I'm surprised we didn't go for at least one tall in there somewhere, I would feel better about things if we had one coming through the door this year, but otherwise I'm pretty cool with it. Certainly not complaining about Weller though, as much as KPP matter, the midfield matters more, much more. Has for a long time and will for a the foreseeable future so you have to keep that position deep, talented and filled with players that are versatile.

Really pleased with Weller and Blakely. Anyone taken later in the draft is always a punt, especially tall blokes. Seems like we are keen to bolster the midfield with Guys like Mundy and Crowley coming into their twilight guys and blokes who should be hitting their peak in MDB, Suban, Clancee showing indifferent form.

Our midfield runneth over.

It's hard to believe the club thinks Tabener and Apeness will be able to hold down the key forward positions post Pav. Tabener I am happy with as he has shown a bit but Apeness has only played 1 game so that would be a huge call to back him in from there. I am not saying he won't make it but rather saying he is a long way off at the moment.

Perhaps the club is going to make a huge play for a key forward from another club next season (Hogan?) We could swap 6 spare mids for him after all and still have enough left to do the job.

I'm pretty happy with the bias towards pace and skill. We had future weaknesses in our midfield that needed addressing just as much as kpp. Good draft I think

Two genuine lol moments from this draft:

- when all three of the talls bigfooty had their hearts set on slid to our pick only for us to ignore them all, and

- when the eagles drafted the reportedly safe, vanilla option in Duggan

I laughed... and then i cried

Weller was being discussed as a top 5 possibility, and we're weak for pace, run and ball use in our midfield. It's a nice fit actually. Lever and Durdin (EDIT: Goddard too!) were both there, and we left them both on the table to pick up Weller. Suspect the club couldn't believe their luck that he slipped that far and had to pull the trigger.

Looks like a real talent, with no go-home factor to worry about.

The write up by Chris25 on Weller has made me a true beliver. He looks enourmously athletic in the highlights. I could be wrong, but perhaps the plan is for Fyfe to play permanent forward in the post Pav years. For that to happen we need high quality mids in the next couple of drafts.

I think Port are the bench mark. They're all about speed and quick ball movement.

They have 1 key forward, Shulz and another tall forward in Westhoff.

Freo have Pav (and eventually Apeness) as well as Tabs not to mention arguably the best small forwards in the comp at their feet.
In what world are port the benchmark?
