He's the main man at Villa, he wouldn't be that at City. He would get less game time with us and it would hinder his development.

What he's worth to Villa is certainly more than what he would be worth to us.

The funny thing is, if we did all suggest the club should spend £20m to ride roughshod over Villa and nick their best player to sit on our bench you'd be accusing us of arrogance and delusion.

I've never said we weren't interested. Just that we never offered £300k a week.

Signing RVP for £300k would cost us £15m a year on his wages, £20m on his transfer fee, £10m a year matching Tevez and Yaya (and maybe Aguero) with the clubs new highest earner as their contract entitles them.

Every other player or prospective player would use £300k as a base for negotiations instead of the current maximum. It would ultimately cost us close to £100m a season.

Meanwhile we're tightening our belts in preparation for FFP. Re-signing the likes of Silva and Kompany on lower bases (with performance bonuses), passing on Hazard as he was too expensive.

If you want to believe in fairytales you go for it.

in case you don't know, icardi is a 19 year old argie from sampdoria who bought him for a measly 400k last summer. 8 goals in 18 serie a games, and is probably best know for his 2 goals vs juve and 4 goals vs pescara.
