I am probably only going to see 6 games this year.
(All at the G)

I refuse to go to the Telstra DUMP.

I am just wondering if any Hawk supporters actually
like that craphole of a ground and how mnay of our
5 home games you will be attending there?

Vote with your feet Hawk fans, becuase if we
go to that sh.thole of a footy ground you can bet
the powers that be will switch more and more games
there and we can kiss the G goodbye.

I've only been there once as I live in Tas, but was a little disapointed, looked a little artificial watching there and was expecting to have a great atmosphere with the roof on, but left disapointed. Has nothing on the MCG.

Sorry MH - but I've seen the Hawks play home games at Princess Park. I've seen them play at Victoria Park, Junction Oval, Moorabin, Arden Street, Lake Oval, Western Oval and Punt Road. As fond a place as Glenferrie has in my heart, I will admit it was far from luxurious, especially if you were standing out in the terraces on a September afternoon.
Point is MH, if I'm in Melbourne I'll attend Hawks games at TD. I'd prefer the MCG, but I'm not avoiding a game because of the venue. You see, I've watched them play in far worse S h i t holes, C r a p holes, and dumps than the Telstra Dome.

So have I, If you can tell me that there has been more atmosphere
at the Telstra Dump than any of those other grounds then your kidding yourself.

The Telstra Dump is marketed to those that have no idea what going
to the footy and following your club means.

Hmmm, will I have a glass of champagne as i watch that goal or
some cheese and kaviar

The Western Oval, Princess Park (before being the OO) Waverly, Junction Oval, even Kardinia Park all had atmosphere, I have yet to go to
a game at the Dump (even finals) where i had that sort of atmosphere.

I agree. And if we can get more people there for our home games, it's only goig to benefit the club.

Yeah and what happens when in 2007 we have 8 home games there
and 3 at the G?

Wasnt the whole point of moving from Waverly to play more games
at the G?

It doesnt surprise me that most Hawk fans would bend over and take
this, its just like our supporters to go along with everything the club
does until we get to the 'golden shower taps' and '96' all over again.

Kinda understand LS's point re poor ground, loathed Moorabbin for example myself. None to fond of Vic Park either.

But what I detest about Coronial is that it's so.. so.. lifeless.

I'll go but I don't like going.

You seriously have no idea.

What does success of my football club have anything to do with my argument?

If you're a true supporter you'll go to most games no matter what stadium it's at you weak peace of crap.

Also, are you beaing serious that there is no atmosphere at the telstra dome?!?!?!?
One of the best stadium for atmosphere and that is no joke, the roof intensifies it ten fold. I remember being at the cricket during the super series when there was less 20k people and also at a fair few games of footy not involving St Kilda where there was less than 25k and it felt like there was at least double that.

Seriously you're the one here that should not make judgments on people and things before you have a clue yourself and go to more than a handful of games at the telstra dome.

There are many things I hate about the no-dome - here are some:

1: Membership does NOT entitle you to sit at ground level - that's a disgrace.

2: Buddy Franklin streaming down the wing - one bounce, two bounces, tries for a third but the ball lies in the "turf", much to Buddy's surprise.

3: Being told by security outside the ground that I'm not allowed to kick the footy!! Where the hell am I living and what have they done to our culture!!

One of the big plusses though, is when it's pelting outside, you get to see a good, skilled (um) game of footy. I love a slog in the mud, but only when I'm watching from the comfort of my loungeroom.

I have been to many games at the no-dome, finals included, where the atmosphere has been incredible but nothing compares to the "G" - that feeling you get when you walk through the park from the tram or train and arrive at the ground.....you know what I'm talking about...

Atmosphere yes in terms of noise when the stadium is full under the roof. But as Grendel put it... its just lifeless. Looking around the ground its dark and lots of cement, doesn't feel at all like the G.

We still play the majority of our games at MCG (and some at York Park this year too ;) ) , only a couple of the Dome, may as well watch them there as well, I would if I could.

Hate it. I'll go to the games, but just hate it.

It's just a big concrete bowl, football should never be played there.

Going to Box Hill games helps me feel clean again. Out in the elements, a five goal breeze, listening to the coach's address up-close - that's a real football experience.

I like the fact that you're always close to the action at Telstra Dome.

But give me the G.

Question: Are they trying to flush out the MCG members who go to all the games without paying up for the club membership? It kind of makes sense for the AFL to split all clubs' games between venues to encourage club membership. Ah, the mighty dollar.

I would watch my beloved Hawks through the clotted greasy pinholes of a well worn Arab's jockstrap if need be.

I have been to Docklands Stadium, repeat Docklands Stadium ... there is no commercialism in me! Once is enough! What I experienced of the dump on a freezing cold night was a badly designed place causing drafts (breezes) from the many entrances / exits. Those orifices caused, arguably, goal kicking legends to miss important goals, not to mention running midfielders to be astray with potshots.

The creation of the bloody place, Dock Stadium, simply put, financed by the proceeds of home divided Waverley, is one of the biggest blunders in the game's history. Shame AFL, shame!

To sell off a south / east icon stadium to accomodate the comforts of the likes of the Collins Street CBD fat arsed go to a game once in a while corporate pretenders is appalling.

It has been such a blunder .

Cant stand it either (though its ok to watch the Wallabies).

Hard to get to
Too hard to get in
Lack of decent bars
Joke of a surface
Having the roof shut in the middle of the day is absurd

If the Hawks want to get more members they need to look at playing all their home games at the MCG. Get rid of Tasmania and Telstra ASAP.

I have no problems with getting rid of Waverley. Diabolical joint, hard to get to, carpark shocking, always freezing cold.

The problem isnt that, its that the replacement was very poorly designed. Supposedly it was common knowledge at design stage that the stadium was facing the wrong direction. The AFL have alot to answer for.

Agree, regarding scraping the Telstra games (which probably will happen, if Gardnier's demands are met; regarding the MCG tenant clubs).

But the 2,500 odd Tasmanian members (the largest of any side in the league) is nothing to laugh at! I think we should continue looking into playing a game or 2 in Tasmania, but I agree with you regarding the MCG games. 9-10 HOME games are a must!

This would certainly help membership numbers now and into the future!

Most of you agree with me, which is upsetting :D

ANyway my whole point is that those Telstra Dump
games are our HOME game.

If we are scheduled away games at the Dump, and i feel like
going and see our beloved Hawks then thats my choice.

I refuse to be told were to go for our home games.

Our Home games are at the G, not the Telstra Dump.

Wait and see, when we get 8 home games for whatever reasons
the people at the club try and sell to us in 2007 and beyond you,
will all be crying and whinging about it then.

Do something about it now, show the club that we will not accept
our home games be relocated anywhere else but the G.

Do you think this would happen to other clubs that have
more pull in the league, nope.

Its always the Hawks that get bent over and have to cop
it sweet by the AFL.

This will also be a test for Jeff, I will judge him
on what he does on this issue from 2007 onwards.

Will he a.ss kiss the AFL like the rest, or stand up to
them for once and do whats for the good of the club
and more importantly , The FANS

A number of those members would stay as members. Besides how many of them take out full membership? You would gain far more money by playing those two home games at the MCG in membership terms. The Hawks do it because the state govt underwrites the games. By all means play a wizard cup game down there.

What happened to the supposedly excellent deal Hawthorn signed with the MCG? Did that not guarantee so many home games? If it didnt what was the point of the deal?
