We have nothing coming through. Scotland, Judd, Carrazzo, Simpson are all the wrong side of 28.

I haven't written off Lucas but if we're pinning our hopes on him alone, he better deliver something soon. Aside from him and a father son selection, we haven't hit the drafts since Robinson 4 years ago. That's a fair generation gap emerging.

Trading a few of fringers like Curnow, Duigan, Collins, Ellard, Joseph plus our Russell compo pick and our 3rd rounder (52) is our best hope of gaining further access to talent in this draft via earlier picks and will have minimal effect on our depth.
Not sure if serious o_O

Then he's bloody mad. :)

I'll be happy if we get Caddy with #11 and just as happy if we don't.
Expect to see a few Mids drafted this year.
Lets get flankers and speedy outside players like Rohan, Jetta and Lamb who can kick and win games.

These players make a mockery of those who suggest Sydney only go after hard midfielders who put their head over the ball.

Not at all a rumour, but related to the Q.Lynch rumour. I feel that Collingwood won't be able to fit all Cloke, Dawes, Lynch and Paine in the same foward line. Seeing as both Cloke and Lynch are an impossible target I say Carlton should target either Paine or Dawes. People will probably shoot be down because Dawes has had a terrible year, but just think due to his poor form he will come extremely cheap and we know when up and firing he can be very very good. Either one will be handy backup for Waite and if Waite's injuries continue well at least there is some what of a back up. I know we have Mitchell and Casboult but, and again some won't like it, but Mitchell looked to be lacking major fitness when he played in the final game V Saints and Casboult who has great hands cannot kick. I hope Carlton go after one of these blokes, thoughts? can it happen?

There's a reason Jobe won the Brownlow and it has nothing to do with him being the best player in the game - he's very good but he's not the best. It's because outside of he and Stanton they have no other A grade mids. They have quite a few high quality flankers (Zaharakis, Heppell), a couple of prospects (Melksham, etc.) but the rest of them are very ordinary footballers. Their midfield is not to be underrated, if anything it can be vastly overrated.
Stantons a flanker at best. As soon as you put a hard tag on him, he goes missing.
Essendon are one of the easiest teams to shut down IMO.

Now. Given micks penchant for a ruck forward ala brown and his love child Dawes having an indifferent year think its highly conceivable that he will make a play for him. Warnock for Dawes is my tip. Nos

It isn't 2002 all over again like you and a lot of others want to believe.
Huh? I believe we can make the 8 next year. I don't see us as waltzing into top 4 contention, however. *A lot* of things would have to go right.

we all know that but he's inferring the Essendon midfield is somewhat better placed and that we have no back up in the next few years.
I was? No, I'm suggesting our current midfield doesn't bat very deep and for us to challenge for a grand final we need to blood some genuine talent, and quickly.

Essendon are similarly placed in Watson and Stanton but drop away thereafter. Not better placed but they are actively addressing the issue by blooding Melksham, Heppell and drafting kids such as Kavanagh.

I hate to say it, but I am a little jealous right now.

I wish we had some 'trade news' to get excited about.
Not feeling particularly jealous at all.

If we wanted Goddard, we had the money to do so.
I'm sort of glad it had somewhat come down to a "Cloke or Bust" scenario..............anyway, still plenty of time, if indeed we really wanted to get involved.

Nothing really to do with Goddard specifically, just the prospect of some ready made "additions" to our line up.

We didn't have anything last year - so I guess I just miss the feeling.

Still wouldn't be surprised for Moloney to pop up.
Wouldn't have really wanted him under Ratten but think that Malthouse would be a lot harder and definitive with him.

What about that Russell guy? Hear he came second in a B&F a couple of years back.

Are Essendon cheating the salary cap again?

Think their President is the son of Ron Evans who presided over their salary cap offences.
C'mon, RK. Give them a tad more credit than that. Their team is so full of spuds that they must have plenty of room in their cap.

I was just using the line we'd get if we signed Goddard.
Correct. However, we couldn't use the paper bag line for the following reason:

When the Scum cheat the cap it's much more transparent. At least when we've done it it has taken years and some taddle tales to uncover it.

Could I please raise a suggestion of something that may make this trade week alot easier.

Organize to have two threads running together, 1 you simply post a link to the article with the information, or just write out what you 'know' or have 'heard' Short sharp posts and no discussions.

Then have a second thread where discussion can take place.

Food for thought - I have seen it on another forum from a different sport and it worked pretty well. The discussion forum flowed very well and the link thread was kept as a easy reference sticky.

Cheers

Talk about putting all your eggs in one basket, if BJ is seriously going to be getting what is reported then that is astonishing. I really don't think he's the player that will take them to that next level.

And another for jokes as much of this thread ends up as jokes. :)
