Hawks are running this over the next 11 days. They've done 25-11, can we guess the order of the top 10 based on the rules at the bottom of the article and who has come so far?

Here at Hawthorn, we understand that AFL is a team game. Each player, coach and official is but a cog in the wheel of a well-oiled machine, chugging towards success.

But over the next 11 days, we’re forgetting about the team achievements and throwing the spotlight on individuals.

Here’s the question; which Hawk has the most impressive trophy case of all time?

Each accolade has been given a weighting (see bottom of page), and the numbers have been crunched to see who comes out on top.

The table they are using to determine points

Doing the maths in my head I don’t see how Tucky can overtake Lethal - the AFL Legend status and AFL Team of the Century points will help get him over Tucky’s superior games, premierships and years as captain points totals.

Does this count?

Why is a premiership only worth 5pts? I would have thought it would be the most valuable trophy. Having it worth almost half as much as a best & fairest, or a Coleman, rising star or an all Australian is just weird. Kind undermines the whole exercise to me.

I agree with you that a premiership win is the ultimate, and needs a better reward. A premiership is what we strive for, and it beats any individual award.
On the other hand, we have played in lots of them and there are several players who have fluked a premiership win over the years.

Maybe we double the points for Norm Smith and give extra points for the best 5 players in a premiership win?

I think the point is the individual trophy cabinet. Hence the lower value for premierships. We all know we play for them ultimately. This is a bit of off-season fun.
That's my view. This is getting at the fact that playing in a flag requires a good to great team, obviously you have to be a good enough player to play in a flag but there are plenty of great players who never did and would have walked into other clubs premiership teams.

Add to that we need a way to grade all those multiple premiership players and individual accolades is one way.

Well as a very simple comparison some guy who has won a club Best and Fairest (9pts), an All Australian(9pts) and a Coleman(9pts) for one good season could rank higher than a bloke who had won 5 premierships (5pts) over the course of his career. Im pretty sure that doesn't make any sense.

Did you read the article? Quotes from it as below.

(Explanation as to why premierships gain you points) Despite being a team achievement, we felt it was important to still include premierships, but with considerable less weighting than other individual achievements.

Let’s look at it this way - Birchall and Matthews both have four premierships each. Do you think they’re going to build a statue of Birch outside the MCG any time soon?

No I didn't but I also consider a premiership medal to be a team award and an individual award. You win it as a team but you own the medal as an individual. And its the best award you can win by a long way. If your going to try to do something like this you may as well just not include premiership in the criteria. Either that or give them the proper rating the deserve (which is basically double the next award which is probably norm smith or brownlow).

No. Seriously - the rationale for the entire thing is to celebrate individual success. If that’s the metric then of course they are going to give higher weightings to solely individual awards, with the weighting favouring the awards that are rarer to hold - such as the legend status.

The way you’re talking - you are comparing the individual effort of somebody winning a Brownlow or kicking the most goals in a season to the effort of Jonathon Simpkin in the 4th quarter of the 2013 grand final.

I don’t disagree that winning a premiership is in some way an individual award - but in the metrics of what the Hawks social media team are trying to demonstrate it certainly doesn’t warrant a higher weighting.

I would rather be Jonathan Simpkin than Brendan Fevola or even Scott West.
