i assume thats a fair bit of profit over your original transfer fee for him,so if he leaves at that price who do you want your team to sign?and who do you think they will sign?

If its true, then there would be a handy profit for the club - I believe we paid 5m Euros 2 seasons ago and that would mean a profit of 23m odd Euros (which could really help us bring in 2-3 good quality players).

Will be interesting to see if this happens or not.

We really need 2 strikers as we struggled to score goals after Ba was sold. Cisse is a great finisher but needs good supply which he wasn't getting due to the long ball and injuries to our best creative players (Cabaye, Ben Arfa, Marveaux) throughout the last season. From the guys being linked to us, I'd like to see if we can get Aubameyang (could be difficult with bigger clubs keen on him), Bony or even have a crack at Carroll again (provided he comes cheap). I think we will only get 1 striker but we definitely need 2 as we only have 3 on the books (1 is a kid, the other is rumoured to want to leave leaving only Cisse). We've been linked to Darren Bent from Villa but he's 29 and not exactly young. Plus for the 6m being talked about, I think we could do better.

If Cabaye goes, I think our current centre mids of Sissoko, Anita and Tiote are still very capable but may lack that playmaker ability of Cabaye so we'd probably need to bring another CM in. Sissoko is a box to box mid, Tiote a defensive mid and Anita is a bit of both so a more pure centre attacking mid/creative type would be ideal.

Would be very happy if we got in 2 strikers, 1 CB (Douglas would be my preference) and another CM to replace Cabaye. We could use another winger too but given how tight our owner is, can see maybe only 1-2 players coming in sadly.

Maybe the fact that you were fighting for relegation for a bit of the season will hopefully get him to loosen the strings a bit higher you finish more money you reap and a European place will be a good profit so for your sake I hope he buys a few,any chance you will get ba back since Chelsea are after cavani?

We can only hope but given we just appointed Joe Kinnear as director of football, I'm not exactly feeling optimistic for the future haha. Think he is there to destablise Pardew's position...

I'd have Ba back if he was interested in returning - the only issue is him and Cisse can't seem to play upfront with each other and 1 normally needs to play wide.

That would be stupid unless Pardew is on big coin I remember him signing a long contract but not sure for how much but like I said your a big team imo to big to be fighting for relegation would make sense to spend a bit more this window then hopefully not stress about the drop then he would get massive return on his investment, your owner sounds like arsene probably still has the first dollar he ever made

JFK ... life is always interesting on Geordie Shore ... he should take a bite of that Yohan Kebab.

Joe Kinnear shambolic interview
Yet that proved the least of the jaw-dropping moments of Kinnear's interview. During his conversation with Andy Goldstein and fellow former Wimbledon manager Bobby Gould, the 66-year-old claimed responsibility for signing Tim Krul [a goalkeeper recruited by Graeme Souness] as well as James Perch [bought by Chris Hughton], said "Derek Llambezee [Derek Llambias, Newcastle's managing director] had resigned as director of football [a position he has never held]and talked about Shola Amenobee, Yohan Kebab and Hatem Ben Afre rather than Shola Ameobi, Yohan Cabaye and Hatem Ben Arfa.
Joe Kinnear shambolic interview

Genuinely cannot believe that they've gone for Kinnear the ****ing plonker.

Anyone else see this from Shearer. Quality

"While other clubs are all plotting and planning for next season, Newcastle have a manager who has been totally undermined,"
"People are laughing at the football club I support. And that sickens me."
"It's no way to treat a man who 12 months ago was enjoying the fact he had been voted Manager of the Year for guiding Newcastle to fifth place in the Premier League," Shearer said.
"His silence on the appointment of Kinnear himself over recent days said it all. But what could he say?
"He is in such an intolerable position. He can't come out and slaughter his employers but at the same time he can't agree with a situation which no manager would find comfortable.
"I ask one question of Joe Kinnear: Would you stand for it, if you were manager?
"Someone else coming out in the national media announcing they are the Director of Football before even the club have made it official.
"Someone else basically taking control of who comes in and who goes out."
"As for that announcement, what are the players to think when he can't even get their names right," Shearer added. "It's all a PR disaster."
He added: "Over the last few days he has banged on about how Newcastle would never have gone down had he not had his health problems and stayed on in the job to the end of the 2008-09 season.
"The implication being that it was first (caretaker) Chris Hughton and then my fault for the club being relegated.
"I had eight games as manager at the end of the season, won one, drew two and lost the rest. So, yes, I take my share of responsibility.
"But Kinnear had 19 league games in charge that season and won just four, taking 20 points.
"Chris Hughton could not arrest the slide in his brief role as caretaker, and nor could I.
"Given the downtrodden, disjointed group of players I took on, it would have been something special if I had.
"So it's about time Kinnear took some responsibility for what happened as well. It was a real eye-opener when I did take charge for those final games. The team wasn't just a mess, the club was a mess."

Haha - Mike Ashley (our owner) didn't take too kindly to those words either.

He's refurbishing 'Shearer's Bar' (a bar at St James' Park named in honour of Big Al) and renaming it 'Nine'. Excessive reaction much?

I really have no confidence or optimism for the coming season - this is exactly the kind of BS we had in our relegation year...

It looks like the 'refurbishment' of Shearer's Bar started a few hours before the comments. Hmmm, I'm not sure if I believe that.

"Club officials said work began on Wednesday, hours before Shearer's caustic comments were published."
http://au.sports.yahoo.com/football...wcastle-deny-shearer-spat-after-renaming-bar/

p.s. don't ask me why I was looking at Yahoo sports. I know, like we all know, Yahoo does suck donkey balls

Haha, yeah - I'm not sure who the PR folk at Newcastle are but they seem to not be doing a good job of things at the moment (and all of this is basically within 1 week!).
  • Joe Kinnear coming out and telling everyone he was the new director of football BEFORE any official appointment by the club.
  • Kinnear then mentioning that 'Lambeezee' (Llambias) had resigned as managing director BEFORE any official statement by the club.
  • This refurbishment debacle...
  • Kinnear mispronouncing player names and then going on to say the fans are "stupid".
  • Countless calls by media, former players and people associated with the club saying the decision to appoint Kinnear was bewildering/strange.
Apparently there will be a fan forum tonight in Newcastle with a team from the club there to answer questions from fans. Hopefully we can get some clarity/understanding but something tells me we will get non committal answers and will leave more questions than answers haha.

With Gus Poyet just sacked by Brighton, a lot of rumours Mike Ashley wants to replace Pardew with him. Poyet is a talented young manager but I've never really liked him as a person. With lots of speculation that Kinnear was appointed to force Pardew out (so to minimise his pay out), will be interesting to see if this happens.

Clubs are already making signings and we are still trying to figure out how the new changes will impact the day to day running of the club. Not an ideal start to the new season sadly

Yes, it is very disconcerting that other clubs have been making signings already and we’ve still got our dacks around our ankles about the football department.
That being said, NUFC scouting and recruitment has been excellent in the recent years, so I’m not too worried about that.

I read a report about the fans meeting. Motion passed to Ashley to resign. Anger about Kinnear. He didn’t front. Respect from the fans for the poor bastard who did front up.

The communication/PR you pointed out has been dire. Kinnear’s interviews have made him a laughing stock, now him lashing out at people for criticising his interview performance is a bit beyond the pale. Come on, man up and admit you made a mistake and people will respect you for it.
That being said, I am calling Cabyae, Kebab for the rest of the season now.

Read earlier today that Pardew is on holiday still and Kinnear is about to go on his (he's been out of the game for 5 years!). Not encouraging stuff especially with pre season starting in a week and other clubs already trying to do their transfers early so new players can settle in at their new clubs.

On some more positive notes, our preseason fixtures have been released:

Tuesday, July 16 - Motherwell away (kick-off 7pm)
Saturday, July 20 - Rio Ave away (kick-off 6pm)
Tuesday, July 23 - Pacos de Ferreira (kick-off TBC)
Sunday, July 28 - Blackpool away (kick-off 3pm)
Tuesday, July 30 - St. Mirren away (kick-off 7.30pm)
Saturday, August 10 - SC Braga home (kick-off 6pm)

As well as there being some rumours we have made a 12m bid for Wilfried Bony (31 goals in 30 appearances in the Dutch league). Highly rated young forward but will be interesting to see if we are genuine chances of getting him.

Ben Arfa is apparently trying to get a new contract so that is another positive for the club.

12m bid for Wilfried Bony sounds like a lot. I can't recall a big by NUFC that's been that large in a while.
I don't know Bony, but hopefully a solid forward, which we need

Bony I believe is one the most highly rated young forwards in Europe at the moment - think he actually scored the third most goals behind Messi and Ronaldo (but obviously the Dutch league isn't as strong as La Liga). He's meant to be big, fast and strong which should give him the physical attributes to suit the PL. Hopefully Tiote can get in his ear and tell him to come to us haha.

In some good news young guns Dummett, Richardson and Newton (all reserve players) signed new extensions to their contracts but Abeid and Amalfitano are up for sale.

If anyone has a spare $267m, word is Mike Ashley will sell the club if that amount is put up.

Hmm, I'm the only one, feeling a little bit of 'Shades of Afonso Alves' here? :)

Haha, mate - Alfonso Alves was great value for the smoggies! Loved watching him play for the boro ;)

On Bony though, that's the thing - he's got a ridiculous record and is young BUT he is unproven in a stronger league. The big question is can he improve and can he cut it at a higher level? Only time would tell I guess.

I also saw we had a 15m bid for Aubameyang rejected by St Etienne - interesting to so see if we raise our bid or not. Can't see both him and Bony (or Gignac) all coming - IMO we will get 1 expensive striker and if we're lucky, 1 cheapie

We seem to be leading the race for both Darren Bent and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang at the moment - could happily live with both of those 2 joining!

Danny Simpson has joined QPR on a free transfer and new PSG manager Laurent Blanc is keen to get Cabaye.

Yeah, but he under-performed like crazy and cost them a relegation. But that's not a bad thing. Always happy to see Boro or Black Cast relegated.

I wonder if he rejected himself because he didn't want to called Aboomerrang by Kinner

Haha yeah, that's why Alves was a gun - was a huge (and expensive) spud.

Pierre Emerick Aubameyang - would love to see Kinnear try and pronounce that!

Had a laugh the other day when I read he called Georgi Kinkladze 'Kinky Lady' - in comparison, Kebab got off fairly easily lol

Some interesting rumours over the weekend.

  • Apparently we want to make a double swoop for Aubameyang and his team mate (CB Prodigy) Kurt Zouma for 25m
  • Darren Bent is keen to come here but only if Pardew is given assurances he will be manager (apparently have a good relationship from their Charlton days).
  • Leroy Fer (Dutch CM) being linked with a move to us.
  • Simon Kjaer (Danish CB from Wolfsburg) is another linked player.
Players linked with leaving:
  • Perch to Leicester for $700k (not sure about that, handy squad player).
  • Ameobi to Sheffield Wednesday
  • Tiote and Cabaye linked with moves away - Cabaye maybe for 20-25m pounds with PSG keen.

Rumoured new home shirt

  • Perchino confirmed. Not a great loss, but still, would like to see him stay and improve
  • I see your irony now re Alves :). yes, was good to see him at the Somgies
  • I really really really (did I say really yet?) hate that Wonga is our sponsor. I've seen the new away kit (posted by The Dilsh on his twitter a while ago). It looks horrible. Not to mention could cause greif with players
  • Do not want Bent. Couldn't get a game at Villa. Yeah, I know, Villa only played one up front and had to compete with Benteke who is a gun. But still, I don't really rate Bent, not for the asking price.
  • I heard about the two for 1 offer from Nenette. They turned it down. They want 19m alone for Boomerang.
And the great new is JK is going on Holiday next week. ****ing Fantastic. Just what we need our football director to do. Go on holidays in the first week of transfer period. F-ing idiot.

Agreed, sad to hear about Perchino leaving - especially for only $700k which is less than what we bough him for. I guess coming up to the end of his contract in 12 months its better to cash in now rather than later.

Yep, not too keen on Wonga either but at least they returned the stadium to St James' Park (as opposed to the lame Sports Direct Arena').

I would only take Bent if it was a last option otherwise, I agree he's too old (29) and probably past it. We should be getting someone younger really.

The latest on Boomerang (love the nickname haha) is that 18m and Obertan might get the deal done apparently. Could probably live with that as we still have Gouffran, Marveaux, Jonas and Ben arfa for wing options.

Yeah, I don't think Obertan is a big loss. He doesn't play too much and we've got cover with Gouffran and Marveaux.

Knock it down to 15-16m with Obertan and its a deal!

If reports this morning are to be believed. We've been given the green light for Bent and Kinnear has just returned from holiday... There's lots of talk of Boomerang now going to Dortmund - looks like we may have missed the boat yet again haha.
