spanish footballers are required by law to have a minimum release clause.

I heard the other day that it's the opposite in English football, they're not allowed to insert release clauses into players contracts. Could very well be true, can anyone think of an example of a player leaving an English club because a release clause had been met?

Yep, Demba is probably the most recent and high profile that comes to mind.

Wouldn't be surprised if many lower league clubs put such clauses on contracts for their young academy players - so if they produce a special talent, they are protected from being poached by the bigger teams above them.

I believe Remy (and wouldn't be surprised if many of the QPR players) has a minimum fee release clause in case they are relegated - we were linked to him again (in the event of their seemingly increasingly likely relegation) but given his snub in January and his massive wages (reportedly $100k plus a week), doubt we will have any interest in him).

Also, think Diame at West Ham was reported to have a minimum fee release clause of about 4m IIRC - there was some rumours Arsenal were going to activate the clause in January.

He looks like Adel Taarabt's fatter, untalented brother.

An ideal trade:

Mats Hummels to Barca to partner Pique in centre defense and a good replacement for the ageing Puyol

I want Unitd to go hard for Hummels, will never happen though but would be a great signing.

Instead we are getting linked with more strikers.

Pretty sure Fellani's got one too.

None of them are actually English though...

Could it be that English players may not have release clauses, however foreign players at English clubs may?

release clauses in england as a whole are rare. they're pretty much used as a tool to get players at clubs possibly considered below them (however unfair that may be), and gives them a get out of jail free basically. most are below market value.

i can't think of any english players having release fees, probably because not many of them actually leave england really. the release clause is there to entice those from overseas as well.

Citeh to slap a 15mil price tag on Liverpool traget Richards!!

No chance. Besides, Martin Kelly is for all intents and purposes an exact replica of Richards, we also have Wisdom who is developing into a more than adequate squad depth option at CB/RB. If anything we need a straight CB or one who can also play LB, I don't buy into these rumours at all.

The special one is going to bring ronaldo, benzema, ozil, Ramos and cassillas with him to Chelsea
