Assists are a rubbish stat, I'd wager the majority of Ince's come from a wide forward position. Not the wing.
I just can't explain the disparity, Ince playing further forward is no real excuse.

If you watch either team play they play totally different roles. Ince plays as a third forward, his main strength is running behind defences and his job is totally attacking one.

Zaha doesn't play a traditional wing role either, wide midfielder and much more involved in play than Ince who is more the type to get on the end of others good play.

FWIW I think Zaha is more suited to Man Uniteds style of play, and Ince is more suited to Liverpools. FWIW I haven't seen enough of either to know whether either will be a success or not.

Because Fergie has never taken a gamble before?

Never say never.

It won't happen. We are not going to overpay for a Championship player.

You paid 9 mill for Bebe, if that isn't overpaying then I don't what is.

What kind of person uses facts to prove there argument?

Looks like Zaha is almost done. I think I saw it would be 10mil going up to 15mil depending on performances. I just hope Sir Alex knows what he is doing. He usally does
Looking at other top teams:

The sugar daddy clubs, City, and to a lesser degree, Chelsea, tend to go for the finished article. Real Madrid the same.

Barca rely on their own academy, but when they enter the transfer market, it's usually for top, proven talent.

I don't know what Bayern do.

Arsenal follow our policy, and frequently compete with us for the same players - Ramsey, Smalling, Oxlade Chamberlain, Zaha.... But clearly they haven't enjoyed much success in recent years.

man utd spend on players that are the finished article a hell of alot more than Arsenal. Just look at Van persie

RVP was certainly an exception

You have to have a mixture of both.

At some point Arsenal is going to need to splash some cash for a big fish.

It's amazing how united are constantly up there given how broke they are and never spend big....

Pepe Reina's father, Miguel, has told the Spanish press that the Liverpool keeper would be "more than delighted" to return to Barcelona.

The Catalan club learned last week that Victor Valdes will not renew his contract, which expires in 2014, and in the days since have been linked with a number of keepers, including Manchester United's David De Gea, Chelsea's Thibaut Courtois and Reina.
The Liverpool keeper, 30, started his career at Camp Nou after coming through the youth ranks with Valdes but left for Villarreal in 2002 as his team-mate became the club's number one.
Now his father, who also represented Barca as a goalkeeper, says Liverpool's number one is ready to return to his first club.
Reina senior told laxarxa.com the Liverpool star "would be more than delighted to return to Barcelona."
He added: "I believe that Pepe has demonstrated enough the quality of keeper he is.
"Today I think he would rise to the occasion at Barcelona - and what's more he would be the ideal keeper for Barcelona, without any doubt."

To be fair, the ABU brigade love to harp on the 'United have no money', 'Uncle Malcs bleeding you dry' etc etc. We may not have Arab or Russian billions, and have to be somewhat more prudent in the transfer market, but they have some to spend.

a good a chance as any for liverpool to wash their hands of reina. hasn't been performing for a solid 18 months now, bar a few occasions. get rid, get a decent fee for him and start afresh with a 22-23 year old in goal.
Dont know about that. He had a wayward 12 months but has been pretty solid this season. Ill be sad to lose him as he is still young and has the best years ahead of him. But when Barca come calling, not a lot any club can do about that. Well unless we somehow finish 4th.

but do you really want your top line keeper to just be solid? he's made mistakes that a keeper of his age and calibre just shouldn't make. the main question to ask is, do you trust pepe reina between the sticks every game? a couple of months ago i thought that brad jones was actually a legitimate chance to take the no 1 spot from him.

the guy is 30 and entering what should be his prime as a goalkeeper, but he's looking as shaky as i've ever seen him. granted he's put in some good performances over the last few weeks, but overall he's been ordinary for the last year and a half. if barca come in with a 15 mil bid or so (he still has a fair bit left on his contract) i think liverpool would be more than tempted to sell.

i guess the other problem is that there is a real lack of top line keepers to replace him. maybe someone like a ter stegen or patricio? even as young as butland is a possibility.

Problem is we've been linked to Valdes as his replacement....

Hope we get Butland instead

it will be interesting to see where valdes ends up. he's let me down after my staunch defence of him a few months ago. i don't think he's good enough for any top club. and i can't really see any top club being interested in him. he's been sheltered by a world class defence for years, and has still made a few absolute howlers. strange decision to leave barca where he probably had a spot until he retired.

Without doubt I trust him. I hate it when he is out. Not sure about other LFC fans but I am completely at ease with Pepe inbetween the sticks. Yet when Jones plays, im always on edge.

He has a long contract so 15 million wont be enough.

How long did that close before it was annouced?
If we do sign him I hope we didn't give in to Palace. Worth no where near 14mil or whatever they wanted for him

He's not worth 14 for United but Palace need to play hard ball. Losing a key player like Zaha could be the difference between staying down or going up to the Prem and making 40 mil from TV rights. If there is a loan involved in the transfer then I don't think Palace should be complaining about a 14-15mil Transfer fee. Looks like another overrated English player to me.
