As an Essendon supporter, nice to see that amazing 2000 team recognised again in some sort of public and considered way.

I think the numbers basically spell it out anyway, but as I said, nice to see.

What a team. Both the backline and forward line were almost All Aust lineups on their own. Incredible.

Whatever gets you through your life. Essendon taught everyone how not to do it. They over paid a couple of prima donnas called Hird and Lloyd and instead of winning multiple Premierships ended up with 1. A very ordinary return as this team really was shaping up to be "one of the best ever". They lost this right by paying over the odds for a couple of guys who thought they were greater than the whole. Sheedy's biggest blunder amongst many. The shame of recent times cements in concrete Essendon's flawed culture. So hang your hat on that 2000 win ...its all right .

Was a dominant year, lot of those players were never as good as that year in hindsight quite a lot of b/c graders there

I think the brisbane sides would kill them, like they did

didnt they cheat the cap?

Errr

It's not actually about multiple flags, it's an article about the single best team. Hawks, Lions and Geelong are nominated 3 times.

Pretty straightforward really.

Edit: Hawks 4 times

They didn't cheat the cap, they were just given a higher cap than most other teams to "equalise" the competition in their favour - like the swans.

What a load of crap, the Brisbane teams are by far the best, they would win the flag now. Voss, Acker, Black, Power still the most unstoppable mid force, the whole team is loaded with stars in every position....
If Brisbane were so unbelievably dominant - how come they never won a minor premiership? Sure they won the games when they mattered most but their H&A performances just don't meet their hype and memory.

So your argument is "they won the games that mattered" but didn't win the others... so they aren't that good...
Nice work mate, just keep pushing along the stereotype that Collingwood supporters are uneducated and have no clue..:

Probably a fair assumption that the writer, Daniel Cherny, is an Essendon supporter.

Interesting to note of their experts that just as many selected Brisbane as Essendon, but because they were spread across two seasons (2001 and 2003) this apparently means that Essendon 'wins'.

Again, it's pretty straightforward. The best team from a single year.

It was a genuine question. If you're going to be a smartass, why even reply?

For a single year, Essendon 2000 would probably be as good as it gets, though the opposition in 2000 was quite weak in my opinion. Though irrelevant to the OP, who is talking a single season (in what appears to be an attempt to pump up his own side, bit sad that you have to go back to 2000 to do that.) the point many are making is that Essendon didn't really achieve all that it should have, considering its supposed strength, and thus should be marked down. I tend to agree with that point of view.

Sorry, I'll answer seriously then...they were th architects of modern player managment and peaking at the right time, remember the Iv drips they were using before the AFL decided it wasn't a good look? They won the games they needed to when they need to. They were dead set amazing across every line, arguably the best ever mid field group. Fair to say Black arguably the best hands, Voss just unbelievable power player, Aker - yes he's a tool but I reckon the best kick off either side (kicked it longer and harder that Mitchell), Power was underrated to all hell and would come close the brownlow in any other side (that goes for Lappin too) & that's just a few players. What about Brown, Lynch, Johnson, Leppa, White, Hart, Mal the Scott's.... they were phenomenal

People say this.

The reality is we ran into a super side in 2001 and weren't the best team that year. The scenarios that led to that super team being assembled - and kept together - are well documented.

And the Brisbane team beat the Bombers in the 2001 final which was close to the Bombers 2000 side- who beat the "world beaters" Melbourne in that grand final....
If The 2000 was so good why did Brisbane beat them??? You would think the best ever side would win more than one flag or at least beat a good side (sorry for the Melbourne disrespect, but they weren't exactly a power house side who were regular contenders)

Carlton had more All Australian reps in 2000, five to four.
