Faith No More acknowledged the pointlessness of virtue signalling decades before millennials made a sport of it.
Like it's not "virtue-signalling" when RWers make a big song and dance about how much they love the flag or the anthem.

Or when Trump tells everyone how much he loves the bible?

Look at Trump. He's just loves the flag so much! And wants everyone to know it! But nah, he's not signalling anything, is he?

... well it's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it!

Great song, I think it takes aim at everyone and fake sincerity. This exists now (billion dollar corporations trying to appear woke by supporting trendy causes, religious idiots in general).

If only we had social media records of every random thought that popped into peoples heads back in the 80s and 90s like we do now, how would of that changed history?

A band which I know very little about. What were some of their big hits? I have noticed 80’s music has experienced some what of a renaissance of late.

Fatih No More achieved their most success when they got their next lead singer in Mike Patton, had a solid run of hits from 89 to 97.

Epic, Easy (Commodores cover), Evidence, Falling To Pieces, Ashes To Ashes and Midlife Crisis are some of their radio staples from back in the day.

It will be reflected upon as one of the better decades for music. Simple minds, U2, Dire Straits, Midnight Oil etc.

Could go on and on and on really. That is just the more rock line of things above (though early simple minds more new wavey).

But factor in metal, indie rock, post punk, hip hop starting out, mega pop stars, synth pop, beginnings of house music etc was really something for everyone (made better in hindsight by the fact we can access all of it without relying on radio).

Music simply doesn’t have the same cut through anymore on a mass level, still excellent music being made, though you have to dig for it, we live in the era of the niche (everyone can have their own reality of what music is popular).

That’s probably why I never got into them, my taste in music started diverging from mainstream music at the end of the 1980’s.

They would of got a fair bit of play on your triple J’s of the world in the 90s too.

They touched on a fair few genres, I guess roughly classified as alternative metal, with good pop instincts and bit of funkyness as well.

I was listening more to 3rrr and 3pbs by then. Particularly blues programs like son of Crawdaddy. Some great blues gigs around town in those days too; Phil Para, Geoff Acheson, Chris Wilson and Paramount trio to name a few.

Gee it seems Mike Patton has redeemed himself. He was the part of the Satanic Antichrist cabal a few years ago thanks to his melting Trump and the dig up of Mr Bungle's Travolta (Cuz he's Hitler & Swayze & Trump & Travolta).

Reagan tweeting while his brain melts into mush would've been the closest spectacle we could've asked for matching Trump's chaotic bisexual Gemini spirit.

The year before was my best year for music of the 1980s, but '85 is pretty good too. The Jesus & Mary Chain, Tom Waits, Kate Bush, The Pogues, Prefab Sprout, Husker Du, The Replacements, New Order, The Fall, Dire Straits, The Cure, The Smiths, LL Cool J, Tears for Fears, REM, Sting, Prince, Talking Heads, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Eurythmics, Simple Minds, Run-DMC, Aretha Franklin, INXS - just great acts putting out some great s**t.

Redeemed himself with FK? Well this FNM song was Chuck Mosley era, maybe FK only likes first 2 FHM albums before the evil woke Patton took over.

Of course, the evil woke Patton takeover. It took 32 years to fully play out, but finally come through for the masses to see. :drunk:

You haven’t missed much of the great artists bringing out great albums from 85, I’ll try and add some more:

Scritti Politti
The Chameleons
The Cult
Sisters Of Mercy
The Waterboys
Killing Joke
Sade
Bryan Ferry
Arcadia (Duran Duran side project)
Propaganda
Clan of Xymox
Skinny Puppy
Red Lorry Yellow Lorry

Worth mentioning Husker Du brought out 2 albums in 85 as well.

Played the very long game.

Though without checking I am about 99.99999999% positive Mike has always been more left leaning.

Unless Epic was about socialist wanting it all but not being able to have it, cos they’re just jealous of the 1%
