Lucky! We struggled to control possession for the most part but where able to win with a few extra class players. Villa are deplorable, thank our lucky stars for Cisse and Krul! Janmaat/Krul/Cisse have been our best this year, I'll go Pap with some crucial goals.

Kinda want us to lose to ensure we get a new manager, read this morning a carver quote... 'I've been preparing for the summer, I could have a 3 year contract'

God help us.

Well that was a good 3 points and a massive **** all for villa. Man it would be sweet for them to down after the way they carried on when Newcastle got relegated. Massive schadenfreude but gives me something to cheer for. Imagine if Sunderland joined them. I'd be giddy

We didn't dominate, in fact Villa looked better, pap and Krul the difference. Carver carrying on like we just put 3 past Chelsea at the Bridge.
No surprise there at all! I wonder how Colo and Willo are going to go against Rooney/RVP/Falcao/Di Maria lol... could get as ugly as the City game.

I'm secretly hoping for a light bulb, enlightening 7-0 loss.. Maybe then some of the morons in charge will actually understand the depths of our issues.

:D

I'm not too fussed if they stay up or go down though if they and Scumberland were to go down together, that would be quite pleasing! :)

How'd we play? I only caught the last 10 mins of the replay and we looked pretty lucky to hold on.
Pretty much what Tige said - largely a woeful game played by 2 out of sort sides lacking any confidence. Villa could really have won this on another day - had the better of the chances and forced Krul into a few good saves. Williamson gives me a heart attack whenever he goes near the ball - Benteke was running amok before Cisse nudged us ahead with one of our few rare moments going forward.

I liked Riviere's game. Worked hard and seems to be better at holding up the ball than Cisse. Had a great chance to nab a second goal for us due to some poor Villa marking in the first half but his header just flashed wide of the post. Would have done his confidence a world of good IMO.

We need Cabella back asap as well as Aarons. I don't mind Obertan, Ameobi and later, Gouffran but none of them have that real (or at least consistent) incisive ability to make something happen out of nothing. We played 2 wingers in this game and I thought none of them really offered much - resulting in both Cisse and Riviere being largely starved of regular service. Lo and behold, our 1 decent cross in the first half came from Janmaat and we ended up scoring as a result. Note to Carver, if you want to play wingers, make sure they can whip in crosses that put the defence under pressure!

Abeid was great I thought - tidy player, broke down attacks and dispersed the ball cleanly. Very similar to Tiote without the card heavy game style or over complicating matters when in possession in a dangerous area. Think we're yet to lose a game he's started in (6 wins and a draw I think I read?).

Man Utd will probably dismantle us - Colo was great after a horror performance at City but Williamson is such a liability. Not sure how bad Haidara's injury is but Raylor was solid when he came on. The other advantage of Raylor is he can actually take set pieces. Had a shot for goal in the second half that really tested the keeper.

Highlight for me was definitely the huge cheer Jonas got when he appeared out of the tunnel as well as when his name was announced amongst the subs on the PA system. Got a lot of cheers too when he was warming up along the sidelines.

Oh and credit to Cisse - best goal celebration this season IMO. Ran over and celebrated with Jonas and the bench. :)

No Cabella and Haidara for Man Utd tomorrow plus a fresh injury for Aarons who could be out for a further week.

Had a chuckle at Carver's comments in the pregame conference.

Ahead of the game with Man United, Carver said: “It is unfortunate the way things have happened. The only way you can deal with it is if you go into the out of contract market.

Who'd have thought letting 2 first team players from a threadbare squad leave in January and not replacing them (as well as farming out youngsters to Rangers) would have negative implications for the club? Honestly, it's sometimes like the inmates run the asylum at the club!

Also, worrying signs that Carver could be a legitimate contender for the 'head coach' role permanently...

John Carver claims Mike Ashley is “delighted” with Newcastle United’s progress since he took over and says the Magpies owner retains his “enthusiasm and drive” for the black and white cause.

9 games, 2 wins, 3 draws and 4 losses. 10 goals scored, 15 conceded for a Winning percentage of 22%. Would have looked a bit better had we got wins instead of conceding late equalisers to Stoke, Palace and Burnley but when the 2 wins are against Hull and Villa, you have to wonder how he'll go against the better sides...

1-0 loss this morning to Man Utd lads - the worst being we conceded a soft goal in the 89th minute - which was directly due to a stray back pass that fell to Young with an open goal at his mercy. Abeid and Gouffran failed to deal with a ball before Abeid rushed it back to Krul who had an otherwise good game. Krul under pressure (maybe too much on the Abeid back pass) tried to control the ball and it ricocheted to Young who made no mistake).

We also had a penalty not given for this (though Man Utd had a goal incorrectly ruled as offside).

To make matters worse Cisse could be in trouble after he and Johnny Evans appeared to spit at each other in tangle during the game. Could get a retrospective ban or something probably.

There was a positive to come from the game though - Gutierrez made his playing return, coming on for Raylor at LB. Colo gave him the armband too which was a nice touch.

Hopefully next game (away to Everton in about 10 days) we will regain Cabella, Haidara and Aarons from injury - plus Colback should be available for selection after serving his 2 game ban I think.

Great report mate!

The penalty was a disgrace and Rivière done well to draw it, however I don't feel as though we deserved anything. We were dominated for most of the match, at home we barely held 30% of possession, that's just pathetic.

JC has not an ounce of technical nouse what so ever, he is a carbon copy of Pardew. Rivière looked ok and had some quality chances, I feel that if Perez had of had those opportunities he would have nailed them.

Meh, I can't wait for the season to end.

Well with Cisse gone for 7 games, Riviere and Perez are going to need to step it up.

Young Armstrong will probably get some game time too (though I suspect Carver will turn to Gouffran first...)

Carver fav for the job.. Word is he gets another 13 points he could be offered the gig (48 has been the Ashley average ).

Can you imagine a whole pre season knowing JC is our manager? Whos our favourite lower division club lads? Always had a soft spot for Preston North End, could be a new Jersey purchase for me next season! I don't mind Bristol as well, beautiful city not unlike melbourne.

Geez, that's a sobering thought isn't it! Ticket sales and attendances have been in decline already - appointing JC would definitely help turn that around...

The club has also said it will 'invest' in the summer - I'm guessing that's after they've sold off Sissoko, Janmaat and Perez to the highest bidder and pocket half the money.

Had to laugh at this gem from the recent fan-club forum.

And explaining why no signings had been made in January they went on: “The board explained that January is a very challenging market for clubs.

“The overall aim is to improve the squad and the club will only move for a player if it is felt they can help to achieve that on a longer-term basis.

So selling Yanga Mbiwa, loaning Santon and then sending out 5 reserve players on loan to Rangers AND not bringing in any replacements is all part of 'improving' the squad? Good to hear, especially since we have so much depth available! :$

The other concern is that if the club take ages to appoint a new coach (if not Carver) then chances are we will be slow in the transfer market as well as giving the new coach less time to work with the team. They also run the risk of missing out on appointments if other club's beat us to anyone we're interested in...

Awesome stuff mate! Perhaps won't go down as one of our 'classic' kits in years to come but still pretty cool gesture from your aunt.
You know how the players kits are tailored and very tight, this one is a medium but really wide, they must make them for really large people. I have to get it tailored so it's fitting and not so wide.

My favourite kit is the old Northern Rock black with white stripe adidas one from 07/08. I swear I was cursed with buying jerseys, I got Michael Owen on order when he signed, then I got Andy Carroll ( which is my fav ) and now I have this one without a player name.

My Greece world cup jersey from Nike is head and shoulders above the Newcastle one, and my Melbourne Victory one is a hell of a lot better as well, the quality difference is noticeable.

Well you know how some of the locals are - they like to go shirtless in winter and show all the blubber accumulated from too many brown ales. :D

Love the old Northern Rock branded kits - I think I have the exact same one (was my first kit back in the day). Would love to go and get a whole bunch of my old shirts framed if I could find the money haha. Miss the Adidas kits, they looked so much better than our current Puma ones IMO.

re the curse - perhaps its time you invested in a Gouffran and Williamson top mate! ;)

I'm in London at the moment, went to Palace v QPR & had a great time. Also saw Barca v Rayo Vallecano last weekend (6-1), so the two matches I've seen have had 11 goals scored and big wins to the home teams, can't complain really! The Palace folk really love Pards, I joined in with a few of their songs but drew the line at 'Super Alan Pardew" haha. Was hoping for a late appearance from Shola, but unfortunately didn't happen.

Going to try and find a pub to watch the Everton game tomorrow. Can't see us getting any joy out of the game though.

Brilliant!!

Why aren't you making the trip to Goodison? Is it a sell out?

I hope you didn't sing any Pardew chants lol... How sad is it, Pardew looks like a genius in comparison to JC.

Expecting 2-0 loss.

On my honeymoon, hard enough to get the wife to go to two soccer matches, let alone go up to cold Liverpool for one lol.

Glad I didn't... debacle.
