So what you're saying is, if he was a better finisher, he'd be a better striker?

Guys like RVP and Aguero are so good because they only need a half chance and it's in the net. Suarez has been great this season but he doesn't have their cutting edge, and 11 games is a ridiculous sample size to start saying things like "he'd be City's best striker".

Would be interested to see how many minutes/sub appearances they both have had in those 60-odd games. Mancini loves to rotate his attackers.

And just to stop BF's collective head from exploding, the Messi & Ronaldo comparison was just to demonstrate how much his finishing is holding him back. I don't see him as anywhere near their level and nor is he ever likely to be as I can't see his finishing improving much more. Having said that the stats over an extended period (60+ games should be enough) show his goal scoring & assist numbers stack up well against Aguero's, so considering the fact we consider Suarez a terrible finisher that tells you how good his all round game must be (ie how many chances he must be creating to score that many goals compared to Aguero).

You also need to look at where the goals are scored.

At the start of this season, Suarez had 15 goals from 44 appearances in the league, you just can't call anyone an elite forward with those numbers. Even now it's 23 goals from 55 appearances which is below what you'd expect from a top line forward (Aguero has 26 from 42 FWIW).

If he carries on the way he has this season those stats will undoubtedly improve. But I agree on the 11 games statement.

hardly has a better scoring rate. 30 from 60 compared to 16 from 41. aguero has more goals for us than suarez does for liverpool, in 13 less league games too. only recently has suarez played better than aguero, that doesn't make him a better player by any stretch of the imagination.

The ol' better team argument though, Aguero has far better teammates than Suarez. Suarez is a one man army in terms of having to create most his own chances coz, well, we suck

Don't think Suarez is better than Aguero and Tevez by any chance, but wouldn't say he's that far from them

With jod on this one ... slightly. On this seasons form, Suarez is more than worthy of being talked about as a top-line EPL striker.

Can also work the other way, as in most of Liverpool's chances fall to him because, well, who else are they going to fall to?

i dont believe anyone is doubting that he's a "top line EPL striker". he most certainly is.

but he is no way in hell the best. let alone better than ageuro/tevez etc.

ridiculously premature to say he's number 1 when the season is not even one third complete. perhaps by the end of may this will be the case if he sustains this form, but way to early to judge now.

When it comes down to it, he's only got two more goals than Dzeko, despite playing over 10 hours more football in the league.

And as much as I like him I don't think anyone is going to accuse Dzeko of being one of the top two or three forwards in the league any time soon.

Simon Mullock from Sunday Mirror is tweeting that the Suarez story is coming from Liverpool.

I wonder how much money FSG has after the huge loss the John Henry took on a hedge fund recently.

From Mullocks twatter

Just had a call from a very senior source at MCFC. Been told there has been no move for Luis Suarez and there are no plans to bid.

Lot of anger at the Etihad about being linked with Suarez. MCFC think LFC are trying to create a market for their most prized asset

Suarez story written by Merseyside-based reporters. Clearly briefed by LFC. What the motive is for misinformation is a matter of conjecture

I might get canned but when on form Rooney is a better all round striker then Suarez and Tevez.

On form he has a good case. Although he seems to go through long boom and bust periods, where the others are more consistent.

The others don't defend like him though. Rooney will drop back and play middle.

I reckon he should move permanently to the midfield, maybe in the Scholes role.

I'd argue that Aguero and particularly Tevez do as much defensively.

But it's all about the role you're supposed to play, at the moment Rooney pretty much is playing as a midfielder.

Can't really argue the toss as we will both go for our boys ;)

To be honest I wouldn't even bother arguing that Aguero is better than Rooney or vice versa. Too subjective, and you could mount a pretty good argument for either.

Rooney is still a fat granny shagging weetbix headed twat though. ;)

Play the ball not the man;)

i think one think kun needs to work on is scoring away from the etihad. i don't think he can be a truly top class striker until he consistently scores away from home.

Fair point, can't say I've really noticed it before.

19 at home, 7 away in the league since he arrived.

Manchester Evening News also running the "Liverpool briefing" line.

Following Occam's razor, simplest explanation is usually the correct one, so I'm going to go with some journalist making up bullsh*t to build a story which will sell papers heading into the transfer window. FSG aren't stupid, under no circumstances would selling Suarez be either a good business or footballing decision in our present position.
