Arsenal may not be too happy about that scenario, we've seen with Van Persie, Nasri etc that they always like to see a return on their investment even if the player is coming out of contract. There's also nothing to say Walcott wouldn't get a signing bonus anyway.

I also found this quote before, taken from an interview a few years back:

Walcott: "I was a Liverpool fan simply because my dad followed them. Unfortunately I wasn't born when the team had their golden era, but I enjoyed watching the likes of Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler and Steve McManaman when I was growing up. When Liverpool won the Champions League I went mad. I was shouting so loud I think I woke up the entire village where I live!"

Stop asking for money for Joe Cole. Just release him on a free. Im pretty sure he would agree his contract being torn up knowing he could fetch a big sign on fee being a free agent. He wont leave any other way. Downing on the other hand will probably fetch say 3-4 mill with the club also handing him a big sign on fee to reduce his wages.
Can easily get more than 3-4 million for Downing.

I wonder if Villa would take him back. They don't spend on players any more, but I agree with Thewlis anyway, no-one is going to pay more than £5m for him.

Anyway, I'd just like to give Stewart a big well done. He's trying really hard.

Walcott probably wants to wait til next summer before he moves, if he is smart

Unless there's a club in for him that he wants to go to in Jan

Cup tied now as well.

Christian Eriksen has refused to sign a new contract at Ajax. Dutch papers are reporting interest from City, Liverpool and United. He probably won't move in January but no doubt there'll be a few offers for him anyway.

We owe Villa 9 million for Downing, the most likely result is they will wipe the debt for him if he goes back there. Would be a good signing for them, Downing needs to be a big fish in a small pond to be effective. Talented player but doesn't have the mental strength to play at a club like ours unfortunately.

The need is very much to bring players in in January, with Cole maybe the exception (please god let Cole be an exception), I doubt we'll be offloading in January. It would more than likely take a good offer to sell Downing in Jan, which obviously is unlikely as he is awful. Maybe a move next summer for 4-5m to perhaps Middlesborough if they go up.

Our squad is pretty thin. I guess it depends on a few things. How much we bolster the squad in January, also if a deal is put together that we cant say no to. I dont care if we sell him in January, he is gone either way, be it January or at the end of the season.

Why would Villa wipe a debt of £9m to buy back a player that's arguably worth less than half of that?

Just because Liverpool paid stupid money it doesn't mean Villa are obliged to reciprocate.

They'd rather keep the £9m.

But he isnt worth less than that. Id value Downing around 10 million. We stupidly overpaid for him. He is a good player, but needs to be the big fish at a small club. Id be surprised if we cant sell him for around 10 million. Plenty of mid table to lower clubs will be interested.

How many mid to lower clubs have £10m to spend on a player that will be 30+ at the end of his contract, on high wages and has been total crap for 18 months?

If you're lucky Mark Hughes will still be in a job and keen.

18 months? Had a great season at Villa 10/11. Your dreaming if you think a 28 year old left footed winger / England international who has nearly 10 years of EPL experience will go for 5 million. His wages aren't that high either. 8-10 million is about right and we wouldn't be interested in selling him for any less.

As far as I can recall his last game at Villa was May 2011, 18 months ago. And given he won't be sold until January I should probably amend that to a shit 20 months.

He was an £8-10m signing (maybe a couple of million more) when he left Villa and his stock has plummeted since.

If you're not interested in selling him for less then a) you're stupid and b) enjoy paying the wages of someone that your manager clearly doesn't rate for another year or so.

I think Man City will sell Balotelli for 10-15 million in January. Nobody will pay more than that. The guy is an idiot and there is no guarantee he will ever grow up. Juventus is my prediction.

We won't sell a striker unless we get a striker in. If that does happen (January or the summer) only Aguero would be out of the question.
