No argument on that - only the club and Pardew/his representatives would know if such a provision exists but its heavily rumoured to have a clause of such a nature. Given the number of managers we've had in the last 10-15 years, I for one like the idea of trying to create some stability :D
Completely agree - I just think the timing of the 8 year contract was a bit crazy - after what, your first season back up in the PL?? That immediately put pressure on to perform... Maybe could have waited until the end of the second season up, and if the club was happy, then show faith.

Didn't they give it to him last year after their success, which was their second season up?

Yep that's right SM. This is our third season back in the PL - the 8 year contract was pretty much put in place after our great season last year where we finished 5th. Funnily enough, our season started to fall apart (with injuries and out of form players, the ramping up of the number of games with Europa) after Pardew agreed to the 8 year deal. On the one hand it's good to have the stability but I think the manager has to 'feel' the pressure to a degree to ensure they are always doing their best and not getting complacent. If true, the clause where we only need to pay 1 season's salary out should ensure Pardew doesn't get too comfortable with his 8 year deal :D

I would doubt someone like SAF 'feels' the pressure though, and United still perform, so I think it's a bit of a horses for courses thing. Look at Wenger, I have no clue what he has to do for Arsenal to sack him and try something new to win a trophy.

Now that Toon have their French contingent, hopefully the squad depth lets them bounce back next season and Pardew can stick around. Not a fan of him personally, but a fan of stability in this crazy Football world

He went to manu bec of money like most players do.

Thought I heard that he was on less at Man Utd? Surely even the most staunch Gooner would admit that he may have had reasons other than money. He would have been on very good coin as Arsenal captain.

He got a pay rise at United, but went to United for trophies.

Van Persie was raised organically in a pot at Manchester United's academy. He plays for half time oranges and for the love of the game like the rest of the squad.

The only teams that pay their players money are those nasty ones like Manchester City who invented transfer fees and wages in 2009.

They also bought a memory changing machine to try and convince people that Van Persie once played for another club and Man United actually paid money to buy him.

It won't work.

I'm glad you see it our way ;)

spending 20 million on benteke would indeed be pissing it away. he's not a 20 mil rated player. buying a player for that price i'd want something more proven than scoring goals for a relegation candidate. for 20 mil you want a striker who will improve your strikeforce, 20 mil for a 4th in line striker is just stupid.

and i know it's not my money, no idea what that has to do with logically looking at a transfer and the value of a player. it's not 2009, we're not just trying to buy anyone and everyone.
I would think scoring goals for a relegation candidate would count for more than say a better side who creates many more chances....
11 goals in the league for a terrible side and he missed the first 3 or 4 games.... and what 21?

but yeah pissing it away.

Didnt AC score 11 or so goals in about half a season at a young age and he is shite.

the arrogance and delusion of the city fans is amusing, even if incredible disrespectful.
you guys have turned into everything you used to despise.

haha oh please

where is the sensible part of spending 20 mil on a guy who would not improve the team more than what we already have?

Think he's referring to moomba's rant about wages, which overlooks City offering to pay RVP about 300k.

omg he's such a good player! you have so much money! it doesn't matter if you spend 20m, you can just spend another 20m! :p

He's the main man at Villa, he wouldn't be that at City. He would get less game time with us and it would hinder his development.

What he's worth to Villa is certainly more than what he would be worth to us.

The funny thing is, if we did all suggest the club should spend £20m to ride roughshod over Villa and nick their best player to sit on our bench you'd be accusing us of arrogance and delusion.

It's funny how many people get offended by the big money in the game until there's a chance of their club getting a taste of it. Surely as a Villa fan you should be screaming from the rooftop "Benteke is not for sale".
