I take your point Gumby but I think it is easier said than done.

There is a limited market for sponsorship and corporate support. Sports sponsorship in particular is not necessarily where the big corporations want to put their money right now. Then you have the coverage issue - why spend a fortune on sponsoring the Brisbane Lions who get next to no free to air coverage, are buried in the sports section of the paper and lucky if they get a 1 minute mention on the nightly news?

Finally, it is hard to find a brand that is willing to attach itself to a losing club.

I think the only way we will get more money in the near future is to find non-footballing sources of revenue or more handouts from the AFL.

Not the right thread for it but when Dean Warren was interviewed on Sports Today on Wed night, he was asked the direct question re: the call made to go to Arizona for pre-season when there was no senior coach in place.

Warren's response was a little confusing (to me), but he immediately referred to sponsors getting behind it and there being a "key group of corporates" that were going on the trip too.

I actually felt a little reassured, thinking that there were still sponsors willing to fund a pseudo junket training summit.

That was my underlying point. They will have to prop us up untill we can stand alone. Sydney is listed as a great success story but it was achieved via a TEN percent allowance allowing them to be competive on field. Also the AFL covered half tge cost of ANZ stadium . Sydney have been in the finals for 12 years. its easy when you have more money then the competition.

Can we please have some consensus on the idiocy of our current slogan, Adversity breeds success... it's right up there with you can't have your cake and eat it... (well der). And like all other slogans recently has been a harbinger of doom and gloom. Look at whateveritakes, or they can smell us cumming.. or whatever. These are absolute bollocks and in a way have come to define the clubs more pertinently than we would ever have imagined. Adversity does not breed success. Unity breed success, success builds success. A good team builds success... not pithy devisive boardroom wrangling AKA Adversity. That is bluntly a crock of shit. So, for mine, I'm leaning towards something along the lines of "The Lions... we like it both ways". Or something that means something, and nothing at the same time. Thank you, it's been a particularly hard day.

Are you serious?

We haven't really adopted this rubbish as a slogan have we?

If so, they may as well have gone with : "Every cloud has a silver lining" or "It's always darkest before the dawn"

 x 165

Isn't this what was thrown at us in the early noughties? And we all know the outcome of that! It seems kinda circular. Allowance=success=remove. Remove allowance=shit=put on 'subsidy' (back on 'allowance', anyone?). Joke.

Sydney and Brisbane markets are fickle they support teams when they are on top. In an 18 team completion with a 8 team final series if we have the same teams in the finals year on year it gives the rest of the completion less of a chance to garner support if they have more money for dev etc than struggling clubs. I don't have the answer but that is a reality. It is nowhere as bad as say the EPL where only a few teams have a chance at the start of the season but really a lot of the experts at the start of the season put who the final 8 are and hey presto they are not too wrong. I know it is cyclical but if you look at some teams why they haven't won for a long time is it culture luck development smaller market etc. It is the argument used to stop Tasmania from getting a side. If it is not potential market size what is it? Budget size? Supporter base. Look at the average size of a GC or GWS home game. Or is about how much headquarters wants success? Sydney are important for HQ as they are the Sydney market and make a huge difference to get the 1.25 billion every five years from the networks. Cynical view I know but is there truth in it?

Off-season is the devil.
You always have trade month radio with the List Expert, Is it on this year? They'll have nothing else but us to discuss.:(

Really upset that Angarse has not stepped down and facilitated a clean sweep, i.e. new coach, new chairman and new board to "take us to the next level"...
Mediation appears to have achieved SFA...

Coming from a Melbourne fan I would think you would be happy with that? Every time I hear the word lions I'm glued to the source, it's a rarity down here that's for sure.

Bullshit that Sydney still have their allowance, spending it all on Franklin and Tippett.

Whilst we don't have anything to help retain our kids.

Yeah, the difference is kinda stark, isn't it?
