I remember Todd Banfield was an excitement machine.
Jared has a lot to prove, and if he does, good luck to him. At this stage, however, he's just being ignored in opposition teams' plans, I'd say.

Some people just perform better being around a familiar environment.
And if that environment is a shithole like Port Adelaide, fine by me. We'll still beat them when the time comes, and I would change my picture to Polec if a Lion smashes his face to the ground.

Every good performance is still a painful reminder though.
I'm not too concerned about Polec punishing us.
He's had one game for Port and 1 good quarter. The question was never whether he could play well, it is why he never bothered.
Have another look at him at the end of the year, or even mid way through next year and see if he has had the commitment to keep it up.
Braddddd Dalziel had an exciting year at the Lions, as did Des Headland. Rhan Hooper anyone?

Thanks skoob ,I hope your right , I believe the universe will sort itself out and this piece of dirt has a reminder of what it is to appreciate opportunity and talent and loyalty, because this guy at the moment shits me, and he DOESN'T deserve the Lions best wishes at all f..k him. At least Yeo made a friggan effort for us this prick just had a bludge up here knowing full well he would get an opportunity elsewhere. OK here we go - IMHO, our media dept is useless. I understand there is a lot of love for Steel Talon, not sure exactly why, but since he has taken over.. we get 3-4 fairly generic and weak articles bunched together every 3 days. Over the weekend, when there was a spike in apetite for football due to an exiting opening to the split round, there was not one post on the website, I went there 15 times wanting to read about our Boys.. and nothing. Also - the membership drive has been weak, Leigh Matthews came out and tweeted once about signing up a a friend or family member, I can re-call that created a fantastic little bounce in promotion of the importance of our membership numbers, I remember telling Dad to go and tell a work mate to sign up, which he did. But since then.... nothing. Leigh should have had his arms folded on banners and adverts everywhere saying "Sign yourself up and a Friend" and "We need 30K members in 2014"... but instead.. nothing. I work in marketing and media myself and I find the club basically just 'does enough' and while this is the way we operate, things won't change for us off field.
I think ST is still getting comfortable in his role ... but compared to last year he's doing a much better job I feel.
Definitely still room for improvement, however, and I'm sure he'll have a good system of what's required pretty soon.

- Alot of the players were interstate visiting family for the last time before season starts.
Did you want him to just make something up?

This exactly. If this wasn't the vent thread I'd be tempted to tell you how brilliant that one line was...
Now I just have to rant about what a useless loser polec was and how well be lost without him and the rest of the star studded talent we lost and now how we are destined to finish behind Melbourne and St kilda... or I could quote an Age or Herald Sun article and save myself the effort

I don't think there should be needing to make something up the eve of a brand new season, you are telling me there is nothing to write about for 48 hours on a busy weekend in the lead up to the season opener? The media dept would be forced to make something up?... ok well there's our problem then. It is not only this weekend, it has been several times over the last 3 months where there is nothing on the website for 3 days, then there is 4 articles in an hour.. it is a terrible way to upload info, half of it goes un-read. Media 101 is you put out an article and let in marinate for 4 hours then do the next later so people digest the info properly.. IMO that means someone drops in a few hours a week on a couple of occasions and does a bulk upload.
Do you have any thoughts on our membership drive? do you feel given our dire financial position it has been ok?

It's possible - I will happily stand corrected on this but the involvement of Telstra in the AFL and club sites adds a layer of complication
It's a difficult one. I'm not convinced the required spend on a major membership campaign would deliver enough new members to justify it given our position.

Might be too simplistic, but I reckon there's no great mystery with Polec. Due mostly to injuries he was never fit enough at Brisbane to play out four quarters. He went to Port, had an uninterrupted pre-season, and now is fit enough.
Maybe there was stuff Port did to manage his fitness that we didn't do, but just as likely it was sheer dumb luck. I'm sure it doesn't hurt that Jared is now three years older and hopefully wiser. By all accounts he's a bit of a strange guy. Might need his environment to be exactly right before he gets the best out of himself.
To be frank, I don't have to look too hard to find examples of things Vossy didn't get right. I can't justify Polec being one of those examples.

He was injured a lot - I think that's probably the primary reason he wasn't up to scratch. Then there's also this alleged attitude issue he had up here. If I were Vossy, I would've given him a stern talking to and not played him until that changed too.

It's all a rich tapestry. His attitude also would have lengthened his injury time through poor rehab and recovery work. He did have some abnormally long injury times.
If that's the case, why didn't the media department make that more clear?
It really should have been used in last year's media drive.
