Welcome to the sans-striker Toon Army?

Least Joey is (reportedly) back. Still need a striker and a left back. Possibly a right-back too. At this stage we're going to play some sort of 4-6-0 with all the bloody midfielders we have.

And if I ever see James f***ing Perch in a Newcastle shirt again...

Enrique gone... Our clubs owner is a fat useless pig, chances are we are gone.

I still find it remarkable how he's still in charge. Keeps finding ways to **** everything up for your lot.

Overall, it's actually a very good strategy. The players we've lost are the ones on huge wages. Enrique on reported 50kGBP/week, same with Nolan, Barton on 75kGBP/week. Yes, Wor Andy wasn't but 35mil for him?! And we have replaced them with something resembling quality, just a question of it gelling.

I get the vibe that he's trying to get the wage bill down in order to prep it so he can try to sell the club again, as well as qualify for the financial fair play (and thus possibly sneak a Europa League spot because of a Chelsea/Man City rules breach with UEFA).

That said, he's treated them like dirt. Joey I kind of get due to the past issues with Willie McKay, but the others didn't deserve that. Especially Andy - reported to say he didn't want to leave, the owners forced him to go for the cash. Wouldn't be surprised if he comes back once Ashley f***s off.

Find it incredible they haven't found a way to f*** off Xisco yet, by all reports on around 40kGBP a week and hasn't played for the club in 2 years

Are you allowed to play Europa league if you're in the Championship?

Hope the French foreign legion gels quickly, otherwise we are in strife.
Well Birmingham are, aren't they?

I've got hopes. I think the striker signing woes are a bigger problem - and while I love Shola as much as the next guy, he's really not a first-choice striker.

I'm thinking Pardew's going to have to go for a 4-5-1 - who the hell else could you seriously pair with Ba?

I actually like the thoughts of a 4-4-1-1 type formation, with Ba up front and Lovenkrands as the 2nd striker/mid sitting just behind Ba.

The question has to be asked though, what happens if Ba gets injured, or if he gets suspended, who is his backup then?

It's the thinnest I've seen us in the forward position in my time following the team, even when we have been in the championship/lower leagues.

And with Fat arse still not willing to spend too much, I can't see us even fixing the problem in the January TW, which means we will have to rely on draws against the better sides, and wins at home against the lesser teams just to survive.

I thought the intensity last night was great though, I hope Barton doesn't leave, he sets a bloody good example, at least in his attack on the ball (and the opposition sometimes).:)

Sunderland away next week, they looked terrible for a half, and pretty good for the second half, so I'd almost be happy with a draw again.

Surely we can take 5under1and?

But yeah, the striker shortage is bad indeed. Lov and Shola aren't good enough, and while Ba is, he's also injury prone.
That said, Modibo Maiga might be on the way - refused to play for Sochaux and has submitted a transfer request following our 7mil bid.

My only problem with players that o that sort of thing is that you have to wonder how level headed they are... I we get him and he proves to be successful, is he gonna do the same thing to us in a couple of seasons? I guess for the short term that ain't an issue...

I'm actually a fan of Ashley. He has come in with a vision and he is sticking to his vision.

We might not be contenders but I can't see us going down with this squad and the future is bright because we're stacking up on young talent.

The only issue is when we are stable financially whether we will have a crack at the top 4.

stacking up on young talent in the EPL is not what it is in the AFL.

look at arsenal.. they stack up on young talent.. that young talent ends up leaving..

And they're still consistently finishing in the top 4.

On a different note, how impressive was Obertan when he came on.

Hopefully he'll start against the scum.

We looked diabolical going forward against Arsenal, our squad is also very thin and should we get any form of injury we are in strife. We have no LB, Ryan Taylor is not premiership standard, tbh I'm totally annoyed with the crap Mike Ashley has dished up and also that puppet Alan Pardew who says far to much in the media which in most cases is scripted by fat mikes advisors.

The club is now a boring sub par premiership organization who will be battling relegation for years to come, our greatest highlights will come from 3rd rd Carling Cup appearances and 16th league finishes! Here's hoping a middle eastern oil magnate buys out the place else were faaaarked.

Cheer up Steve Bruce
Oh what can it mean?
To a sad mackem bastard
And a SHIT FOOTBALL TEAM

Nile Ranger is a twat.

Great peformance for 55min tonight, outlr back 4 is really rock solid. Taylor is finally looking like the footballer he has always promised to be and Colo is the perfect fit as captain. I love Cabaye in the CM position, he works hard both ways and distributes really well, he will improve so much as the season moves on. Best was excellent and Ba was dangerous when he came on and with the right service is a capable 15 goal a season CF.

Seems as though Pieters will be doing his medical Monday from all reports and Maiga is almost a done deal to, we look to have the makings of a really solid squad and 7th position should be our goal with possible Europe. Here's hoping Ben Arfa plays regularly and injuries don't kill us.

Of course I've changed my tune, being a toon supporter isn't that what we do best? Facts are though with the squad we have we will not be able to sustain form due to lack of depth, the strain and league and cup football will kill us and god help our club should we sustain injuries!

Youre only as good as your last performance and based on that we don't need Joey, I think Cabaye is an upgraded silkier version of Joey less the daft brain, this guy by seasons end could be in the top echelon of PL midfielders and is the perfect partner for Tiote. Certainly need a fullback and new reports suggest Italian international Davide Santon is on his way! Super talent this kid and would be a steal at the 5mill mark.

A good win to add to a great start to the season.

And more good news;

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...le-agree-deal-Inter-Milans-Davide-Santon.html

Newcastle United have agreed a £5million deal for Inter Milan full-back Davide Santon.
Manager Alan Pardew has turned to the 20-year-old Italy international after hitting a snag in negotiations over PSV Eindhoven defender Erik Pieters.

Santon can play either side and has progressed through the ranks at Inter.

Finally, Fat boy has opened his wallet.
