He was never going to rejoin the club permanently, and when there was talk of it, he was too old anyway.

I wouldn't say that it won't happen. If he decides to leave you can bet that we will inquire or even make an offer. PSG would be favourites and if he wanted a return to the PL then you can bet City and Chelsea would also have a look.
