Of course you are right. I always favoured the guitar when I was procrastinating rather than writing my Uni essays.

Amazing how you can ALWAYS find ample time (and motivation) to practice an instrument (drums in my case) when a uni assignment is imminent... yet it collects dust when you have free time to do whatever you want and no pressing course-work due... ;)

Or when you have a one year old and a three year old biting your ankles!

Well excuse me Mr Voss!,

Quote from the Club website from the Coach himself

"We've got West Coast next week at our home venue .. and we've talked a hell of a lot in pre-season about playing well there for our fans."

As a Victorian member it's really heart warming that you "a hell of a lot" of time pre season contemplating with the playing group about playing well for the home fans!!!

This explains in one paragraph exactly why they play non accountable football away from home, it obviously wasn't and isn't a priority?

Wonder how many other AFL Clubs are planning to win a flag by only performing in home games?

We down here are fans too Vossy and would like a little more committment, so that our families actually enjoy watching our team in a handful of Melbourne games each season. Not sure about all the other interstate members but I DO NOT get a discount for watching my team turn up without the same passion obviously saved for the Gabba!!!

What the heck?! That is just down right ridiculous to say! I only have one chance a year to see my team win (I'm in Adelaide) and let me tell you they better bloody well turn up and perform!

Aside from the fact that I'm not in Brisbane, it is an idiotic comment to make that you only want to play well at home. You should friggin' bloody well turn up and play your best at every bloody game!

Yep, you're actually in a worse position than us Vics!

Up side is though that they are yet to play that "one game" in Adelaide and with any sort of luck they couldn't be any worse than the effort put up so far in Melbourne against the Dogs and Roos.

yeah good call. you Vics don't get too many games, and to have those two performances in there, well, i don't even know what to say!

I like kittens.

Obviously now that I've stated that, I cannot like anything that I have omitted and therefore want to commit genocide on everything else.

The omission of something doesn't mean the lack of it. I know perfectly well this is the vent thread and, as I've posted elsewhere, I've gone through the Lions' insipid performances at every game I've seen live in the last ten years. But because he wants to perform well at home, it means he doesn't want to perform well everywhere else? **** me, that is one of the stupidest things I've read.

Obviously, I am aware Voss is not saying he doesn't want to perform elsewhere. I don't think anyone could actually be that idiotic. For me, I just needed a vent. I have been getting pretty annoyed with the lions lately, not regarding performance but other issues which I won't bring up as I feel it may start a bit of an argument. Especially seeing as people brining up contrary beliefs is what has been getting me a bit revved up. Hence, rather than venting about those things, I decided to have a crack at the next thing that came up. It was an overreaction by bottling up other vents!

Although I understand the statement is not implying Voss does not want to try in other games, I still think it is one of those comments that is a bit irrelevant in that no joke you want to perform for your fans. But, there are Lions fans in many other states too. Just seems weird the need to mention that you are focusing on performing well at the Gabba for fans. Your focus should be on every match regardless of where it is and how many fans show up. If it's not an issue well then you shouldn't have to mention it. Although, it is probably more an issue of acknowledging to fans that they will try because they appreciate their support and do not want to let them down. Especially after the performances thus far. So, I'd say it may be more of a reassurance for home fans as opposed to a need for players to put in extra effort. Still, I don't think it's a required comment. Especially when some of the old Fitzroy fans in Victoria already feel ostracised by the club in recent years.

For me the jumper thing I felt was a deliberate attempt to move away from Fitzroy once and for all. As someone who was living away from Melbourne at the time of Fitzroy's demise it was gut wrenching. I spent much of 1997 as an agnostic and it was only when I returned to Victoria and was convinced to play football again by one Ken Hinkley and was in need of a training jumper that I walked into the sports shop and saw the Fitzroy Lion displayed proudly on the front of the jumper that I jumped on board with the Brisbane Lions.

For whatever reason, the previous admin decided they no longer needed the Fitzroy link (however tenuous that link was) and in changing the lion they went through their own version of ethnic cleansing, paying only tacit respect to Fitzroy.

I am questioning my own support of the club, the links I had to it are moving further away every day. Of more of a concern, I am questioning the continued "brainwashing" that I have perpetuated on two of my three ankle biters (the eldest bloke having defected to the Cats at the start of '07 - good timing!) and can I actually continue to enforce them supporting a club that we live so far away from, and due to our location can hardly ever interact with. I look at the experience "The Defector" gets and compare that to the "Loyal Lions" and it's chalk and cheese.

I feel for Voss, in this instance I think he's a victim of toeing the party line.

# Note - I still have that jumper and it has a No.3 on the back.

"We've got West Coast next week at our home venue .. and we've talked a hell of a lot in pre-season about playing well there for our fans."

So that explains the no show in the first quarters outside of the gabba?
Every single game outside of the gabba this year has been a train wreck/ soft and weak.

HIT the dam ground running so I can watch a contest on the tube. At least I can go do something
better with my time after 15 mins up here is Brisbane. I feel sorry for the fans that show up when this team is on the road just to watch them get put to the sword.

It all went down hill when that STUPID lion showed up on the jumper.
Soft ugly lion.

To quote Ogden Nash...the trouble with a kitten is that it eventually becomes a cat...(please don't delete mods as some humour is desperately needed on this thread).
The same with these critters.

They start off their little lives looking so lovely and then this...

Behold the return of the chooks to this thread.:D
Andrew Raines set the poultry free on his Roster Watch thread and now they have wandered over here!

Probably more appropriate here on the "The Sky is Falling! The Sky is Falling" Thread.

Does the Colonel have a strong resemblance to an aged UK based Australian Entertainer who has allegedly been involved in the Jimmy Saville investigation and if so does it affect your experience with the chicken?
Tie me kangaroo down sport you might be right! Although I'm sure it is pure coincidence.

I'm so confussed now...

I'm seeing ducts instead of vents, thinking ducks and seeing chickens and everyones talking turkey!

YOU CAN ALL GO AND GET TURDUCKEN!

sorry to get off topic but as much as I'm looking forward to the British and Irish lions tour I'll be bloody happy when they're gone so I don't have to keep being mislead by my google reader headlines into thinking stories are about the Brisbane Lions.

Headline today read "lions sorry for bad taste tweets" and I was thinking bloody hell what has happened now, only to find it was the B&I lions account which had a photo of an impala impaled on a fence through its giggle berries.

Really starting to piss me off!

I have a cat who has mysteriously migrated to my lap.

Plus if I yawn in the morning he likes to stick his paws in my mouth. Gross.

His sister (also a cat, in case you were wondering) meows. A lot. And scares herself silly by accidently turning on the printer.

To stay on topic though...I want to vent about idiots who obviously have too much time on their hands and decide to remove their hair. Not mentioning any names, but it seems to be South Australians who are the worst for it. Guys, it's a crap look, grow your hair out and look like men, PLEASE!
