true but at least we can recognise it where we see it now rather than persist with self delusion.

actually you admitted yourself we are far more realistic of where we are at...we need to improve, no doubt

you guys
the umpires are against us
the AFL is against us
the media is against us
The MRP is against us

But my favorite..The AFL favors the Eagles..lol

And back on topic yeah its annoying when the umps aren't gifting us momentum but the boys need to learn to rise above it.
I think the umps are fine, sure they get calls wrong but its just part of the game.
And not sure about this match fixing business i doubt it happens

Firstly - spell check is available.

Secondly - WC poster claiming WC supporters more realistic... :$:drunk::thumbsu:

You were better than us last night, however you can not say that was well umpired, sam mitchell gets an arm pinged throws the ball and nothing, and the first 40 seconds yeo was gone inside our 50, just two off the top of the head, there is no doubt you have a distinct advantage with the whistle.

Interesting that two of the stupider Eagles fans ( I know right? How low can they go?) have decided to post on this thread.
I posted the statistical analysis that proved that the Eagles are treated differently to all other teams in the AFL. It's not because of how they play ( though having Mr Flappy as an assistant coach may help) or because of their militant fans. It's because of a marked and persistent umpiring bias, particularly at home.

The good thing about the soft and one sided umpiring is that when the Eagles play important games away they won't have their tame umpires determining the game for them. They are doomed, especially when their star 30 year olds retire.

They're just marking time while Kennedy and Priddis go over the hill. No threat to the comp overall, and have a scarily bare cupboard from recent years of poor trading and draft picks.

didnt we beat you in the ressies as well...with a very long injury list ?

Ask yourself: What would it look like if it happened?
If the AFL isn't making plans to stop match fixing, it will happen if it hasn't already. There's too much money involved for it not to happen.

Is there any way to find out goals from umpiring decisions? The same way they record goals from stoppages, turnovers etc.. this is where I think the eagles will really dominate. I was watching the game with some very one eyed eagles supporters last night and even they were laughing at the poor umpiring

Flashback to Adelaide v Western Bulldogs last season.
Close game all night, WB's kicked a couple of late goals to win the game.

Free kick count: Adelaide 12, WB's 28.
Umpire Pannell (played junior footy in Hoppers Crossing (WB stronghold), began umpiring in Footscray district) awarded WB's 17 free kicks to Adelaide's one. Don Pyke asked AFL for a 'please explain'. AFL found one or two incorrect decisions (normal for any AFL game), no further action required.

That's the one I was thinking of. 17-1 is even worse then the top of my head 11-0 I thought it was.

17-1! Hahahaha, it's like they're not even trying to hide it.

Umpiring inconsistency is no doubt a blight on the game. It is partly influenced by incompetence/lack of professionalism and training, and partly influenced by what are no doubt instructions given to watch out for certain players or certain teams that are doing x.y.z. It has nothing to do with AFL corruption or predetermined outcomes in games.
It's embarrassing how many people we have on here that believe the latter nonetheless. A couple of them are complete crackpots that I am not allowed to call out because I get infraction points for doing so. But most of you are otherwise sane people - I don't get it.

I think that is where it falls down there isn't that much money bet on AFL matches it pales in comparison to horses soccer cricket etc

Horses, soccer and cricket have all been fixed to benefit betting syndicates.
The AFL is becoming dependent on the advertising money from bookmakers. Gamblers are placing bigger and bigger bets on. They don't have the appetite to stand up to the betting industry.

The easiest method of fixing an AFL game would be by getting an umpire to umpire unfairly, especially at critical times of a game, such as in the first or last quarter or to change the momentum of a game.

There must be a statistical way to look for anomalies in umpiring performance.

Almost all my mates are eagles supporters. All of them agree you get kissed on the dick by the umps. I even have eagle supporter mates who don't mind Freo. They all say we seem to cop a raw deal regularly.

I dont think the bookies would put up with it they are the ones that make the money.

Unless your implying its the bookies swinging games in there favour acourding to what there worst pay days are? In which case they are mathematicians they dont need to fix matches which is why they have the best tipping ratio, they make money without having to fix and wouldn't jeopardize a multi million dollar business to do so. Now seeing how good they are at tipping you could assume they analyse all umps players grounds coaches etc and tip accordingly.

Is there underground AFL betting?

Im not saying it couldn't happen just think its very unlikely and a few calls against a good team like Adelaide etc wouldn't effect the outcome of the game

How do you prove that it's nothing to do with AFL corruption or predetermined outcomes in games? Who is making sure that the game is fair?

I like the umpires adviser. He gets on to chat about a few decisions every week and I have no doubts about his integrity. I have known three WAFL umpires quite well and I have no doubts as to their integrity.

But I think the systems that the AFL have set in place do not protect the integrity of the game sufficiently.

The statistical analysis that I linked on page 1 should have sent alarm bells ringing across the industry. West Coast get a consistent and unfair advantage at home. We all know about Leigh Fisher's record umpiring Ross Lyon coached games. How come the AFL allow him to umpire Fremantle games? I know the umpires coaches concentrate on making sure they don't give incorrect frees, but there appears to be little or no emphasis on the number of missed frees.

I think the answer is to spend more money on the umpiring department. Make it a full time occupation that pays as well as the average AFL player. Use data to improve the rate of correct decision making and do what you can to encourage good umpires to make a career out of umpiring. And avoid any hint of bias by keeping them from umpiring games with a perceived conflict of interest.
