Much like last season, I feel our season ended when the window shut and yet again, we didn't sign anyone. Heck, we didn't even appoint a new manager!

Players have no motivation, Carver's clueless and all the while Cashley gets his money. Sad times. :(
Couldn't agree with this more.

lol to make things worse now Colback is going to miss the next two games. We're going to be stuck with Anita. He's so bad.
Actually kinda glad I am not going to see NUFC when I am in the UK in a couple of weeks. I am going to Palace v QPR that weekend, I can go and cheer Pards and Shola instead haha

Can also see Jedinak too mate!

Well Cashley wanted a top 10 finish. Good luck with getting that with this kind of rubbish and our paper thin squad!

Can only hope Abeid, Armstrong and Raylor are given runs in the second half. Nothing to play for here so give the youngsters a run and let Raylor get some minutes under his belt!

I'd give Riviere a crack, we need to get a little bit of ROI on him eventually...

Irrespective, I won't be watching! Bed time for me, too tired and this is simply not worth being tired for ;)

Forgot about Riviere! Yes, give him a go with someone up front with him (maybe take off the anonymous Gouffran for him).

Going to do the same mate. No point sticking up for more tripe! :D

Does anyone want my take on it? I went to bed after the penalty! What's the point? I can feel another walk out coming, things are getting pretty bad.

Gonna search around for JC's presser, let's see what this idiot has to say.

Wish I had done the same! I had a feeling about a 5-0 loss during the week, should have put money on the correct score.

Anyone else falling out of love with of this club? Dont post here often but do like to read fellow mag supporters thoughts. For the last 20 years I have watched every game I could, early kickoffs, late kickoffs and there have been some amazing times, beating Leeds 4-3 to go top of the league at Christmas, winning at the San Siro to advance to the second round of the Champions League, Cup finals etc. But what is the point now. We cant get attached to our players as they will be sold off as soon as a profitable bid comes in, like 15 other clubs we will never contend for a title, despite the previous point we dont take the cup comps seriously, we exist to make money for the owner who bought the club and says he paid off our debts. Sorry when you purchase the club you inherit the debt. Dont blame your poor research of the clubs books on anyone but yourself. I truly despise him. Why we got rid of Nolen, a bloke who has pride in the shirt I will never know. The 11 out there last Saturday couldnt give a shit

You're not the only one mate. I think we're all feeling like banging our heads against the wall at the way the great club of ours is being dragged through the mud.

The sad thing for me after that inept 5-0 loss is that I'm not even that bothered to be honest. Heavy defeats has been something that we've had lots of in recent years and it's just part of supporting the club I guess. There was a time when a loss like that would hurt but that was surely in the past now. I'm just over it and accept it. Read in an article that the contrast between City and us was startling. They are the champions and want to be better still. Newcastle are just treading water and happy to wallow in mediocrity.

The players don't care anymore - why should they? The club don't think its important enough to invest in the team, to sell them a vision of where they want the club to be. The club couldn't even get a new manager in - this is meant to be a professional sporting organisation FFS! We're in the top 20 in the world of football for revenue generation and can boast a huge fanbase but there is a deafening silence of PR from the club who time and time again just prove they are happy to sit back and take the money. Heck, the players know the club would sell them if a decent offer came along. If you're not in line with their regime, then you're surplus to requirements. Barton, Nolan, Keegan, Hughton, the list goes on.

As sad as it is, change won't happen until fans start mass boycotting games. The more and more fans go to games, the longer this will be dragged out. Some fans say 'support the team, not the regime' and that's fine but don't go to games where your money is going to the club. Make Ashley be accountable. All his Sports Direct advertising is going to look great during a live broadcast in an empty stadium!

Remember what Keegan said back at the time of when Hughton was sacked? It still rings true!

"And the best day will come when someone buys it from him and runs Newcastle like that club should be run. The club can never go anywhere under Mike Ashley and Derek Llambias – I promise you that."

Carver apologised for the loss. It just fell on deaf ears though. Sick of the excuses. Villa up next at home, they're struggling and out of sorts but I can see them beating us to be honest.

Read this on an article dissecting the loss:
"Since taking over from Alan Pardew Carver has been knocked out the FA Cup by the Premier League’s worst team, lost at home to Southampton and dropped points against Burnley, Stoke and Crystal Palace."

Gods help us if he is given the role permanently!

The only positives from the game were Abeid coming on (for the woefuL Anita) and Raylor making his return from injury. Raylor might get called into action as Janmaat (who he subbed on for) apparently limped off.

Abeid should be starting but with Colback to miss 2 games with suspension (Villa and Man Utd), Anita might get a reprieve. Gouffran was useless. Worst though was Carver waiting for the 86th minute to haul him off for Obertan.

here here. I shed tears when newcastle got relegated both at the time and at work next the day but the next season in the championship was one of my favourite, winning and a real likeable team that had a crack each week. Now its spend as little as possible and stay up, buy players low, sell high. Who can get behind that? I miss Shearer, Newcastle Brown Ale on the shirts ( not some predatory loan sharks), nolberto solano, being happy to stay up till 11pm (perth time!!!) to watc, a rocking SJP. Where's the initiative?

Newcastle remind me so much of Richmond, a club that needs to be taken by the scruff of the neck and shown the way to success, only think is Richmond are 100 times closer than Newcastle. Listen it's hard to understand a Geordie, when I was there you know it's almost impossible not to support Newcastle hence why the walkouts are going to be hard. The football club is the lifeblood of Tyneside and most of the supporters are simply lower to middle class hard working people, they work in factories, grocery stores, labouring and trades, sometimes there only release is to have a pint and watch the lads kick around on a Saturday afternoon.

As it stands there is absolutely no end in sight, MA will not sell the club as commercially it is to valuable to him and he certainly won't change a business model that has turned him into one of the very richest people in the world, the guy is stead fastly strict in his approach to running a business.

Our only ray of hope is with the new TV rights MA actually invests in the club ON FIELD, his pockets are deep enough to fork out cash to challenge the top 6 EVERY SEASON and perhaps he will see the value in the club progressing to Europe although as most already know that vision will be saved for Rangers as it will cost next to nothing to put together a squad capable to reach Europe from the SPL.

This offseason will speak volumes of the long term plan MA has for the club, with the new TV rights implemented and the growth commercially the club has seen it's as good time as ever to see if he legitimately wants to progress us from top 10 to top 6 and Europe. As I said earlier in posts MA is hated today but he could, at the click of his fingers win every Geordie over by recruiting a top line manager ( Galtier, Garde) and investing in REAL talent for the squad. A little presser come the seasons end from Lee Charnley.... I meant Graham Carr, I'm getting my people wrong (who's a Geordie favourite) outlining our recruitment vision would be ideal, a little bit of good PR and some real investment in players and a charismatic manager and we are on track, otherwise it's trips to Bournemouth and Millwall on the horizon.

Yeah, I can still remember that day we got relegated too. Going 1-0 down to an own goal and then the growing sense of doom and dread as the player's barely broke a sweat as the relegation trap door loomed closer and closer. By the end of the game, I wasn't even that upset, I was just numb - we'd been in decline for so long that season and it had been a slow and agonising death.

The funny thing is, the Championship was such an enjoyable season - we were winning regularly and it just seemed fun again. We'd cut the deadwood who were happy to pick up a big wage but not overly fussed to try and keep us up and kept a squad of players that either wanted to get us back up or that no one wanted to buy. Either way, Hughton was able to forge the broken shards of the team into a formidable outfit and lead us to the title and promotion at a canter. That team had spirit and backbone. Something that we sorely lack now.

You watch our home games now and the stadium is a shadow of itself. Those moments when the crowd was roaring, the stadium looked like it was in danger of collapsing from excessive shaking and the black and white players stormed forward on the pitch in relentless waves at a battered opposition team are gone now. The soul of the club has been sucked out of the joint and we're all the poorer for it.

I would almost welcome relegation again if it meant the back of Mike Ashley. Relegation would lower the club's value and perhaps make it more affordable to prospective buyers. The club is in a better financial state than it was the last time we went down and even a cold hearted businessman like Ashley would surely do enough to keep the club afloat instead of letting it fall into bankruptcy where he'd lose any remaining resale value. Sadly, I just can't see him going anywhere - especially with the new TV deal next season.

Interesting comparison Tige between NUFC and Richmond - I've always thought something similar which perhaps why I love both...as well as feel like supporting both has been detrimental to my personal health! :D

While the Richmond has finally (seemingly) got its house in order and is now a well run club (at least off field) with decent staff in important roles throughout the organisation and starting to build the foundations of a decent team on field, Newcastle is just a club happy to do things its own way regardless of what anyone else thinks.

I'd argue having a good administration team is nearly as important as having quality on the park - sadly both are sorely lacking on Tyneside. We've got an owner who doesn't overly care for the club but only wants his money. Subsequently, he appoints people that are happy to follow orders and comply with his mandate for the club. To Ashley, it doesn't really matter what their skills or expertise in football is, as long as they are 'mates' who can be trusted to do as their told, that's all he cares about. See Wise, Kinnear, Llambias, Pardew and Charnley...

A lot stinks at the club but contrary to what some media will say, I don't think most fans would hold a grudge. If Ashley showed a little bit of respect for the fans, it would go a long way. Acknowledge that some mistakes have been made along the way. Outline your true intentions for the club instead of leaving us all in the dark with next to no PR (this is the Premier League after all, the most globally watched domestic competition in the world). He gave us a 5 year plan back in 2009(?) - why not update us on that or give us a fresh blueprint of where we're heading? Dip into your pockets and spend a little money. We've been crying out for a new CB for years for example. We don't expect you to go out and drop millions on Messi, Ronaldo and co but at least show that we can compete with the likes of Swansea, West Ham and Southampton in the transfer market.

Interestingly, I believe Garde was at the City game (commentating). Honestly, I don't know why they didn't appoint a proven caretaker manager. I'm fine with waiting until the summer for a permanent replacement but what has Carver done to show he was capable of holding the fort and getting that top 10 finish Ashley craves. There's plenty of out of work managers available at the moment - why not appoint one for the final stretch of games? Carver's appointment was purely the cheapest option.

NUFC team (4-4-2):
Krul, Janmaat, Colocinni, Williamson, Haidara, Obertan, Sissoko, Abeid, Ameobi, Riviere, Cisse.

Subs: Woodman, Raylor, Gutierrez, Anita, Gouffran, Perez, Armstrong.

Interesting to see Perez dropped though nice for Riviere to start with a partner. Abeid coming in is welcome news - as is Gutierrez on the bench!
Really hope he can come on and give us a lift.
