Haven't read the gameday thread, but have read the autopsy thread and this one.
My vent is the number of posters who never participate on this board, (some have been on the forum for many years but hardly post), but always turn up when the team plays poorly to tell us all why we're shit. Never here to discuss the virtues of the club or players or strategies or selections or news or any other views, but always here after a flogging to tip a bucket of shit on the place. Then they have the hide to be surprised or offended that their comments are challenged or rejected.
As I said, I haven't looked at the gameday thread, but I am guessing the same passers through have been in there too chucking their toys out of the cot.

I guess it probably wouldn't be so bad if contested marking was a strength of ours or we had Jeremy Howe in our side and considering we don't, one can only question the mentality of why we do it.

Another incident which I think typifies many issues with the way we play is that late in the third quarter, Cutler was in the central corridor in our defensive 50. Taylor leads hard in space in the middle of the ground. He is ignored. Another Lions player, also in space behind a Swans that then went to track Taylor is in space and is pretty much in the centre of the ground and is free. Yep, he too is ignored. Cutler then kicks to someone out wide who then kicks to Taylor who is now hard against the boundary line on the half back flank. The commentators were equally as baffled as to why we wouldn't take any of the two options that presented themselves in the middle of the ground.

Whether this is the "gameplan" I don't know, but it definitely isn't the way to go about winning games of football and attacking up the guts. We seem to want to invite the opposition to be able have as much time as possible to set up and make it harder for ourselves to allow our forwards to find space to lead into.

Brain fog.....sadly, we have a long, long way to go...we don't understand basic geometry questions of shape, size, relative position of figures, and the properties of space....It's an oval there will be less ground space boundary side as you go into the forward line... going along the boundary will have a higher chance of a turnover.

We go up the guts quite a bit so l think it was just a confidence issue to why they didnt hit up taylor in the middle.

I know that feels Skoob.

Also those that aren't content to just be miserable themselves and have to ensure others are as miserable as them. Some even seem to take offence when someone looks for a positive and insist on tearing it down.

Now I am sure someone will turn that on their head and say that the door swings both ways and that it's just as unfair to deny someone their right to be entirely negative without someone trying to "attack their opinion" by putting a positive spin on it, but when it comes down to it, the overwhelming majority of people support a football team to derive enjoyment out of it. That deserves protection.

Everyone feels the bitter disappointment of a loss, but to me, some people have lost their way entirely and (like Skoob said) only manage to live exclusively within the negative margins and seem to claim a monopoly on disappointment and anyone anyone looking for positivity or a long term perspective is accused of being deluded, ignorant of what needs to be done to improve the team or my personal favourite... "thriving on mediocrity".

The majority of people who have still managed to hold on to what supporting a footy team is all about (enjoyment and solidarity regardless of success) don't deserve that crap. So yeah, like you Skoob, the ones who come out of the woodwork exclusively after a loss to unleash vitriol and hysteria as though they are sacrificial martyrs and that supporting the club is their terrible cross to bear aren't worth the effort.

I just play "Llamas with Hats: Cruise Catastrophe" and pretend I'm kicking all the negativity off a boat.

Kezz has been having trouble as well..so bound to be others.

  1. BigFooty Performance Issues
    *****************************************************
There have been some performance issues in the last couple of days which have been caused by something creating database locks. Most likely this is due to an add-on that was part of the recent upgrade. As such a number of add-ons have been disabled which will make certain functionality unavailable whilst we investigate this issue. More add-ons may yet be disabled.

Unfortunately it isn't an issue we can recreate at will and probably isn't related to issues of capacity, which means that it will be a few days before everything (less the culprit add-on) is switched back on.

Just seems the sensible solution is they should switch all the potential culprits off and delay the troubleshooting until the footy is over for the week.

It's bloody frustrating typing a long considered post then being unable to submit it.

There is a reason Coles leave the stacking of the shelves to when the customers aren't there.

I LOVE upgrades!

This just reminds me of the time one of our programs was updated with NO testing, and I had to go around and rebuild EVERY SINGLE PC ON CAMPUS.

Because I was the stupid cow who picked up the ticket.

Anyway, there was one contest where Patfull was blocked from getting to a very winnable contest. By one of our players. Ever swallowed a whole handful of Gummi Bears at once? It was the only way I stopped myself from throwing myself down on the ground and throwing a temper tantrum.

No communication. No sense. Do ANY of our players have braincells?!

The AFL is now not about the quality of the football (its bad to watch now with the brain dead zone/flood) its about TV rights and money. Better off watching bush footy now. For example I would rather go watch a movie then watch the Hawks vs Geelong (I just check the stats after the game). Footy now is like watching a pack of seagulls fighting for chips in the grass. A compressed fitness comedy of errors. Who has the best pack of conditioned running seagulls wins.

Now a lot of armchair AFL fans will come out an poo poo me because they get there rocks off with draft pick 1 (better get a running machine hey !). But here take it from a man who booted over 900+ goals.

Mathew Loyd said he wouldn't like to play now (I agree I hate watching Brown being molested by 3-4 blokes every flooding week).

For all that, if I was to be given my shot at AFL level again, I would want to return as a key defender.

A forward who says if he was playing the **** they serve up as modern footy he would come back as Loyd the defender !!!
The AFL fitness comp who can run the best like a pack of seagulls.

Case closed the quality of the footy is dying.

Yeah, I feel like a bit of a sore loser complaining about the quality of the overall spectacle of the code when my team is playing terribly and I am sure Hawthorn and Port supporters are having a ball, but the game really is in a bad state at the moment.

So many players around the ball causing stoppage after stoppage and frustrating tiggy touchwood free kicks due to one of the 28 players at the contest accidentally brushing the head of someone who ducks over to get the ball.

The running expectations of players is killing off the traditional footballer in deference to the marathon runner who kicks massive floaters into the congested forward line.

The epic one-on-one player battles of the past (like Jakovich vs Carey) seem to be going out of the game altogether.

Seems to be increasingly more common these days that when a team loses, they lose big time.

Ugly.

I always try to be positive even when I am feeling negative.

AFL is over-coach and over interchanged... I hope they one day ban runners who just run around coaching, and let players play with instinct. Want to make a positional change, do it with hand signals on the sideline or wait until he is subbed or at a break...better still give onfield leaders more onus to make the subtle positional changes. Interchanges should be absoulte minimal in this day and age of peak fitness... AFL interchanges are out of control compared to other sports

Why the **** is our midfield so inexperienced and the Swans so experienced?? How is it possible that they had so many players with hundreds of games experience in their side and we had so many youngsters!? I just don't understand how they could beat us when they had all these players that are older than 25 but we had all the young guys!! Whaaaaaaaa!????

Wrong thread but not selecting Moloney is part of the reason.

Spot on!!!! And I'm new to this forum and club! I am baffled by some of what I read!!!
Frustration and disappointment and anger is one thing but blatant perceived comments of hatred towards players and their efforts baffles me.
None of the players on the ground wake up in the morning with the aim to go out and play a crap game and play to get spanked week after week.

I don't mind so much the negativity, hell, even some of the ridiculous; footy is an emotional ride after all. It bugs me when it comes from those who contribute nothing for weeks or months on end and only turn up when the chips are down to use the board as a dumping ground AND take exception to people disagreeing.:thumbsu:
