Not sure how genuine this is - there was talk a few years back of Vince buying us too so could be a whole lot of nothing but...

Another day, another paper banned by Mike Ashley - though at least this time, it was due to a paper (Sunday Express) suggesting Pardew would get the sack if he lost his next game vs Villa and the publisher didn't contact the club to verify the story beforehand.

Found this pretty funny pic this morning in response to the club's statement:

A bit concerning - possible alarm bells over night with Debuchy and Shola admitting they are not sure where they will be playing next season.

With Remy's loan deal to end and De Jong's deal as well plus a few others like Gosling, we could have an even more depleted squad unless Ashley decides to invest.

One of our forgotten men, Mehdi Abeid is doing very well on loan at Panathinaikos.

He's 21 and scored 5 goals this season and had 2 Man of the match performances already. According to this article, he has slick passing, good work rate and a bit of creativity in attack - maybe could be a replacement for Cabaye next season if Mike Ashley takes the expected cheap route. Greek Football isn't doing too well at the moment but maybe he could be a possible squad player next season if a few people leave. I believe he has already appeared in the club in both the Europa and domestic cups last season.

Ashley reportedly willing to sell for $250m - wonder if he would get any takers at that price?

In better news, Colo, Remy and Tiote all should return tonight to give us a big boost. Hopefully we can beat Villa at home.

To say we needed a win was an understatement. Lot of disillusionment lingering around the club with our failure to replace Cabaye and the heavy defeats in the derby and to Spurs last week. 7 and a half hours without a goal and 5 home defeats in a row.

First goal since boxing day and our first win without Cabaye since he left. We looked so much better with Colo, Tiote and Remy back in. Releases a massive pressure valve on the players and steadies the ship a bit.

More importantly, we have now reached the magical 40 so can in most likelihood, limp to the end of the season without fear of being sucked into the relegation scrap! Hopefully will give the players a bit of inspiration and belief to keep playing well until the end of the season.

Here's the goal - left it late but classy by Remy. Great composure. Great set up by Debuchy and De Jong - De Jong and Remy might be our best combination of strikers now that he is starting to get some of that sharpness back.

Loved this photo as well - great scenes! Also, Remy dedicated the goal to John Carver who's dad recently passed away. Great gesture - really hope we sign him but with him getting off the rape allegations and his performances being very impressive, I can see bigger clubs with more money sniffing.

Certainly bombarded the TV with expletives watching that game, and so glad that Remy's class returned and got the winner.
If I had a spare $250 mill I'd buy and bring back Kegan and Shearer.
I'd get you on the payroll somehow Newcy Tiger;maybe you and i will do the drinks and tucker.:thumbsu::rainbow:

Yeah, really looked like it wasn't meant to be after Remy hit the post late in the game. Loved the celebration though, really lifted the mood a bit!

Haha cheers scon! I'm not much for serving drinks and food but more than happy to put my hand up to be the quality tester. Maybe we can even introduce kebabs in honour of Cabaye :D

I guess this is good (better to make a profit than a loss but it also shows how badly the club is being run). While commercial revenue is up (masked by the new TV deal), our match day earnings fell (because of all the free advertising Cashley gets from plastering his sports direct banners around the stadium and at press conferences).

Also had to laugh at this:

"Everyone at this club wants to finish as high up the Barclays Premier League table as they possibly can.

"If the club can sustain itself as a 'top-10' team year-on-year with a stable structure and the right finances, it gives itself every chance of pushing even further.

"Matchday and commercial revenue is a key driver, because that's where the club can compete with - and out-perform - its competitors to enhance its spending capabilities.

"Ultimately the income the club generates, particularly given the restrictions of the Premier League FFP Rules, will directly impact on the strength and quality on the pitch.

"The process requires patience, but we remain absolutely committed to growing the club in a responsible and sustainable way."

So the club's plan for pushing into the top bracket of teams is to try and consistently finished in the top 10 and then build from there? How exactly are we going to make ground on the teams that finish above us and who get more prize money? Further to that, how can they claim to growing the club in a responsible and sustainable way when they don't invest any money on players which are clearly needed and the selling of key players?

Good start so far - 1-0. Amazing double save from Krul and 26 seconds later, we're 1 up thanks to a well hit Sissoko goal on the counter.

Colo out and back in Argentina with a family bereavement - good to see Yanga preferred to Taylor (IMO) - him and Willo had a nice partnership earlier in the season.

Great win away from home which should do the boys a lot of confidence but suspect the Pardew incident will overshadow the result sadly.

Remy, 2 for Sissoko and Anita with a late goal in injury time.

$100,00 fine for Pardew issued by the club.

Probably fair though you have to remember the whole incident wouldn't have happened had Meyler (the Hull player) hadn''t provoked Pardew with the initial shove. Also, as I've seen some people point out, Meyler had to be restrained by 3-4 players as well but seems to have gotten off fairly lightly.

Knowing the FA, they will come down hard on Pardew but I wonder if they will remember this?

$200000.
Bit more than small change but deserved every penny.
Hard to fathom someone in his position with so little self-control,maturity or sense of leadership.Absolute knob-end behaviour. Then instead of sucking it up and acknowledging his idiocy starts waving his finger around as though he'd done nothing untoward.
Just pointless and infantile;really makes me wonder. We were sitting pretty so no need for the baby-tough-boy-imitation,should have just brushed it off winding Meyler up more if he wanted by saying something.
Overshadowed an excellent counter attacking display.Team played really well all over the park.

Agreed scon - the only blemish on a great team performance.

Hopefully we can put it behind us and get on with the run in games this season.

With Scumberland losing the Carling Cup final to Man City, it now looks like the team that finished 7th will qualify for Europa League next season (currently 8th but right on Man Utd's shoulder). Although our squad is small and we struggled last season, it would definitely be an advantage to have European football to offer players to come join us than not. Besides, the extra money, we could just throw the kids and fringe players into some games to try and keep the league focused on doing well in the league - or if Cashley splurges some money, maybe we can have a serious tilt at getting some silverware!

Certainly better to have something to play for in the remaining games than not.

I forgot to mention last week, our man Curtis Good (young Aussie defender on the books at the Toon - but on loan at the moment) got a call up to the socceroos squad! Hope he gets his first cap!

Nice to see young Aussie and toon player Curtis Good make his debut for the Socceroos this morning. Playing about 70 mins, he apparently looked quite solid (before the team fell apart).

Definitely good for his development to have him playing internationals - would be happy to see him feature for us in Brazil!

Debuchy, Remy and Sissoko all played in France's win over Holland (maybe they should have selected Krul!).

Tiote played a full game for Ivory Coast and Cisse played for Senegal.

From all reports, no injuries which is always good! :thumbsu:

Not sure what this guy's problem is but he really doesn't like Newcastle! (owner of Montpellier)

Cabella was heavily linked with a transfer to Newcastle in January but Nicollin believes that the 23-year-old should be aiming higher if he leaves the French club.

"Newcastle? They're good, aren't they? Don't make me laugh. In England, you should play at Arsenal or Chelsea or either of the Manchester teams at a push," Nicollin told RMC.

"We promised to let him leave. But I'll advise him not to leave for just anywhere."

Thought Curtis looks the Goods the other night against Ecuador.Good size,Good reader of the play, keen to create and attack from the back which is Good,Good composure and Good back up for the club in an area where we are already quite strong;his opportunities in the EPL may be limited which is not so Good.
This bloke also looks the Goods:

Poor Curtis Good got injured and is out for 6 weeks. Hope that doesn't hurt his WC chances!

Pardew has been given a 7 game ban (3 stadium and 4 touchline) plus fined $60,000 for his headbutt. Big task for John Carver and the coaches to try and manage the team during games without him.

Bad news for Goodsy because as I said I thought he was impressive in the international.I couldn't see a 6 week injury necessarily excluding him.The way rehab is run these days they can keep them pretty fit while injured somehow.
I reckon Pardew's game plan is pretty formulaic and could be written in triplicate on the back of a stamp so I think I'll disagree NUFC Tiger;Carver and co might get us going even better, although it's ultimately back to very limited options with the squad size and player quality.
The incident has taken me back to my previous opinion of Pardew as a 'friggin eejit' just as I was beginning to give him a lot more credit.
It remains beyond my comprehension how someone in his position could behave in such an infantile and disreputable manner.
The incident probably gives Cashley a trigger to end the monster contract Pardew's got if he wants to,but I get the impression Ashley has the 'yes-man' he wants.
