To be 100% fair, we got some pretty soft 50s in our favour. The difference was when we so desperately needed a break in the last corner, we got nothing but horrible calls.

Why bother teaching modern footballers to handball in close, when it's clearly acceptable to drop it and go again, or simply throw it?

We've had massive issues with clearances and our midfield in general for ages. Can't remember that last time we have actually dominated the clearances and takeaways in a game (may have been a couple Over the last 2 and a half seasons). When we win, its usually from breaking even in the middle and giving our defenders and forwards a chance.

Funny some have mentioned the sad fact that huddo has been our best clearance player, because there were times last year you could have said the same thing about Mitch Clark.

The criticism of Acorn and Banfield and Patful and McKeever and all those defenders that are forced to defend against the constant quick and unpressured ball coming into 50 (admittedly not in last nights game) and forwards that are constantly asked to mark balls against 2 defenders that are kicked high and haphazardly into the forward line will continue while our real weakness IMO is a midfield that is super inconsistent and seems to lack structure and any sort of plan at times. Our ruck division is quality and while you can't drop any of the Rs or Black i reckon a bit of a rethink is required for our stoppage setup. Wooey, Vossy and Charman are the blokes in charge of this and they've got to come up with something that will work with the cattle we've got in the short term and the long.

To be fair, we have improved since last year in this area and were missing our best mid (this year at least). A bit reactionary to suggest a sacking off one performance.

Agreed. While Black is awesome and clearly still one of the best on ground week in week out.. the problem is he's only in every second week with his knee problem. He might play next year but are we paying overs for someone who plays 50% of games?

A Dayne Beams type person should be brought in to help bolster the mid-field.. he's another Rockliff type in that he's young, only played a few years but has shown capability beyond his years. Can you imagine him when he's 25/26 with Redden/Rocky/Rich hunting for the ball?

Beams is staying with the Pies.

As for Black, I was also very worried about him being too important to the side at the start of the year, but the West Coast game showed me that's not the case. When our other guys are all playing, we are good enough without him. The only time we've played without him and been convincingly defeated this season was against Sydney, but a quick look at how they're going and it's no surprise really. Black is no longer the player we fall apart without, but it's nice to still have him.

We could have had 15 Key forwards. Point was, we won a clearance, got outmarked by 3 defenders and saw it sail 60ms over the midfield into the hands of Lynch/Darling/Whoever was there and felt lucky.

Mostly from lack of composure. I saw several times Yeo, Lester, Crisp and Zorko would get the ball and slam it onto the boot. A+ For effort and trying, and it probably works well in the reserves, but in the big league the other team watches the ball for the same 6 seconds as your forwards.

Have to agree that the team selections were wrong. Need to start playing Brown closer to goal and we need another marking option up forward. Also our midfield is young but we still need more from it. Just too many times the Eagles midfielders were on there own.

If we dont go after the best available mid in the draft at our first pick i will be pissed. Our mids go missing for quarters - not good enough. The other thing for me now is believe that leuey is our most important player. There mids did as the pleased with the taps from cox and nat. Huddo triied hard but the big fella deserves a rest.

To be honest I'm not too frustrated with the game but I hope a few of them that didn't put in nearly enough effort get a massive rocket from the coaches. Some of the players effort was nowhere near good enough. Inexcusable at this level.

Saw it coming, and that's possibly the worst part about it. Disgraceful, unacceptable, and just torture to watch.

Banfield, Crisp, Lester, Hawksley, Wrigley and McKeever will be very lucky if they play again next week. I'd drop them all and bring in Rich, Drummond, Karnezis, Beams, Lisle & Polec if fit.

Just embarrassing. We've earned back a lot of respect from the competition over the past 2 months or so, but we lost most of it today. There are some wins that are so good that even a loss the next week doesn't detract from the positive direction the win has sent the club in. That one's a loss that regardless of whether or not we win next week will not be atoned for. It'll take a big few weeks to make up for that.
