Mine is similar tige..

------------Krul-------------
Janmaat-Taylor-Willo--Haidara
----------Colback------------
Sissoko--Wijnaldum-----Aarons
----------De Jong------------
----------Mitrovic-----------

I think Mbemba & Colo won't be ready, leaves us with the horrible Willo and Saylor....

Tossed up between Perez and De Jong, have no preference there really, but leaning towards De Jong.
Taylor and Willo pairing is scary bad. Siem hasn't really shown much in pre season, I think he's netted a tap in but not sure he has been the creative maestro we want. But like you I won't be disappointed if he starts, I just want to see the young guys start to play really well ( Aarons/Perez/Mitrovic/Mbemba/Haidara).

Lascellas no chance to start? Surely better than Willo? Dummett was ok end of last season, he is an adequate back to to Haidara and is versatile.

I wouldn't even hate us playing De Jong and Perez both and starting Sissoko on the bench. De Jong has looked ok in highlights I have seen, has a lovely through ball. Mitro probably needs more aerial supply anyway, so probably vital that Haidara and Janmaat get forward and get crosses in. We won't win by sitting back and defending, so I hope we play quite positively.

From what I've read and seen Lascelles is a fair way off. Have a look at minutes played for the pre season:

http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/newcastle-united-pre-season-mike-9784399

Lascelles 291 to Taylor's 204. Willo 405 though ... I guess he is starting. Surprised Anita has played that many but surely we won't need two defensive mids, so would choose Colback over him. Wijndalum takes Anita's minutes.

Interesting read.. I would honestly prefer Lascellas start ahead of Willo, I honestly don't see what Willo brings to the table, he is clumsy, finds himself out of position constantly and has no agility what so ever.

Anita was brilliant towards the end of last season, wouldn't be upset if he started somehere. Siem was world class before getting to us, If you look at his Ajax highlights were getting a young and experienced CL captain who could score from distance and create chances for his strikers. I'm hoping he stays fit, like you said we need to bang in the goals because there's not much stopping them going in the other way.

Interesting teams guys...I'm just as curious to see how we line up. I've got a bad feeling we will see Taylor and Williamson together as:
  • Colo has barely played,
  • Mbemba has played only 20 minutes and can't speak English,
  • Lascelles apparently didn't impress in preseason (though I'd still have him over a known & bad quality in Williamson).
  • Dummett is recovering from an injury and should be back around late August.

Team I'd like to play:

--------------Krul--------------
Janmaat--Colo--Mbemba--Haidara
------------Colback-------------
Sissoko-----Wijnaldum----Aarons
------------De Jong (Perez)-----
------------Mitrovic-------------

Subs: Darlow (GK), Taylor, Lascelles, Anita, Cisse, De Jong/Perez, Cabella.

Team I reckon we'll play:
--------------Krul--------------
Janmaat--Taylor--Williamson--Haidara
------------Colback-------------
Sissoko-----Wijnaldum----Aarons
------------De Jong------------
------------Mitrovic-------------

Subs: Darlow (GK), Mbemba, Lascelles, Anita, Cisse, Perez, Cabella.

What about this one even. Soton have smashed us the last few times we've played so I wouldn't mind a playing 2 holding mids to try and control the midfield.

4-2-3-1

-----------------Krul-----------
Janmaat--Mbemba--Colo--Haidara
----------Colback--Anita--------
Sissoko-------Wijnaldum/De Jong--Aarons
--------------Mitrovic-----------

My favourite part of this post is there is no mention of Obertan and Gouffran at all... even in the second team!

Is Cabella fit?

Wouldn't even hate Sissoko playing a deeper role and maybe Wijnaldum on the right?

Haha! If we can avoid having Williamson, Obertan and Gouffran in any team, we'll instantly improve I reckon.

Yeah, apparently Cabella trained with the first team and is 'winning' his race to be fit for selection. Probably a decent option for the bench if he can get up!

Yeah, I believe he can play as a winger - which might be the way to squeeze him and De Jong into the same side. I actually prefer Sissoko as a CM.

Potentially:

-------Colback--Sissoko------
Wijnaldum---De Jong---Aarons
------------Mitrovic----------

On paper, our midfield is quite solid. If only we could get another CB in and move on Williamson.

I also hope we hang onto Abeid - some talk he could be off to the German Bundesliga too.

McClaren has confirmed that Colo will be captain this season... not sure I am that thrilled with the news but I guess gives things a bit of stability. Not sure if he is ready to go this week though.
Yeah, I think I'd rather a new captain personally but if Colo isn't going to be sold (wouldn't mind clearing his wages - reportedly the biggest earner in the squad), I'd have him over Williamson and injury prone Taylor. Colo is a better marshal in defence but seems to lack the physical speed and strength to boss forwards so perhaps Mbemba can bring that and Colo can organise the back 4?

Like your team Tiger, love the 2 holding midfielders and we already know Colback and Anita play well together. Based on what Mclaren has done pre season though he seems to prefer attacking formations and being at home first up he'll need to score to win over the crowd. Who knows, let's just move Willo on asap.

Bad news for you boys regarding Gouff, he's been named in the leadership group eeek. I'm interested to see how Marveaux is handled this season, no doubt the talent is there, he may just be a super sub for us.

I don't even know if we will start Mitrovic this week. He might go with the safer option of Cisse and bring Mitro on in the second half.

----------Krul---------------
Janmaat-Taylor-Willo--Haidara
------Colback--Anita---------
Sissoko--Wijnaldum-----Aarons
----------Cisse--------------

He might even hold Aarons back and play Obertan.. let's hope not though

I think Mbemba will start as will Obertan. Swap out Taylor and Aarons.

Saw that about the leadership group...interestingly, Joey Barton is available on a free. Wouldn't mind him again. Has the passion, leadership and determination our squad seems a bit light on. Won't happen though. He's 32 and still at odds with the regime haha.

Would love to see Marveaux get a chance - certainly would prefer he got game time over Obertan and Gouffran.

Welcome mate! Good to have another Toon fan (and an actual Geordie no less) in here! :D

I'd love to see Mbemba start too - same with Mitrovic, seems like he's really up for the game. For Mbemba, I'd like to play him and then sub him out if he gets tired (due to only playing 20 odd mins for us). Then again, he participated in Anderlecht's preseason so should have a bit of match fitness - all players seem to struggle in the first few games anyway as they get back into the routine.

Despite the questionable CB pairing, that's not a half bad team on paper - especially if you consider the likes of Colo, Dummett, Cabella, Perez, De Jong, Abeid, Tiote, Marveaux, Riviere, Mitrovic and Mbemba aren't included in the starting lineup.

I hope we start with Mitrovic, sounds like he is chomping at the bit to play - Cisse looks a good option off the bench anyway (assuming both don't start).

Hard not to get excited when he says stuff like this!

“I have no direct message to Premier League defenders – but they are going to kick me from the first minute. And of course, I will kick them back. This is normal for me. They will know all about me.

“I am a typical No 9. I am always in the box, strong, good in the air. Of course I like getting stuck in. I play a physical game. This is my style and you can expect to see this style from me on Sunday.”

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...ay-Newcastle-Uniteds-Aleksandar-Mitrovic.html

I like Riviere and think he will be better this season - though he struggled to hold the ball up when playing as a lone striker (did better late in the season with a partner). Cisse was the same, he's more of a poacher but doesn't offer a whole lot on the pitch. Mitrovic looks like he will fill the role that Carroll used to play - a target man who can bully defenders, hold up the ball and bring others into the game.

He's free, surprised Ashley hasn't gobbled him up! I'd take him, if only just for derby games. Would give more of an effort than recent squads.

Haha cheers mate sorry!

Well we've got massive problems in defence. I went to the Moenchengladbach game and our back four still looks a shambles. I swear there was one point where Williamson was outjumped by a 5ft midget to a header then as he was tracking back once he lost out the ref was outpacing him

We desperately need another solid centre half and a winger preferably right-sided who can cross the ball. I've seen nothing to suggest we'll be doing much damage this season I hope SDJ comes good though big season for him. Wijnaldum and Aarons will be our stand out performers I reckon I love Aarons the kids class I cant see him staying long if he has a good season you know how much the fatlad likes to make a profit.

McClaren is saying all the right things but it'll be results ultimately he's judged on.

Great to see so many NUFC fans down under wish I could take a trip I've always wanted to visit Melbourne before I pop my clogs! :thumbsu:

Agreed, need another class CB very urgently. Says a lot when Colo, Williamson and Taylor were all at the club when we in the championship, not to mention that the only team who leaked more goals last season was relegated QPR...

I saw a rumour we were looking at another Anderlecht player - a winger I think, 1 more decent winger who can put in crosses and beat his man would be very handy.

Interestingly, while you may want to visit Melbourne mate, the place I most want to visit is Tyneside. ;)

Rolando is a 4 month pre January spell of great football away from moving to one of the top 5, it's sad the situation we find ourselves in.

Willo is so clumsy it makes watching football so hard, all I see the guy doing is pointing and yelling.. Surely Lascellas would be the better option? From even what I've seen of the lad he seems prone to brain fades, it makes watching Yanga do so well with Roma really difficult to swallow.

Mitrovic will soon be a frustrated man if he doesn't get the delivery, he needs it in the air and it's not like we Nobby or Robert flying down our wings.. Janmaat is probably our best crosser, hopefully we get him streaming down and firing nice balls from the right.

What is your 11 for the weekend ?

Been to Tyneside, loved it

4th signing lads! Ivan Toney!

Probably one for the future but who knows, might come on faster than expected like Perez!
Don't know anything other than the fact he couldn't score Northampton!! Here's hoping for some development, hardly Inspiring though :(
