Poor bloody MickyB and Dave Mundy, hey. The new boys will need to be damn good to push those two oldies out.

I'm not sure where I suggested that? Like I said, I just listed players under 25, you may find that arbitrary though and fair enough. The beauty of it is that Mundy and Barlow especially are going to be good for years to come, how prescient Fred.

Orright guys, let's think this one through. If no tall has been drafted, where do we get one........rookie draft? free agency? Next years draft?
If somebody (anybody) knows the answer then please let us all know. Would be much appreciated. Front of the line goes any answer from a man by the name of Bondy.

The club obviously has a lot of faith in Apeness, Taberner and Pearce

At least all of our draftees' highlights videos are pretty

A pessimist might suggest it shows the club has little faith in Morabito, Sherridan, De Boer, Ballard, Duffy, Suban and Sylvia.

No, it was the irony of your observation; I wasn't saying you were suggesting anything but drawing attention to the fact you listed under 25's when two of our best five mids are over 25.
The good news is they will need to be exceptional to displace those two oldies. If they do it will be outstanding.

I wasn't challenging what you said but more, emphasising the depth we appear to have.

You're right! A lot of faith in Apeness and Pearce. It may be justified on early preseason reports.

I can understand the club's faith in Apeness. It's hard to dislike a 200cm forward whose strengths are running all day and marking everything.

High hopes for Pearce too, of course.

Anyway, I'm confident Weller will be playing round 1 and Blakely is going to develop into a Fyfe-like clearance machine.

Blakely's highlights may have been very well cherry picked... but the thing that stood out for me in that highlight reel was his use by foot for an inside mid. If that's the kind of kicking we can expect then he's an utter steal. A truly handy skill set.

That and the side step. And he didn't appear as slow as I'd been led to believe.

I'd imagine the same way they delisted an under contract Tanner Smith.
It's generally seen as unethical to delist players just after the national Draft - as their potential avenue to another club has just been missed by them. I think this was done a couple of years ago so a player over east and there was a bit of backlash from it.

That and.. you'd never guess from his highlights that he was a bees dick short of 190cm, he moves too damn freely for his purported size.

You are talking KPPs. In our current 22 that really means;
Pavlich; round 1
MacPharlin; trade
Dawson; PSD
MJ; PSD

So from our current best 22 KPPs only 1 has been drafted. It is a sobering statistic. Since we drafted him we have had several 1st round KPPs drafted, none of which have been successful; Polak, Drum and Murphy come to mind immediately. The draft is a lottery, especially with talls. But regarding your question about where will we get one;

The most like for like replacements are;
Pavlich/Apeness; 1st round. Also Taberner; Rookie Draft
MacPharlin/A Pearce; 2nd round
Dawson/Silvagni; Rookie Draft
MJ/Hurley; International Rookie

Apeness, Taberner and Pearce will push for game time in 2015, and Silvagni is obviously ready to go.

I won't be reaching for the panic button just yet.

I think Port are the bench mark. They're all about speed and quick ball movement.

They have 1 key forward, Shulz and another tall forward in Westhoff.

Freo have Pav (and eventually Apeness) as well as Tabs not to mention arguably the best small forwards in the comp at their feet.
I agree - the game today is fast and it's been our small forwards who have kept us in the 4 for the past 2 yrs.

Freo had the draft West Coast needed.
Weller and blakely are a very solid pair of mids and I doubt very much that many on our board, other than the perennial moaners, would have been upset had they been our selections. I'm happy with Duggan but undecided on lamb who was a riskier pick and could just as easily be a bust as a star. This draft makes for a few good years of Duggan v Weller and Lamb v Blakely arguments

Were they recruited for Maurice Meade or a new boy band?
.

One flew over the cuckoos nest on the end looks like he's been taking hairdressing tips from ASh Smith.

Nothing our good ol Freo culture can't fix with Langdon's hair.

Looks like Bond and Lloyd heeded my plea, posted earlier today, not to squander our selections on tall defenders. Well done.:p
I hope there is a good backup plan for you guys in the rookie draft because they aren't selling TALLS in K-MART.

Your game plan held up pretty well when your talls went down this year, it seemed like you could throw the milkman in and still get away with it down back.
That said I think it taxed your team too much and led to the fade out late in the year.

And nor do they sell SPEED from the same outlet. Having said that, your midfielders historically find ways & means of getting hold of it....

I suspect we'll be having a fair old crack at FA Rance.

By adding two forwards, and with the forwards already on our list suggest a reshuffle is on the radar. Wouldnt be surprised
to see Mayne down back, and others to be used in different roles.
If Ape, Tabs, Pav all play in the one game, will need small, dangerous types around goal.
The list looks very flexible, and less predictable than before, with all the guys added knowing where the goals are.
This year proved how predictable we had become in the midfield, even Pav had to help out in the engine room, going back
In time, adding two genuine midfielders to the rotations can only help us get first use of the ball, and they can use it by hand
and foot.

And why the hell would they?

Mora is a bees dick from another knee recon and retirement, Sheridan has had 3 years to prove himself and showed very little, De Boer can't kick for shit and is dumb as, Ballard the same, Duffy has attitude issues, Suban has never reached any great heights so the ceiling is set and is quite low and Sylvia has issues that he needs to work through and isn't young so no guarantees.

Couple of quick questions: What did Hawthorn draft Luke with? What did we give up in the package that brought him over? Saying "Trade" is a bit of a cop out.

I wouldn't say De Boer is dumb, but I agree with the rest.

But if the club has limited faith in them, they shouldn't have re-signed some of them. Specifically Suban and De Boer.

Walters has shown the value of those smalls who can pull a goal out of his behind a couple of times a game.

"The Wingard Effect" I call it. Obvious talent, zero impact for 80% of the game, then wins the game from four kicks.
