Can't believe some of the spin I'm reading on Polkinghorne:
out of form, really?
People he is a honest plodder, maybe suited to country football as a playing/coach type.

Yeo shows a lot more. Impressive, looks lively.
62% effectiveness but given its his first game, I believe it will only improve with experience.
If its only 65% Effective Disposals after 68 games (polks) then there is a problem.

Happy to admit that I had missed the 1% contributions. Perhaps I haven't been looking closely enough and my analysis is unduly harsh.

No doubt Kezz will put me straight on Tuesday, but after a quick look at the AFL website and from memory,
this is how Patful's year has looked so far.

Rd 1. Had a good game against Melbourne, beating Jared Rivers and making the best players.
Rd 2. Patfull lowered his colours to Waite who kicked 5 goals in the game against Carlton.
Rd 3. Made the best players in a losing side. Listed opponent Clancee Pearce kicked 3 goals.
Rd 4. Clearly took the points over Tom Lynch.
Rd 5. Not sure who he lined up on against Geelong. AFL website says Tom Hawkins, who kicked 6 goals. I suspect both Maguire and Patfull had a crack at Hawkins that night.
Rd 6. Patfull had a very quiet game against Essendon.
Rd 7. Patfull lined up on Ben Reid and managed 6 disposals in a losing side. That said, Reid didn't do a whole lot either.
Rd 8. Took the points over Jeremy Cameron in our win over GWS
Rd 9. Had a shocking first half, but seemed to nullify Aaron Edwards over the course of the game.

The pattern this year seems to be that Patfull does well against weak sides, but struggles when the opposition is stronger. No surprise there I suppose. Made our best players twice, but had a couple of shockers into the bargain. At this stage, he hasn't taken a big name scalp and where once I might have had some confidence when he lined up on a class opponent like Adam Goodes, I don't have the same confidence at the minute.

In closing, I don't doubt Patfull's courage and endeavour, but wonder if he has already started to taper off as a footballer and will continue to over the next year or so. Then again, I might be being a bit hard on Patfull.

Close enough to Tuesday as crap is to stinking. I'd like to apologise if in my rage on Sunday I insulted or otherwise angered anyone...I don't think I did.

Now, 3KZ, would you consider one Podsiadly of Geelong to be a big scalp?

Let's see, one mark, 7 kicks, 4 handballs, 36% disposal efficiency, didn't kick a goal to save his life...well below his usual standard no?

Three guesses who his opponent, who had 3 marks, 8 kicks, 4 hand balls for 66% DE, was?

I mean, even in his bad game against Waite he wasn't THAT bad compared to some more I could name.

The Essendon game he was played out of position. Still was pretty efficient again with 100% DE.

But these facts and figures don't really matter. What matters is that sheer awesome will always win through.

And Joel happens to be 100% pure awesome :D

I probably haven't convinced you, but I had fun trying.

Wasn't exactly great conditions for tall forwards. Hawkins's performance was unusual.

THE UMPIRES

I have seen some crap umpiring in my time, but that first quarter almost took the cake. I just wanted to rip their heads off so badly. It didn't get much better all game.

.
It's North......all that can rattling has paid off.....return in :spade:'s.. charity given both off and on the field.

Where is the team that wasn't far off beating Geelong and West Coast in 2011 and also gave a lot of pies fans a scare in the last 10 mins in the match against them? How can a team with a ridiculously young list get another pre-season into the cubs and bring in an experienced assistant coach along with all the other staff they've hired and go backwards?

Last year we were a team that lost some games we expected to win (Adelaide & GC) but managed to put up a good fight against majority of teams. This year we are winning the games we are expected to win and falling away far too easily in others. Sort your $%+% out lions!

Talking of getting in experienced coaches as assistant and going backwards...went to the after match function...Harvey was in fine arrogant form....Some bloke asked a question on a topic he'd just covered....Felt for the guy... Harvey paid out on him for drinking and daydreaming and not being in the moment and listening to him...

So bloody frustrated by our continued fumbling. Watched this extremely closely in this game and we continually looked up at what was ahead before we had finished gathering the ball, causing us to fumble. For $%^$ sake it doesn't matter if you pick the ball up and then get hit, you take the tackle and move on. Its better than not picking up the ball at all and watching the opposition take it and run down field for a clearance.

Continually a blight on our season and I'm thinking its not the dew that's causing this at night games its simply that when the ball is on the ground or coming to us in a handball we are too quick to raise the eyes when we don't have secure possession. Its a fundamental thing that can be fixed very quickly, and will result in a marked improvement in our game. Why the heck aren't we doing it!!?!?!?!?!?!

FP, I don't mind our coaches showing a bit (a lot) of arrogance if we are 9 zip and flying towards a flag. I love Jose Mourinho, Alex Ferguson type arrogance giving it out to media, supporters and all. But when your team is playing like a urinal and sliding in shit backwards fast, that is unforgivable.:o

Out of curiosity....

Can you remember what this question was?

Yep..If Luey is out for 6 weeks, then the season is pretty well gone, why do we continue to play Merrett in the ruck and not bring in Hudson or blood another young tall?

Maybe it was his idea and he was being a little defensive about it. Just a thought.

Obviously I was not privy to the content of Harvey's previous answers and he may or may not have covered this question but as we know there are some questions that need to be asked repetitively and the answer to this I would love to know.

Are you able to expand on Harvey’s view on exactly this question FP?

As best I can... went along these lines.

Leuey is repairing nicely and is on track about 6 weeks away... Longer is able to handle the demands of AFL and has a better understanding of the requirements than the other youngsters (unnamed) coming through. He has a better recovery rate than others. The youngsters will need to bulk up and be able to get through a full games both psychologically and physically at local level. Being in his first year Longer will be alternating in the seniors with Hudson and while Leuey is out, the games where the opposition are stronger you'll find that they'll be sharing the ruck dutys on those days.

In relation to Merrett....

The view of the coaching group, is they looked at the players around the 195 height and believed the balance of the team is best suited with Merrett playing through the midfield, as he has a stronger body, great leg speed & mobility and a good leap.

...(The abbreviated version, atm we have no ready available back up.).

****ing umps and Voss haters.

Please. For the good of my soul. No more Matty Nicholls for Lions games.

This. Worst umpire ever. If we'd lost, the noise at the final siren would've been equally as fierce, all directed at the maggots.

Beating the opposition when they had 3 extra on the field just made it so much sweeter.

Strained my voice yelling at Nicholls when the umpires came off the ground. He was 5 metres away when one WC player dropped the ball from a tackle and called play on...I get that sometimes umpires vision gets blocked but this was one where he had to have his eyes closed to miss it, was a shocker along with bunch of other calls he made.

Yep.....Nicholls suffers anal chaffing!

Ecclesiastes 3:8 says there is "a time to love and a time to hate."

I try VERY hard not to hate, wasted emotion IMO, but Umpire Nicholls really tested me today.

Now I always love my Lions but today was extra special sweet!
