Out of curiosity, why on earth is Polks being written off as a spud of a player. I'd get it if he were 32, but, he'd be lucky to be 25 wouldn't he?

Sure he is no Tom Rockliff, but he's not Sam Sheldon either. Yes, he is inconsistent, but even at his average best, he is a mature body that surely would offer more than these kids.

I would have giggled but I was too depressed.

I think I will just forget this game and pretend the only thing that happened this weekend is that little Nat got to meet the Lions players and they were really lovely to her. Plus she ditched Carlton forever. That makes me smile.

My vent is that I am still staggered as to how bad we were 24 hours later.

My vent is also that to actually bother to name individuals that played poorly as if they alone were to blame for that poor performance is missing the point considering that we selected a team with no chance of being competitive in the first place.

My vent is that yes we do have a rookie coach and I am not going to hang him for it but if he make this kind of rookie error again I will be venting again and I do not like to vent! If I am forced to vent it will be because I will then think we are throwing in the towel and that means the T word to me this early in the season.

Sad to see how far our once mighty club has fallen. Less than a decade ago we were getting the wins on the board for our tilt at 4 premierships in a row!!! Let that sink in for a moment; trying for 4 premierships in a row . Now we can't even win a quarter in the first 4 rounds

To suggest we are at the same levels of despair as the Lions & Bears of the early 90's is not unreasonable; yet it seems, as a club, we are powerless to do anything about it. As always, it all comes down to ca$h - something we simply do not have enough of to mix it with the best in the AFL.

I feel sorry for the players who have to go out there and try & win games of footy without the proper coaching, guidance, mentoring, facilities etc. We are akin to a semi-professional club (at best) trying to keep up with the best, but needing to skimp on every dollar to do so. In the end, quality wins out.

Our list of youngsters (23/U) is actually OK in my opinion, but there needs to be more invested into them quick-smart or they'll end up like the mediocre bunch of 'senior' players we have currently.

For 2014, I can see no more than 4 wins (St.Kilda, GWS, Melbourne, GC) at best; we may as well really bottom out and get the #1 draft pick and start fresh in 2015 with a fit and firing list with a sparkling new Centre Half Forward to boot

Good post Panthera ... the concern I have in respect of the quoted part is a guy like James Aish must look at Adelaide and Port and everything they have in place both on and off field and think why bother staying at a club in our position.

The positive (wrong thread I know) is that a lot of guys like Mayes, Rockliff et al have re-committed in spite of all of this and if Aish does re-sign, my level of respect for the kid will grow ten fold.

I think the AFL need to look at the fixture. It is a disgrace.

I hear all of these teams whinging and moaning about the draw, but I have just had a look at it.

From now to the end of the season, we only play teams above us on the ladder as at now….. How the hell is that supposed to help us?

I am over this.
