It is believed that the Blues have made Cloke a five-year, $5 million offer should he fall out with the Pies, who have so far been reluctant to re-sign their big forward on his terms.

Carlton entered the running for Cloke late last month and has met him at least once.

Cloke, who becomes a restricted free agent at the end of the season with teammate Harry O'Brien, has publicly spoken of the Dockers' offer, but has not revealed any contact from Carlton.

I'm not sure what to make of the whole Cloke situation. It has its pros and cons if we did land him.

To be honest I think 1 mil a year is paying overs. Although I think he would be a perfect fit for us.

Cloke is the exact kind of player we need but he's not worth $5m over 5 years. That's a massive, massive burden on our salary cap in the future and will result in us losing a few players.

If it was 3 years for $800,000 I'd be all over it though. Not gonna happen however.

He's going to stay at Collingwood, his management team (AKA his father) are just the worst negotiators in history.

Cloke would seem like a quick fix, but can't help but think would be a negative to our development.
Too much cash for too long, would squeeze too many others. Also a danger of a Fev type situation. He is a Magpie, so will not have the same regard for us, chance passion will dim and the everpresent injury risk.
We have Waite, dare I say it given his injury worries, "clogging" the list over a 3 year period. Waite is a favourite son, and rightly so, cant see a spot for Cloke at inflated $$$$$$. Surely if Waite doesn't come up, Mitchell, Rowe or Casboult, along with the Hammer/Kreuze combo will provide a target in our MOBILE forward line if a reasonably priced tall cannot be recruited.

I can't believe some of the negativity people are spitting out with regard to us making a play for Cloke.

Whether we like the guy or not, he is one of the premier FF's and given his age, we should be trying to bend over backwards to accommodate him and get him into our line up to straighten us up.

We should try and tailor a contract that is beneficial for us (either front loaded/back loaded whatever) because this guy fits our age profile, and plays in a position which we are in dire need of addressing.

IMO some people are counting their chickens re: Casboult, Mitchell, Rowe, McCarthy - these guys have proven nothing and are no certainty to make it, the bad thing about it all is that we have offered a big money contract to an unreliable Waite.

Only if the trade was a decent one. We wouldn't throw away a ruckman for a song because we felt guilty over taking one of their players. They would get compensatory picks in the draft for anything they lose due to free agency.

I still don't want Cloke on the money he wants. He's a good focal point but he has had one stellar season and another excellent season but still frustrates even his own fans. We need his type but not at any cost.

I wouldn't be upset with a Warnock for Cloke "swap" (purely in the interest of diplomatic relations lol) ... however, Free Agency was bought in for a reason so perhaps we should exploit it, and trade Warnock elsewhere in order to help facilitate other trades for us? (to GWS perhaps?)

We've been screwed over by other clubs in the past (see: Jacobs and Grigg), it's time for us to exploit our competitors.

He's a free agent; the AFL will give Collingwood draft picks to compensate them. Youre asking us to give away a player for free.

If Collingwood are going to lose him (for reasons other than money) or if they can't afford him they will try and take him to the trade table to suit them

How would that save us money?
If Warnock wants to leave, we can trade him for a draft pick/s or another required player, as well as getting Cloke under FA.
