Heard he wasn't having medical until Monday/Tuesday of next week.

Work permit will be interesting. Would need to qualify under exceptional talent rules, I'm not sure that could be justified based on his career history.

Although I know this Coutinho was a wonderkid (according to Fifa 09 anyway ;) ) and plays for Inter, if he was really that good surely you'd have more competition than Southampton for his sig

That's what struck me. Seemingly not much competition for his services.

Just as an aside is there any back story to Sahin leaving Liverpool?
I remember him as a star in the Bundesliga, not much of a look in at Real and then gone after 5 months at Anfield.

i don't think there's any thing massive behind it. from what i saw he really struggled to adapt. i don't think he was fully fit when he came over as well imo. a long time out, then gets shipped off to a whole new league after missing practically a year of competitive football. couldn't adapt to the pace, and because of that wasn't given many consecutive games in the team when they had guys like allen, gerrard, hendo who all played the same position, and all were playing better honestly.

A few people quick to write off a 20 year old Brazilian international.

He was very good for Espanyol, and was battling with some handy players at Inter, when they were a fairly strong side.

There's plenty of handy players riding benches in Europe atm, especially young players.

Sterling can play right wing, Countinho down the left. Good combo.

Wouldn't have thought anyone on here has seriously written him off. Even the one that doesn't rate him has said that with development he might be a good signing.

I have a name.:p

I'm always wary of signing Brazillians in the EPL, apart from Ramirez/Oscar (and Ramires took awhile to get going) most attacking Brazillian players have been duds. What Coutinho does have is bags of ability and creativity - something we need desperately. With Champions League & Serie A experience I do think he is a better deal then Zaha though who epitomises the overrated English youngster which we've had our fair share of at Anfield.

The difference is Zaha is strong enough for the English game.

Yeh I reckon Zaha is overated but hey, its not my money

However I am only going by Youtube highlights and stats. He was good against us last year though and most seem to think he'll be a success

I think he will end up being a good signing for you if the transfer is tied up. I'm presuming your lineup would be something like:
-------------Suarez-----------
Sterling---------------Sturridge
-------Coutinho----Gerrard----
-------------Lucas------------
That's a good looking side. Not championship material yet but could push Arsenal and Spurs for 4th place in the coming seasons.

Personally, i'm not convinced with Zaha either. Looking through his stats, they're decent but not outstanding especially with Palace being a pretty good team reflected by their top 6 position in the league. I'd have thought he would have better looking stats. But, you look through the videos and you can say Zaha also has bags of ability and potential, including that performance against us last season, so you shouldn't say he epitomises the overrated English youngster....yet. I hope he proves you wrong.

As PS said though, Zaha has the physical advantage over Coutinho and is more adapted to the Premier League. Coutinho might need a season or 2 to fully spread his wings.

Why all the arguments on Coutinho when most have seen little of him.

The truth is, it's low risk. If he doesnt work out, he will be 21/22 having played for two huge clubs in Liverpool and Inter. Im sure lots of Brazillian teams will want a piece of him for 5-10 million. So if he doesnt work out, we pretty much lose nothing as there is massive re-sale value. If he does work out, it's a big win for us.

Seems pretty straight forward.

Apparently ballotelli held a farewell party last night, if you believe the rumours that have surfaced today. That story also quoted £17m to Milan, surely would sell for more than that.
