AA vs AK....I was pretty happy till the flop came Q J X....a bit nervous....turn X....feeling pretty safe....river 10....ouch.

Later on I get AA again, a guy raises, I re-raise, so he moved all in. I was expecting a similar scenario, me dominating an Ace or QQ/KK. What I didn't expect was 5 4 off suit. Nor did I expect to see a 5 on the flop, then another 5 on the turn.

I can't believe some people do that with their own money that they've earnt....confuses me personally.

I can handle it if the other guy should have his chips in there. AA vs KK is unavoidable, the chips will always end up in the pot.

Getting cracked by 5 4 though is just not on.

This is the type of quality I was up against on my final table tonight. And yet I couldn't beat it.

WTF????

I may be missing something, but the hand above looks pretty standard to me.

Grim checking the turn is a bit WTF?

Betting that turn is awful.

He's got a straight flush - dens either has a nutflush in which case grim is indifferent to bet/check, or he has a 4th-nut flush at best, in which case he's unlikely to pay off for much more than he did on the river any way.

The only questionable play is dens' flop call, but it's certainly correct against some opponents.

Sorry Virgil, but agree that betting that turn is awful.

The play I have a problem with is that there is no way grim is raising him on that flop and then betting the river without any form of club in his hand. What can dens beat after the hand has been played the way it did? What's grim representing? 95% of the time he's not going to be firing back a raise on that flop with complete air (especially seeing how he wasn't the pre-flop aggressor - just flat called pre-flop) he is more often than not representing a bigger king or a flush draw. Both of these hands would likely check behind on the turn, but a bare king is never going to value bet that river...clearly had to of been a flush. Well that's my view on it anyways. Should have probably posted the stack sizes as well. They weren't very deep. Dens lost about 3/4+ of his stack on this hand. The bet on the river not only screams value bet, but it was also for about 1/3 of dens remaining chips IIRC.

If this is true, then it's certainly a WTF hand both on the flop and the turn. And I'm happy to defer to you given it's a SNG/MTT and I haven't played one since about 2007. :D

But in cash games, a LAG could definitely re-raise the flop with any pair + no draw, as well as complete air. Also, I think a hand like KQ/KJ must bluff the river, since what was once possibly a good hand, now has very little shot of winning at showdown.

Bad beats are just part of the game... everyone plays differently.

And if a bad beat hurts you financially then you are under bankrolled for the game. Move down some levels and take the good with the bad!.
Dont agree with you there. Bankroll isnt he problem but hurting me finacially with bad beats is. You can grind away for an hour and then lose all you have built up and some by some donkey donk donk because their 33 is always going to beat your two pair on the river. Been playing cash and s&g poker for a couple of weeks with my cash table loses being funded by my s&g winnings. Only play small buy in s&g and much prefer to put my $5 on a double up table rather than a 2c/4c cash table.
Played for 2 hours last night no cash tables.
6th 50 person $2 s&g to finish just out of the money. 77 with a K7x flop got crushed by KQ with 3 players all in. Turn K, River K. OMFG.
1st 6 person $5 sit and go.
Won and lost a few double up s&g's. Couple of crushing bust outs on the bubble.
Finished $30+ up of the night. Cant see I could make that sort of profit on the cash tables so I'll stick with the s&g's for a while.

Sick of players going on how online games are rigged because of bad beats. Seems most tables have a player who loses chips to bad beats and then go on how badly rigged online games are.:thumbsd:

You have got to be kidding me! Stupid ****ing pokerstars and having to wait forever for people to make a move then get shit like this all the time.

How likely is it that dens would have an 8 or lower though? If he had a low pair I don't there's much chance of a pay off anyway. There's only any real chance of making any money from this hand if he has the Ace or a set, and I wouldn't mind betting against either here.

Oh well, I'll just stick to my play money tables :).

Betting the turn small against a set is certainly sensible, but a set would surely shove the flop? Might be different in tourneys though.

Helps if you squish some ants:p

Bring me up to speed Cartman, I'm obviously not in the loop on this one.

There is a video on xtranormal.videos i think it's called. Where people make their own videos, was posted here on BF a few weeks ago. One of the lines was "I was so flipping angry I went outside and squished some flipping ants". Much funnier when you watch it, anyone got the link? I had it on my old laptop.

LOL. I've seen that before but I didn't remember the reference to ant squishing.

Next time I'm going to go outside and napalm a whole nest of meat ants with 2 stroke.

While I'm in the vent thread I may as well rant about people who think the time clock is their god given right to squander everybody else's time. Its not bloody compulsory to use up the whole clock. I hate it when you know somebody is going to fold, the time clock runs down and folds their hand, putting them into sitout, and then the next instant they're back. What's up with that? Have the balls to make a decision and don't let the time clock do it for you.

Could be, and probably are, multi-tabling.

Only a person with the ethics of the resident clown on here would do that on purpose.

More of the same crap on PokerStars. Geez I'm having a shit of a run on that site.

This time I was playing a tourney and wasn't getting a lot of playable hands. I'm finally left with 9xBB and get A8 OTB. Only one caller before me, I push. Blinds fold and original caller risks nearly half his stack to challenge with 8Ts. (I fist pump so hard I nearly break my hand on my old CRT monitor). Flop AJQ, I think to myself "don't you ****ing dare put a king out there". I only had to wait for the turn.
