One of the earliest albums I remember, (I had older brothers who purchased the LPs) was Shaved Fish, a compilation.

Always liked Nobody Told Me from Walls and Bridges.
Brilliantly constructed song.
Lennon even helped out Bowie with the backing vocals on Fame, which I thought was the best part of the song.
Personally, I didn't like Bowie's funk era, ie, Young Americans, but it appealed to the U.S. audience.
