I haven't gotten to many games this season, I've been stuck working weekends so I've only made it to a couple of midweek matches since Christmas. I've not met or spoken to anyone who wants Pardew to stay - maybe just a couple of SMB's! I defended him more than most however I'm now firmly on the sack bandwagon as well. It's not like Ashley can't afford the payout.

I think we will spend more this summer, we will have to if we want to avoid relegation as we will lose a few both good and bad - Debuchy, Remy and Ameobi at the very least probably won't be here next season. Abeid has had a good season in Greece so he will be a handy recall and I still have hopes for Vuckic (although he seems to have gone backwards this season while at Rotheram), but we will need to sign a few if we're going to stay up.

Yeah I was the same as you, thought he was unlucky last season with a squad decimated by injuries but this season, particularly 2014, it's just been excuse after excuse. His conduct has gotten more embarrassing which doesn't paint the club in a nice colour either!

I really hope we spend. I think a lot of the younger players have been told they won't be around next season but Abeid hopefully will get a chance in preseason to show his talents. He seems to have developed quite well with Panathinaikos this season.

If reports in France are to be believed, we are keen on St Etienne manager Christophe Galtier.

Yeah I reckon we might spend (at least with JFK gone, there is a chance of some deals being done).

Could be quite a few outgoing though!

  • Remy (probably will look for a club with more ambition).
  • De Jong (no goals, can't see the club meeting the agreed fee).
  • Shola (contract expired)
  • Gosling (contract expired)
  • Gutierrez (set to return from loan but seemingly on the outer).
  • Obertan, Marveaux and Ben Arfa 'apparently' being given early holiday leave and out of favour.
  • Newton, Tavernier, Vuckic, Bigi and a few other young players.
Then you have players like Debuchy and Krul attracting attention from bigger clubs...

Do you think you guys will hang on to the likes of Debuchy & Tiote? I would be pretty happy if we managed to sign either of them. Quality footballers. Loved Tiote's double don't argue in last night's game :)

Debuchy is getting a lot of interest apparently - reckon he will be hoping to get to PSG though and reunite with Cabaye (best mates). Apparently PSG would like to sign more foreign based French players and bring them back to Ligue 1 so someone like Debuchy (similar to Cabaye) fits the mould perfectly.

Tiote I'd be more confident in holding onto. Has never come out and said he wants to leave and has been captain a few times this season when Colo was out and Cabaye tried to force a move back in August.

With there being reports of $60m to spend this window, they'd be 2 players I'd dearly love to hold onto :)

With all due respect I don't see Newcastle splurging massively this window given their track record, 60m seems a bit excessive and I think they'd be looking at substantially less than that. Mind you it is Mike Ashley, so anything and everything could happen.

To be honest, I have to agree. As much as I'd love to see some much needed investment (surely there are funds available given we haven't bought a player for 2 consecutive windows and sold a few including Cabaye in that time). We might get a few free transfers, loans and perhaps a few cheap players in but I can't see any huge outlays being made. It's pretty sobering when your club can boast having the third highest average attendances but apparently can't compete with the likes of Southampton and their resources :(

Interestingly, the editor for the Telegraph (who wrote in an article of a $60m war chest being available to spend) was contacted by club officials and told to refute his statement and that the budget would be 'undisclosed'...

#nufc have contacted me to dispute the fact they have pledged to spend £60m this summer. Happy to pass this info on. Budget is undisclosed

Gosling seems the first out the door (not a surprise) with him set to join Bournemouth in the Championship next season. Sad that he was hampered so much by injuries in his time with us. Was pretty highly rated at Everton when we got him. Only 24 apps in 4 years though. Hopefully opens the door for Abeid next season to feature in the first team after his good season at Paok.

Edited for accuracy :)

Pardew to remain in charge and no serious tilt at the cups either next season. Love the ambition and direction

"The board stated that Alan Pardew will remain the club’s manager. The board stated that incorrect media reports which claimed Newcastle United had contacted other individuals about the manager position were in the hands of the club’s legal team.”

“The board outlined research into Premier League clubs in relation to domestic cup competition in the last five years, with Swansea the only club outside the traditional six to win a domestic cup and not be relegated in the same season (Wigan and Birmingham both relegated).”

How lucky Atletico are to have a manager who believes and has a bit of ambition!

maybe its the black and white glasses but I reckon Cabella looks good in the black and white stripes!

Saw this on a fan page - hope to get him in!

Goodbye Mackem Slayer!!!

Ameobi, whose younger brother Sammy remains on the books, made 397 senior appearances, 178 of them as a substitute, and scored 79 goals. He has made more appearances as a substitute than any player in Premier League history.

He was not always a favourite with the club’s fans, but was appreciated by successive managers, none more so than current incumbent Alan Pardew.

Pardew said: “Such loyalty and commitment in the modern game is rare and Shola was not just a great player on the pitch, but a key figure off it too. He is a leader of men, a great role model for our younger players and I wish him well for the remainder of his career.”

Ameobi is one nine men leaving the club along with loan pair Loic Remy and Luuk de Jong, midfielders Dan Gosling and Conor Newton, who have joined Bournemouth and Rotherham respectively, and youngsters Michael Richardson, Steven Logan, Brandon Miele and Jonathan Mitchell.

First of many to come hopefully (though I'd be very surprised if we got more than 3 more in).

Like the cut of his jib so to speak. Looks a very creative and pacy striker. Might be a good third choice coming off the bench to try and make an impact. Was pretty highly rated too and had a few big clubs keen on him too apparently. Hopefully Pardew doesn't ruin him!

You going to the pre season tour in NZ NUFC Tiger ?

Hoping to buddy but money is a bit tight at the moment - might be touch and go. I've started my passport application and have been checking flights/accommodation prices. Quite a few of the Aussie Toon army are making the trek so I'll hopefullybe joining them! :D

Hope you can get across mate!

Saw a Newcastle 13/14 kit on sale for $40 yesterday, thought of picking it up but then assumed you'd probably already had one haha

Haha so do I mate! My best mate is actually a West Ham fan too and they are also participating in the same tournament (with Sydney FC and the Phoenix) so we desperately want to go and be a part of it!

Thanks for the tip Jatz on the shirts, I do infact have a 13/14 shirt (complete with my name on the back) which is the pride of my wardrobe at least until our new home kit is unveiled! :D

Second signing through the door (boy oh boy wowee - no permanent signings for the better part of 18 months and suddenly we have 2 within a week!).

This time, it's Mr Colback who has decided to leave the unwashed and trade in those disgusting red and white stripes for the infinitely better black and white kit of the North East! A solid addition even if it will take some time to rid him of the smell of Scumberland. He's a true toon lad who turned down more money to sign for his boyhood team.

P.S the tears from Scumberland are delicious!!!!

“For him to then leave the club that has supported him throughout his formative years in such a manner, with no chance for Sunderland to recover any of the significant investment that it has made in him as a player, has left a bitter taste.”
