I'm sure Suarez will eventually leave (as do most players from most clubs), but it won't be in January. It was a different set of circumstances with Torres, despite that very forced statement it was well known that he was unhappy and he was basically told to keep quiet and stay at the club while the sale went through to maximize the value of the club. It was inevitable that he would hand in a transfer request at the first opportunity so I don't think it's fair to use him in a comparison with Suarez who hasn't shown anything like the sulking and much documented 'poor body language' Torres showed in his last few months at the club.

Used to illustrate the fact that when a club says a player won't be sold it doesn't mean they won't be sold.

And when players say they don't want to leave it doesn't mean the player doesn't want to leave.

Many, many examples of that.

IIRC, Modric spoke about how much he wanted to stay at the club and grow with the group in May 2011. No more than a month later, Abramovich's boat is in his hometown and he's asked to leave.

You recall wrong.

He never said that.[/quote/]

I must be thinking of something else then lol.

But like what others have said, players lie and so do clubs. Like the Ronaldo saga, everyone knew he wanted out after the CL win but SAF kept saying he is staying and wouldn't sell Madrid a virus etc. Also, the week leading up to the 2009 CL final against Barclona, Ronaldo said in an interview that he would be staying at United.

I think every player has a price, but Liverpool would be making a bad decision if they were to sell Suarez in the summer, because even though they would have £20m+, what world class player/s could they attract?

You can never say never but Suarez is close to it. Different situation with Torres, he was in poor form and was coming off an injury prone 12 months when we sold him. Further to that we didn't batter an eyelid at Chelseas initial 25 mill offer and once negotiations reached the 50 million point we ripped Chelseas arm off for it.

Unlike Torres Suarez is fit, focussed and in incredible form, not to mention a couple of years younger then Torres was when we sold him.

As I said previously it would take City offering 40 mill +Dzeko to interest us and that's if Suarez would even want to move there.

We're not interested in Suarez, why would we then buy him and agree to have our pants pulled down in the process.

But if you think Suarez would be worth Dzeko and £40m you're more lunatic than I first thought.

Out of interest, what do you think he is worth?

£40-50m if he carries on his current goal scoring form for the whole season.

£25-30m if he reverts to the 1 in 3 man he was last season.

Personally I'd be taking off £5m from those prices for his twattiness/bad for club image issues.

Tevez must only be worth £5m given you'd have to take into account you're going to lose him for 6 months of every year to the PGA tour.

On that, I wonder whether the African Cup Of Nations is taken into account when signing African players? You effectively lose that asset for a significant amount of time in the middle of every 2nd season (it's a stupid time to have an international tournament and occurs too regularly) and so surely when a club's recruitment team is looking at 2 players to sign, both of very similar ability but one is African, I would've thought there'd be many cases where they'd be more inclined to take the non-African?

He's not worth that much, that's why we would consider selling Suarez if such an offer were to be tabled. When you lot were after Agger we also said we wouldn't consider anything less then 28 million, doesn't mean we actually think he's worth that much.

You don't think Tevez value was effected by his holiday last year?

I'd say most clubs would take ACN into account when signing African players.

Having someone regularly miss games mid season (through any reason including biting and racism) is a big inconvenience to a team.

It does actually.

Liverpool fans overating their players. What else is new. Suarez worth 40-50 + Dzeko? So that's about 60mil at least. He is worth about 35-40mil in an open market. Maybe a bit more if PSG/Anzhi come into play. Whether that is on cash or made up of players as well. However I doubt Liverpool will sell him because he is about their only A-grade current player

No it does not.

How so?

If x is the price that you're prepared to sell for that's his value according to you.

What you're saying is that selling him for 1p less than your quoted price just isn't worth it for your club.

That seems an awful lot like having a value for a player. If I say I wouldn't like us to pay more than £16-18m for Agger then that's the value I place on him.

Put it this way, my house is worth 500k, I am happy living there and not looking to sell. If someone came along who desperately wanted my house and were offering 800k I would most likely accept the offer. That's the situation with Agger and even moreso with Suarez.

So you value your house at 800k. Its worth that much to you.

Others might not, and a sale probably wouldn't happen unless someone was so desperate to pay 800k for it. In that case they would also value the house at 800k.

And it doesn't explain how you value the price of the house of Downing for £10m plus when is expensive to maintain, has fallen apart and you're desperate to get rid.

I get the whole concept of ambit claims in negotiations but sometimes I feel that forum posters actually believe they have a part to play in the negotiation process rather than just say what the actually think.

Yeah it was just another independent though that entered my head, it wasn't related to Tevez or any Man City player, I was just asking the question in the context of African players who would potentially be available during this upcoming transfer window.

Downing is that house we bought in Detroit that we still have a large mortgage on but is now worth about $5000.
