Hmmm. Not sure T-Bone. Will take that under advisement.

Enter The Dragon.
Absolutely quality but in my warped mind I’d file that under martial arts.

Top 5 for me;

Die Hard 1
Lethal Weapon
The Rock
Con Air
First Blood

Stiff to miss out:

The Bourne Ultimatum, Face/Off, Commando

Rotten tomatoes throws all martial arts into the Action category, but whatevs.

Die Hard 1, Lethal Weapon and The Rock ticks. Bourne as well.

Dark Knight ?

Looking at RT, it includes movies like Taking Pelham 123 the original (great movie).

Cant argue with that, the original was scary/awesome. Could throw the Dirty Harry movies in there as well

Totally. What a city.

What are the top 5 NYC movies or movies based in and around NYC ? First few that come to mind are the Godfather movies and Midnight Cowboy and Taxi Driver. Saturday Night Fever is pretty cool for original Brooklyn street scenes.

When I was in New York in 2017 I happened to be there when the Red Sox were in town so the Yankees game I caught was against them. Awesome night! Getting the train back to Manhattan was easier than getting one at Richmond after a big game at the G!!! I listened to us beat Norf on 3AW on my phone at 6 in the morning in my hotel room. Quite surreal! Watched the replay later that afternoon at The Australian Bar which, instead of being full of Aussies, was full of Yanks watching the UEFA Cup final :(

Yeah its fantastic isn't it. 161st street. I've been to Yankee Stadium heaps including a great Red Sox victory where we pummeled the Filthees. Sat directly behind Tracey Ullman the comedian on the 3rd base line. She was really cool for a Filthees fan. And yes, our trains are an embarrassment compared to how they move big crowds around so easily in NYC. Its just as easy going to Citi Field in Queens. Really shits me the football trains in Melbourne.

That first subway line that ran from City Hall to 145th street (about 9 miles) and is still used today, was built by hand in just 4 years. Imagine that nowadays. You'd be looking at some bullsh*t quote of 15 years or whatever and billions and billions of dollars.

I actually found Citifield by accident! I went out to Queens one day and went out along that line, unaware the stadium was there. There was nothing on that day but it was awesome to walk around the stadium.
The subway system is fantastic. I spent two weeks there and loved getting around on it. I'm not a mad baseball fan so I went to a Yankees game more for the experience but I'm sure you'll understand that because I was there I was cheering on the Yankees. They won 8-0 so it was a good night for a neutral tourist to be there! It was pretty much my life ambition to see NY so a couple of weeks there in June 2017 was the best thing I'd ever experienced in my life .......

Yeah its an amazing city on so many fronts. I've been going there since the 90's and have a deep love for it. I have heaps of history books, dvd's etc on all manner of NYC things (including the subway system). I especially like visiting and reading about the amazing and innumerable buildings in NYC. Some fantasic stories behind them all.

You should look up the shallow 'cut and cover' method of building a subway line. Dunno why we cant deploy something similar across Melbourne. You dont need to pull buildings down, dig deep etc. Much of NYC's subway lines were built after existing infrastructure was already in place. They built hundreds of miles of it, and did it quickly and cost effectively for the time.

And yeah Winning Time is good - although I hate the Knicks. All those 30 for 30's are good.

Early on during my stay I was walking along the street and looking down into one of the grates that are along the sidewalk and the top of a train went past!! It's not deep at all in some places!
They tell you not to walk around staring at all the buildings because you'll be easy prey for muggers but you really can't help it! Here is a building I went out of my way to check out. For the music fans, who can point out the significance???:

Me too after they took Billups from the Nuggets, wasn't sad to see Mello go.

Very nice, my wife doesn't like large cities, but she loved New York. I'm hoping to take the family around September for a few days, we were there early 2011 so haven't seen any of the 9/11 memorials. Would love to spend a couple of weeks there, but think we'll only be there for 2-3 nights.

I wanted to go over to Brooklyn to check out Mike Tysons area as well, didn't get the chance last time.

Real Madrid ⛪👑🏆
French Connection (1971), The Godfather (1972), The Conversation (1974).
Amazing era of films, Serpico, of course.
Pacino chimes in with Dog Day Afternoon.
Gene Hackman is off the charts.
Brilliant acting, he looks so ordinary and everyday, performing gestures.
Especially The Conversation.

Ah ....Dog Day Afternoon. Spewing I didn't come up with that. Another good get. Pacino awesome.

Not a movie but the Sopranos. In the early series' they shot a few scenes in NYC - namely inside the old Mulberry Street Bar in Little Italy. You can go in there and pretend to Tony Soprano propping up the bar or sitting out back on one of the tables. Mulberry street is also used in a lot of Godfather scenes. That whole area and down to the old nearby Five Points area and where the movie Gangs of New York (Dead Rabbit gang etc) is based around, is just a fascinating place. The old living conditions, the underworld and gang crime from bygone eras, the hits etc. Personally, find it really interesting.

If you go to the 9/11 memorial, take the time to do the museum. They've built it underground and it is staggering. Warning: be prepared to be stretched emotionally. There's some heavy duty stuff and experiences in there. The artefacts and stories are amazing.

You're more likely to get mugged in Melbourne than Manhattan. Everybody looks up and around now in NYC. Very safe.

St. Marks place in the East Village - can tell by the tattoo shop. Cheating and googling from thereon in = Rolling Stones "Waiting on a Friend" when Jagger is waiting for Keith to turn up.

Will have to check those out. Don't mind James Franco.

And of course the two most prolific NYC scene setting tv shows, Law and Order and NYPD Blue. Have the entire series' of both. Plenty of pictures on the steps of the Supreme Court on Centre Street. Heh heh heh....pretending to be Jack McCoy. (Godfather 1 shooting scene as well...Barzini gets shot by the fake cop.)
