In that case we need a new "Positive Vent Thread"

Could focus on a few of the younger guys having almost breakout games e.g. Harwood, Green, Lisle or Bewick or start up the sack Vossy chants again but I'd prefer to stay positive and try to enjoy the last month of footy before the off-season starts

I'm still feeling positive! Like I said, Adelaide better look out, they're in trouble!

And the best thing is, I get to pump up Joelly all week and no one is going to say boo (and I plan to take advantage of it, you know you're all going to jump off the bandwagon at the end of the week and I'll be all by myself again :().

Can't wait for Tuesday now!

And I for one think Voss had the right idea with Beams. I think the sub is a great way to bring a player back into the side who hasn't played senior footy in a while.

Having got home well into the morning I have reserved my judgments until the cool light of day.

I would say that was one of the most ordinary games of footy I have ever been to. I would suggest our high possession (Geelong at their best) game plan is not suited to the current cattle.

I was bewildered by Beams being left on the pine until we were 46 points down.

The Yeo for Maguire move left us one big man short I felt and we were exposed. If Casboult kicked straight we would have lost by 10.

It amazes me that Garlett and Betts continually terrorise us everytime we play them yet we don't learn from it.

There is much work to be done.

For the past three years the same things were being said. If this or that player was in the team it would have made a difference. Every club struggles with their top players being injured. Check out the Eagles list, or the Dockers, or Collingwood or Geelong or any other team. All have some significant quality players out. Carlton were seriously undermanned last night and were there to be taken.
I can not see us progressing any further than mediocre under Voss.
Voss is not the coach who has the capacity to progress beyond the current mediocre standard.
The Lions Board needs to have the cajoles to do what the Dockers did with Harvey.

I know this is the vent thread, and you're venting.

BUT were you making these sorts of calls about us not progressing beyond mediocre under Voss when we beat West Coast and Bulldogs?

We've seen where we're going, the team as a whole just isn't developed enough to play that kind of game week in week out.

Yep, when it is all said and done, we're probably only slightly better than we were last year. I can see where the improvement might come from - but it doesn't change the fact that we need to be improving faster than the clubs above us.

Without some more class in our midfield, I think we're only going to be leapfrogging teams that are getting a lot worse (Hi Bulldogs! How's it going, Melbourne!) rather than us getting better. I'm swinging back to forgoing any hope of Hogan, keeping Retzlaff, Cornelius and Lisle on the list, and instead going best available mid at pick 8... and then hoping the combo of that plus Polec provides us with that extra class. Or we could get another ruckman... :) Defence looks solid (albeit some suicidal disposal coming out of there last night) and I think we just need to wait and hope on the forward line.

I agree with the concept, we should have had at least three goals more by qtr time, but I reckon the end score flattered us. At times in the back half it was like watching a train wreck in slo mo - you just knew we would turn it over and they would score.

karix I come to the conclusion three seasons ago that Voss was not the person to take us beyond mediocre level. A few wins here and there will not change my opinion. We have been nothing but mediocre in almost all aspects of our game. The Voss was inexperienced and lacked support etc... argument wore thin with me long ago. I do not need to go on about my views every week. There are signs that we have reverted back to the pre-review culture among the football department. I am concerned.
If Voss goes on next year to hold his position IMO it is only postponing the inevitable Primus type heartache for all of us.

Beating the Bulldogs is nothing to sing a coaches praises about, they're crap and starting to bottom out. They have a senior group that is past it, the star players are old or broken down and they lost their best young midfielder to GWS.

As for West Coast one win against a side isn't enough to keep the coach, look what happened in the return leg, show it was more like a fluke than a step forward. Port Adelaide defeated Carlton & St Kilda yet still sacked the coach. Our board is too lame to make the decisions that we need to take the club back to the top. Voss will never make as a contender again.

We need to scrap the whole idea of recruiting players and go and recruit a proper coach. I say we chase Choco as hard as possible to get him away from GWS. He has a proven history of developing players and getting the players to play for him. If we don't we'll be as crap as the Victorian cheersquad for the next decade.

I have complete and 100% faith in Voss as the man to lead us to our next flag. Yeah, go on, flame me, I don't care.

Voss made a few boo boos. Part of that was also the culture that Bowers and Kelly had instilled. But now we're on the improve and I believe Voss is a part of that.

You obviously weren't reading the port board in his final years.

Pretty bloody hard to coach as side when the club is paying out 90% of the salary cap and spends less than anyone else on the football department. Port Adleaide have been self destructing from the board down since 2007. The play was and still is toxic. He is and always will be a better coach than Voss.

Would you rather a proven top coach or a bloke who can't even pick the best 22 each week

Best 22 according to whom?

NONE of us have any idea who is really better than whom at the club, we only have our opinions and the knowledge that Patfull is better than all of them put together :)

Good to know that when a club succeeds it's due to the coach but when it fails it's due to the club.

Choco won one premiership while choking badly in finals several times and being embarrassed in one grand final. That record isn't all positives.

I'll ignore the comment about picking the best 22 because I remember port fans have similar problems with Choco in the end.

I thought this thread was for metaphorically punching our fists through the wall after games so that we could leave the review thread to discussions and debate as to who what where why and when etc ... somehow I got it wrong as we seem to be having to explain on here *why* we punched out the poor innocent plaster (hello Alistair!) rather that just letting it go. There was a post about a lot of negative posting in the last 12 hours whch I *hope* was all over not just here 'cause this is the place where negative posts live and move and take on a new life of their own in a glorious paroxym of self destructive glory.

Hmm ... that is the second post in a row just now where I am not sure my brain was all there when I typed it ... wonder if it is anything to do with the virus and the slightly wavy unfocussed look the screen has atm ...

I think there's a instinctive urge from some of us to protect parts of our Club. Like a mother protecting little Jimmy from the mean old teacher who just doesn't understand that little Jimmy is gifted and needs room to explore his unlimited genius. :)

Venting the frustration I have for Hear us Roar Facebook page and some of the fans. Uneducated idiots. instead of identifying defiencies in the players, execution of skills etc. the loss is blamed on Voss and the 2009 trade period. Every week...

Do yourself a favour and never log on there again!
