I'd much prefer Ronaldo over Bale.
Right now Ronaldo is a bit better but Bale is 5 years younger and I'd rather see us invest in him. Although it's a bit painful to think we could have had him for 5mil a few years ago.
Besides we will get CR7 on a free in a couple of years time ;)

ronaldo is not a bit better than bale

he's a lot better than bale. once bale puts together 4-5 years of top class football then maybe it can be a bit close.

Bale had like a tour through Old Trafford before deciding to join Tottenham, i'm pretty sure he made that decision because he thought he wouldn't get any game time at Man United. That's what i've heard and read anyway.

He may sneak into the team ahead of Valencia these days ;). It really depends on how much we have to spend and we won't find out until the off-season. Personally I would like to sell Valencia(10mil) and use it and more funds to buy a quality CM. Carrick isn't getting any younger and we can sell Ando(10mil) if need be. The money from the sales of Ando and Valencia could be used to buy someone like Isco or Eriksen. Our wingers are fine with Young, Nani, Kagawa and now Welbeck who is primarily used in that role. Scholes is retiring as well so another CM is vital!!
Imo if we get Lewondowki we can put Rooney into CM to help at times as well because we will have an overflow of strikers

Why don't we buy Bale and Ronaldo, would only cost us 20 million plus Hernandez and Nani.
Deal goes through.... Bigfooty football board are all...

Ben Smith of the BBC has echoed Tony Barrett of The Times and has said that Ashley Williams, Stefan de Vrij, Hatem Ben Arfa, Christian Eriksen and Lazar Markovic are all being regularly watched by LFC scouts.

Think we'll see 3, maybe 4 new players come in during the summer window consisting of a CB, a CM/#10 and a wide forward and going from what Rodgers recently said about our scouting we're probably looking at 3+ possible options for each of those positions.
Do you have a link for the BBC article?

Mike Ashley (our owner) was apparently in the stands watching Aubameyang against PSG on the weekend. We need another striker and he'd be a great capture for us though he has a lot of interested suitors.

I will probably get slated for this but....

Realistically,

Lets say United offer whatever crazy amount Tottenham suggest for Bale, 70 Million for example. What exactly is the difference between him going to United and Real Madrid?

If sold to Real Madrid Bale will have no bearing on Tottenham's domestic campaign.

If sold to Manchester United, Tottenham aren't competing for the league title (yet) so Manchester United aren't their direct threat. They only play United twice in the year, so that's 6 possible points they could lose directly because of Bale playing against them.

On the other hand, strengthening United directly affects those teams around Tottenham. It makes United that much stronger and more likely to take points off Tottenham's direct rivals for places 3,4,5,6 etc etc. Everton, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool etc that's at least 24 points he could affect directly in favour of Tottenham.

Tottenham are more than Bale away from winning the league. With that kind of money, if invested smartly, they could make the next step and become legitimate challenges against Manchester United.

I'm not saying it's the best option and it would probably never happen, its just not always the evil it seems to be.

Tottenham just hate selling star players to rival PL clubs, Modric was a clear example. I just can't see Tottenham entertaining the idea of Bale joining Man United, we certainly won't be the only team after him, you can be sure Madrid, Barca, City, Bayern etc will all be after his signature, and all those clubs can outbid us.

We'd have to offer Spurs players + cash, something like Nani + Hernandez + 50m.

or he doesnt leave tottenham. he doesnt seem in a hurry, but that never seems to be brought up.

can only see him moving to madrid if ronaldo leaves. dont think he will, therefore madrid arent going to invest heavily in him. if united come calling, they dont have 70 million, no one club does, and would have to shift about 3-4 guys to raise that. they might be able to do that. but levy wont sell to them, he wont sell to us, chelsea, arsenal, so it's a moot point.

Ronaldo > Man United
Bale > Real Madrid

:p one can dream
