Spurs made an offer for him but werent prepared to go as high as we did. 'Arry confirmed they were in for him (along with about a million other players).

So really no one else.

Makes me lol how easily United fans forget this and forgave Rooney. He was willing to leave "the club he loves" for money, talked down the team and it's players and most likely would have left to their biggest rivals across the road.

for the love of the club.

is that why he held the club to ransom, demanded to leave and then got the biggest contract in the premier league because of it?

out of love?

Yes, your right, he hates United.

I haven't forgotten it at all, i was not happy at the time and thought Rooney was being a massive w***er, but i think he would love the club he currently plays for, regardless of wanting to leave. Ronaldo was desperate to leave us but he loved the club and still does.

I think Rooney would be a bit different. I do believe that he did question our ambition. I did as well. We sold the best player in the world and had replaced him with a player from Wigan. The money probably was also a factor but that was deserved as well imo. He is now on 180k a week which is about what a player of which value should be getting. If he wants more again and tries to hold us to ransom then he can piss off. If he left though I don't think his love for United for still be there. When Ronaldo left Manchester a couple of days ago he boys had given him Giggsy's 1000th match worn shirt signed by all of the players.

There's no doubt in my mind Rooney questioned the clubs ambition, and just like you, i did as well. Like you said, we sold our best player, (and at the time, the worlds best player) Ronaldo for £80m, then signed players like Valencia, Obertan, Own, Bebe, Young etc, none are top class players, maybe only Valencia who has grown into one. Don't get me wrong, we've made some excellent signings of late with the likes of DDG, Chicharito, Kagawa and RVP, but before those guys arrived, we were picking up average players here and there. Rooney clearly wanted more money and wanted more world class players around him, we've given him that, but if he has another bust up and wants out, then let him go.

This is all just speculation by the media though, nothing from United or Rooney to suggest he could be leaving, to me, Rooney seems fine and happy, but as we know, all that can change.

Would have thought he'd be on that already I guess it only be this seasons form has warranted it. Good news for Liverpool as a pay rise will mean he's not leaving

Since Rodgers' arrival there has been a significant adjustment in the way Liverpool have structured all new player contracts, players are now routinely given a lower basic salary and heavily weighted performance based incentives such as the one being reported by Suarez. There's been public references to this made by Rodgers and Ayre in numerous interviews, that players will be paid well if and when they deliver the performances that merit them. It's not a pay rise per se as it's still the same contract Suarez signed in August, he's just unlocked the performance bonuses that were promised to him if he reached the various targets the club expected of him. So long as he didn't underperform he was always going to be paid this much under the terms of that contract.

Information like this being leaked to the media will serve to alert potential targets that despite a more responsible attitude to spending than has been seen in recent years we are still more than capable of paying the sorts of big wages that top quality players will be looking for (if they feel the player deserves it). I think this is a big step forward for us as a club in terms of managing our finances, as we're no longer going to be running the risk of being left with underperforming and overpaid players who become impossible to shift on because of their ridiculous contract situations. The sort of reckless decision making that saw us hand out long term contracts approaching £100k/week to the likes of Cole, Poulsen, Aquilani, Jovanovic etc (who to be honest didn't fulfill their end of the bargain and provide the club with consistently strong performances that would merit a salary of that size) cost the club millions over the last few years, and I'm glad they've moved to rectify it.

i'd say more to us. it'd have to be 50 mil before we consider it. obviously that wont happen but that's his value to us.

massive contract, captain, one of the most loved players, massive influence. dont think he'll ever leave except maybe to go play the last year or so of his career at anderlecht.

also forgot to mention we apparently have first refusal on jovetic due to the nastasic/savic deal.
