Melbourne ...HELLO i mean how easy?
Well i have just got this off the afl website and let me say this, i am not happy. not happy with one person here and that is David Schwarz. the fact that he dragged it on for so long and then this comes out. i think there will be some explaining tonite on the footy show when he appears.

"Face it, joke's on you now Ox

THAT pie-in-the-face stunt involving Melbourne's David Schwarz on The Footy Show a week ago was just that -- a stunt.

According to a well-placed Melbourne source, insiders at the Nine Network said the charade was so well-orchestrated that Schwarz had to make sure Newman fell in a certain direction on the set.

The practical joke was hatched between Schwarz and his friend and Footy Show assistant producer, Ralph Horowitz, also known as ''Racetrack Ralphie''.

''Racetrack'' is a Melbourne devotee and a good friend of Schwarz.

And haven't they proved themselves to be a right couple of wags.

By catering for the lowest common denominator, The Footy Show has become one of the most successful programs in Australian television history. (And let's face it, beside Big Brother et al, it shapes as a classic).

But it can always do with a nudge in the ratings, and Schwarz is a bit of an amateur psychologist in his own right.

The sight of him being physically assaulted with the cream pie on television would lift his team-mates to new heights as they responded with a superb victory against Brisbane at the Gabba.

And why wouldn't they?

It would complement no end Schwarz's stinging criticism of them on a Melbourne radio station on the morning of The Footy Show.

Pity about those poor deluded Demon fans who went into bat for Schwarz over what they perceived as abhorrent treatment of him by Newman.

Pity, too, that the club's chief executive, John Anderson, issued a statement decrying the heinous act perpetrated on Schwarz. Not to mention AFL Players Association boss Rob Kerr's concern at the treatment of Schwarz.

Or the fact that his peers -- the other members of the Melbourne team -- were seething at his remarks on radio."

I think David owes everyone an apologise, including teammates and SUPPORTERS who backed him throughout all this cos we thought he was the victim. if this was a set up i have lost a lot of respect for a man that for so many years i have thought of as a role model. shame shame shame   :(

It begs the question - if David Schwarz knew how to keep his mouth shut, how much less turmoil would there have been at Melbourne this year?

It's a bit of sensationalism in the article suggesting that Schwarz's "coconut" jibe on Murphy eventually got Gutnick to resign (ie - Gutnick spoke out, incurring the wrath of the AFL, and casuing board members to form factions against Gutnick). Gutnick is his own man, and spoke out (leaping to Schwarz's defence) off his own bat, but it doesn't change the fact that Schwarz has not toned down his shoot from the hip attitude, which got him into trouble on that occasion. That would be the biggest worry out of all this, on top of the fact that it was HE who drew even more media attention to Melbourne's form slump, if the "stunt" story is correct (a view gaining more credence by the minute).

The coaching staff are best qualified to decide what approach to take after a severe defeat, and it's probably not a good idea for a fairly high-profile player to draw more attention to the form slump.

As much as the above article does sensationalise, Schwarz's spot on the Melbourne list next year is far from safe, considering he did lose the vice captaincy in the pre-season and this is the third time he has been involved in negative publicity because of his own deeds (after the "coconut" jibe, and the Ben Graham comments).

I think the club has done the right thing in making sure he is unavailable for media commitments for the short term - a bit of peace and quiet might get the public's mind off the Demons' troubled season and Schwarz the media personality, and instead, back to hearing about Schwarz's deeds as a footballer of class and ability.

i agree Darky and i was going to quote you but then u wrote to much so ill just say here here. the reason i posted this, is cos i wanna know if anyone else knows something on here, cos all i am gettting is the info from the websites and that. we get nothing over here in the media for obvious reasons. oh well i betta go and watch the footy show to find out what the hell is going on.

Well if you watched yesterday's show you'd know that Schwarta knew nothing about the pie and neither did Eddie.
Sam told Oxy he'll have a go at him and he said it was ok by him but he NEVER mentioned what he was planning on doing.

So there you go... it wasn't a stunt and neither Eddie or David knew anything about it.

GO DEES! :)

All I will say is thank God the Ox has been banned from the media for a while. We may actually stay off the front and back page for a change.
