While I don't like defending the indefensible, this thread should be about people having a vent about the team, players or whatever, whether it's a balanced viewpoint or totally bonkers and not having to answer people, otherwise it undermines to the point of the thread. May I suggest moving the discussion mods?

Personally I find this ganging up on 1 poster boring. Some are optimists, some are pessimists but we are all here.

as to the game. Melbourne in pissing rain & about 5 degrees agin the pre-season flag favotite. It blew out a bit more than wanted at the end, but IMO the effort & endevour was there. I can live with it.

It was the wrong thread but a few people asking why another person has an avatar is hardly making someone fair game. There's being negative about the club and then there is trolling. I had an immature response from my question so responded with patronising.

Anyway... The holding the ball rule/incorrect disposal is really grinding my gears. Drummond drops the ball against WC, some umpires would pay that incorrect disposal. Maguire decision from today was holding the ball and 2 weeks ago Lester was pinged for a similar amount of time yet it was acknowledged that it was the wrong decision. How does an umpire decide the ball comes out in the tackle or it's incorrect disposal, it looks like it's a flip of the coin lately. Bring on full time umpires. Vent over

Drummond down back can be frustrating but then damm exciting other times...Looks great when he rebounds but is a cringe worthy defender playing defensively! He should be played as a wing\HF with a license to push back to receive uncontested balls for rebounds

Drummond's evasive skills are elite. Hell, most of his game is elite. He just manages to keep his hands free every tackle, it astonishes me sometimes. He would have multiple All-Australians if his body co-operated.

The commentators calling of any holding the ball decisions are attrocious these days. They simply don't know the rules. Drummonds should of been holding the ball every day of the week. If a player has prior opportunity and doesnt get a legal disposal away it should always be a free kick, even if it is knocked out in the tackle. If there's no prior opportunity all a player has to do is make a legitimate attempt to legallly diposal of the ball. So they don;t have to get a legal disposal as long as their is an attempt to. My pet hate is commentators going on about incorrect disposal when there's no prior opportunity. As long as they don't throw the ball away, or just hold onto the ball with there arms free it should never be a free kick.
Commentators really should be forced to all watch the umpire dvd/get a lesson from the giesch at the start of the year, 99% of the public understand the rules based on what commentators say and the amount of time absolute crap spills out of their mouths is unacceptable. Can't believe alot of them still have jobs with so little understanding about the fundamentals of the game.
I'm not defending the umpires either, they've been downright terrible in alot of our games this year, but questioning some decisions which are correct and then completely ignoring or being ignorant the incorrect ones is so frustrating.

Can see where you are coming from but cannot totally agree - Clark kicked the most goals for the lions in 2011 and averaged the second most scoring shots. Merrett is currently [3rd in 2012] averaging more - so this is a plus.

But on the other side of the coin... Patrick Karnezis averaged the most scoring shots last year [11 games] and is currently [in his 4 games] averaging the the 2nd most scoring shots [2.75 in 2012 - Brown 2.89 1st & Merrett 2.36 3rd]

One can only assume? that the club will play Merrett up forward and ruck until Leuey returns - then send him back, then bring in Patty for more of a forward/midfield role - which I believe he is currently having stints at in the NEAFL.

Good things will come to those that wait... well sometimes - have a little patience + faith BP16...

Yeah exactly.

Normally umpires can't help but favour the team that is dominating but we couldn't even seem to get that. 7 to 2 frees at half time, 12 to 5 at 3/4 time and ended up 15 to 8. They just missed obvious decisions all day and most of them should have been to us. 2 free kicks for a whole half - that has got to be some kind of record low (for the year? since...?).
