In some really good news - De Jong and Obertan both look like they are fit again and could make the squad for the game at Hull this weekend. Abeid (who missed out on being selected for Algeria at the ACoN) and Gutierrez both played in a friendly (with De Jong and Obertan) so we could potentially have 4 players to help flesh out the squad.

In before Carver says their return are 'just like new signings'! :D

Even better news:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/31045809

Crystal Palace have confirmed the signings of Jordon Mutch and Shola Ameobi.

Former Newcastle forward Ameobi joins as a free agent on a deal until the end of the season, having left Turkish side Gaziantep in December.

The 33-year-old forward scored 53 league goals during his time on Tyneside.
I nearly spat out my coffee on the tram this morning when I read this - haha

Haha saw that when I checked my phone as I woke this morning.

Honestly, it's weird that Pardew wouldn't offer him a new deal with us but 6 odd months later, is happy to sign him for Palace.

Ah well, good luck to him! Hopefully he continues scoring against the Mackems! :D

Supposedly Chucky Ferreyra will be given a clean slate under Carver. Maybe we'll finally see him in action?

Obertan also likely to be back for the Hull game this weekend with Raylor, De Jong and Abeid not far off. Dummett to apparently miss through injury (Williamson...).

Wouldn't mind seeing Aussie Curtis Good given a chance - surely can't be any worse than what we have.

Probably further underlines the gap between what the 'head coach' and Cashley/Charnley want!

Yeah, honestly I have doubts that any players or managers of any repute will want to come to us while this model is in place. A coach who can get sacked without having any real say in the players he has to choose from is pretty illogical!

Not a bad looking team - hopefully we can make it a double and follow on from the Socceroos triumph! An ex Toon player with the winner - good omen perhaps... ;)

Subs: Alnwick, Santon, Abeid, Obertan, Gouffran, Riviere, Cisse

I watched the first 25 mins and thought wow this is the lowest standard of football I've seen in the PL all season so..... I went to asleep! I actually was expecting to wake up to a 1-0 loss but was super chuffed we won and actually won well.

One has to wonder what the score would have been if we didn't have Krul in goal? I watched the replay and man if Alnwick had of played we would have been down 2-0 before the break. Krul would HAVE to be the best goalie in the PL, De Gea and Hart aren't qualified to tie his shoe laces.

Hull were very dominant in the first 35 or so minutes, was pretty worried myself.

Yeah, I think the scoreline was a bit flattering actually - Hull were pretty unlucky with a few of their chances (coupled with some good saves by Krul). They had one basically cleared off the line, another where they probably should have scored and the 'hand of god' moment from Elmo was luckily picked up by the ref (I thought it was a goal at first). Colo also had a freak clearance that went straight up...and almost blew into the goal (thankfully Anita was there to clear).

Cabella's goal came from a mistake (though he did a bit of work to finish the goal), Sammy's was a belter (though probably more of an opportunistic strike) and Gouff's took a fairly heavy deflection (though their team basically backed off and let him stroll from just inside their half to the box and unleash the shot).

Really impressed with Haidara (hopefully doesn't lose his spot when Dummett returns this week) who won almost all his challenges/tackles and looked dangerous going forward (also helped with Sammy's goal by pulling a defender from him) and Cabella's games (needs to start from now on - would be good to see him tear Palace apart and show Pardew just what he can do).

Also thought Anita was good too (would have him ahead of Tiote on form at the moment but probably a fit Abeid over both).

Also, not sure if true but saw something on facebook - apparently Santon may be loaned to Inter (with a view to buy). I like Santon but we've got Haidara, Dummett and even Raylor who can play there. IF the money were to go to a CB, I could probably live with that.

Reckon it will be a case of sell with no replacement though...

Rumours flying around we could loan Rangers up to 5 players (Vuckic, Mbabu, Streete, Bigirimana and Ferguson) to try and help them win promotion.

Only Vuckic would be a potential loss to the squad IMO (only one who has appeared in the first team this season I believe) but Ferguson can play LB (and given we've loaned Santon, he would have been handy to keep around for cover - given Dummett will also need to act as cover at CB).

Probably no massive losses there, and if they're going to get game time elsewhere, it may help to either give them confidence to contribute to us, or drive up their sale price later lol.

Colback could play LB at a stretch too I guess. Hopefully Curtis comes 'Good' and we can get him into the team at some stage!

Yeah, think we're fine with Haidara, Dummett and Raylor all options at LB (plus Colback and Anita can also fill in there if need be). It's just annoying that the club presumably isn't getting anything out of these loans to Rangers (I doubt they'd be paying wages or a fee). Oh well, if they help Rangers get promoted and that in turn leads to Ashley selling up shop and leaving, then all the better.

With Streete going out on loan, Yanga sold and Taylor out for the season, that only leaves Colo and Williamson as proper CBs (with Dummett able to play there also). Hopefully Curtis can get fit and push himself into the frame. I'd love to at least see him play instead of Williamson haha.

Saw this on a Toon page - they looked pumped to be farmed out to Rangers.

Some speculation that we may also send a coach up there to manage the team. Looks like they are our feeder team now...

Would be interesting to see how the Scottish FA react to this.
