I think the AFL need to look at the fixture. It is a disgrace.

I hear all of these teams whinging and moaning about the draw, but I have just had a look at it.

From now to the end of the season, we only play teams above us on the ladder as at now….. How the hell is that supposed to help us?

I am over this.

My half full glass just hit the dirt and broke.

And bloody Hawthorn only play teams that are below them on the ladder.....for the rest of this season.

It's @#$%!!^%!! rigged I tell yas.

Exactly… Rigged!!!

How did it take us so long to realise??

It doesn't even matter anymore, we have no form and we would only get our butts kicked by the lower placed teams.

My vent is people going back and forth on the Vent thread. Just deleted multiple pages of it again.

Edit: and then the first post after this one was similar. If you're quoting a post, agreement only. If you want to discuss a point, new thread.

Someone on flight QF656 last night had the flu. How do I know this? Because I now have it.

 :(

Good post Panthera ... the concern I have in respect of the quoted part is a guy like James Aish must look at Adelaide and Port and everything they have in place both on and off field and think why bother staying at a club in our position.

The positive (wrong thread I know) is that a lot of guys like Mayes, Rockliff et al have re-committed in spite of all of this and if Aish does re-sign, my level of respect for the kid will grow ten fold.

The stronger kids will see it as a challenge; can't think of too many players leaving us and having outstanding careers / winning premierships though. Buckley ticks the first box but not the second. Henderson doing ok at Carlton, Polec will be a jet at Port (as most expected). The other 4 will more than likely end up somewhere between a Mitch Clark & Des Headland career.

No doubt that Port & Adelaide would have already been in James' management ear about not signing a contract extension too early and weighing up their respective clubs in 2 years time - sadly, we don't stack up at all.

The Go Home 5 may hurt us more at the negotiation table in the coming years rather than on field; it's unlikely that we're going to be able to secure all our young talent moving forward...and with a senior core severely lacking, I'd say we may lose up to 50% of the youngsters we want to keep. It may end up being a vicious cycle of 2 - 3 year players leaving us and our supporters getting excited about draft picks that will end up repeating the precedent that has now been set.

Looking at our over 27's right now, it's average at best: Brown, McGrath, Moloney, Staker, Maguire, Patfull, Merrett, Adcock, Raines, Martin & McGuane. Most are now injury prone and well past their best (or never really made it)...

Unfortunately, we're now an irrelevant feeder club that is unable to attract top end talent on or off the field (apart from glory years ex. Lions).

Sometimes i wish life was a movie.. You see, this is the moment where we are down and out and then a miracle happens

Our all star team from 2002 comes down to cheer us on and we gain the courage to overcome richmond on thursday spurring a confidence boost in our team, which gives us a 18 game winning streak which places us firmly in the 8 and we go on to the win the grand final.

My vent is this:

Two weeks in a row my wife has been kind enough to take the young bloke out somewhere so I can enjoy a few cold brews and watch the game uninterrupted. But two weeks in a row I've been dished up performances so insipid that they've made me consume two fine brews much faster, and with far less enjoyment and appreciation, than they were entitled to.

I'm thinking of places we can go instead of Arizona at the end of the year. Arizona seems to produce stuff all.

Am thinking Armadale or Arana Hills. Ayers Rock maybe. Ayr would fit too, just call it Ayr-izona and no-one'll notice.

Could people please make sure that when they are on the vent thread the are actually venting.

Here is an example:

My vent is that Justin Leppitsch seems to have conceded season 2014 before it has even got under way. His failure to select players with senior experience like Raines, Polkinghorne and Maguire, presumably on the basis that he doesn't see them as playing any part in our future success, means that this year is basically going to be like one long preseason. In essence as fans we are going to have to accept that Leppitsch will not be selecting the best possible team out of the pool of available players in order to win games, but will be giving senior games to some players in order to give them experience. Four games in, we are on the bottom of the ladder, having not won a quarter of football and with little prospect of a win on the horizon. The problem is that if fans conclude the coach isn't as interested in winning as he should be, then it is easy for them to not bother with the club this year or to to drop off completely. If we are really only going to get serious in 2015 / 2016, where is the incentive to turn up to games or even more importantly, buy a membership?

At least Vossie was trying to win games.

I have three vents.

1. I can't believe we have so many supporters who think that Leppa is content with us getting flogged by large margins.

2. The way that blokes like Polkinghorne can be crucified as King of the Spuds by some of our supporters one year, and painted as saviours the next year, and whose omission apparently is the difference between us winning games and winning the spoon.

3. We have more than our fair share of supporters who lack bottle. Disappointing. God help us if we were Melbourne or St Kilda coming off nearly half a century of disappointment.

"We can't stop here, this is spud country"

Polks is a spud but compared to the spuds we currently have in the team his spuddishness could not make us play more like a team of spuds.

That's as clear as I can make that point.

So what you are saying is that spuddishness is a relative quality? It may be possible to be a spud, but be less spudly than another spud?

So if we had a choice of playing Polkinghorne or, for example, a chicken, then we might have to think about it a bit, but we'd probably go with Polks.

It might depend on the chicken's beep test results though.

Supplementary Vent:

People seem to be making it all about Polkinghorne as a way of deflecting a little from the central point of the original vent. The season is four rounds old and we have not selected Polkinghorne (92 games), Raines (119 games) and Maguire (155 games), but are picking first year players / debutants. A couple of these players may turn out to be world beaters, who knows, but the question is, are they more likely to contribute to a win than some of the established and seasoned players who are not getting a run?

Worth noting that Polkinghorne and Raines were in our best players in the reserves last weekend.

Also worth noting that the game against Richmond will be one of the few Brisbane feature this season that will be broadcast "free to air." These games are hugely important in terms of building and maintaining our supporter and sponsorship base. Free to air television exposure is money in the bank and the big clubs know that. Winning a game like this is very important to a struggling club like Brisbane, which makes it even more important that Leppitsch actually selects a side that has the greatest chance of winning, utilising the best possible players he has at his disposal.

Another pathetic performance like the one we saw last weekend and we are going to start to really deserve the derision that is being heaped on us by the football world. The damage to membership in the Brisbane market will be significant, but just as significant will be the stay at home factor for Victorian based supporters like myself who are having to wait until Rd.9 to see the Lions play in Melbourne. If team selection is indicating that 2014 is simply about putting games into first and second year players, then for me attending games is far less important than it might otherwise be.

I reckon winning would become 100x more important to Leppa if he had to put up with the constant bullying I have to put up with every time the Lions lose.

It makes me angry, Leppa's safe in his little coaching box, the players are safe in their little Club, but us fans are the ones who will be attacked and bullied mercilessly and they don't care.

How the hell can I take Haso seriously anymore?

I don't know if he is...
  • thinking of the next whipping boy
  • being a whipping boy
  • or just looking like he is on drugs and combining both one & two?
Guess he's just trying to fit in with the majority of current posters now he's nolonger a mod.

/sarcastic rolly-eyes Grrrr!

Quoted for truth.

Our performances to date have actually been reasonable against the "good" teams and pathetic against the others,

That is how Fitzroy played every week for a long period of time. Win against the odds and get smashed by teams around us on the ladder.

I agree with your vent,it is a good one.
Hope I am doing it right.
But I am sick of all the negative vives too.Makes me want to vent !!!!!!

Dunno how this works. We get ribbed at work (and as a Lions fan in WA surrounded by bullish Docker and Eagles idiots I would argue I cop more than my share) and he gets hammered in the press, on websites and TV panel shows. He has his very career on the line and furthermore it's discussed on a daily basis all over the country. Think how many coaches open with a horror stretch and get a new job and a chance to turn it around. Not many.

I think Leppa is worrying about any number of things, and if he rocks up with an ashen expression and agrees we are stuffed - then where the hell do we go from there.

I used to work in a bank and had a bank manager who used to cry along with the clients whenever a sob story arose (and in the bank that's often). Not once though did they offer sensible advice to help. Every time they broke into tears of empathy I used to think "Well that's nice. But who does it help."

Be a professional. Keep a stiff upper lip. Get back to work helping people move forwards.

Oh. And my vent is to those who suggest he shouldn't get the chance to do just that. We hired Leppa for reasons beyond his playing career (I sincerely hope), we'd be nuts to sack him now on the back of a bad 'probationary period'.

When "ribbing at work" turns into every time I try to do something the game getting brought up, and my opinions being ignored in favour of giving me grief over the game, then yeah, I think I have something to complain about. And I'm willing to bet I'm not the only Lions fan this happens to.
