 last year, its when he is held out 2v1 he struggles to get it to ground imo.

Then let apeness play up forward where his pack crashing will help our small forwards. I think he will improve quickly after a full pre-season if he stays fit and healthy.

I doubt he's got the agility. Blicavs was an elite runner (and I mean really elite, not just AFL elite) and a steeplechaser. He had the speed, endurance and agility before playing in the AFL. Tabs has decent enough endurance, but also has the turning circle of the QE2 and I don't think he's that quick off the mark.
IMO he's either a lead up forward or nothing.

Iv never wanted a bloke to make it as much as Apeness. He just seems perfect for that Forward/Ruck role. A 200cm bloke who only played one year of football before being drafted, and then has injury problems is always going to take longer to develop. Fingers crossed he gets a full preseason!
I with you here. Massive season for Apeness. We've really got to back him in now, play him 22 rounds and get him to that 50-60 games as quick as we can. Alex Pearce is the other one. Has the potential to be an AA, but has to stay on the park. Just so important to the rebuild these two turn in to A graders.

Cant wait to see freo in nab without sandi and mJ .
