Good to know that when a club succeeds it's due to the coach but when it fails it's due to the club.

Choco won one premiership while choking badly in finals several times and being embarrassed in one grand final. That record isn't all positives.

I'll ignore the comment about picking the best 22 because I remember port fans have similar problems with Choco in the end.
Playing finals is better than finishing in the bottom half.

My problem with the selection is that if we are going to be going with a youth policy why do we not give blokes a decent run. It's hard to work out in a week how someone is sgoing especially when they sit on the bench for long periods. Beams and Lisle are just two who should've got more games this year, whilst we kept blokes in the side who were massively out of form.

Part of the problem with the club is that we really don't seem to be going forward in any areas. The way the club treats its Victorian members is a bad joke. Show us some respect and you might find a few more people start buying membership again, keep treating us worse than a stray cat and of course you'll have a dwindling support base (I won't even bother starting on what passes as the Victorian cheer squad)

Enter BlyndFreddie please.

Beating the Bulldogs is nothing to sing a coaches praises about, they're crap and starting to bottom out. They have a senior group that is past it, the star players are old or broken down and they lost their best young midfielder to GWS.

As for West Coast one win against a side isn't enough to keep the coach, look what happened in the return leg, show it was more like a fluke than a step forward. Port Adelaide defeated Carlton & St Kilda yet still sacked the coach. Our board is too lame to make the decisions that we need to take the club back to the top. Voss will never make as a contender again.

We need to scrap the whole idea of recruiting players and go and recruit a proper coach. I say we chase Choco as hard as possible to get him away from GWS. He has a proven history of developing players and getting the players to play for him. If we don't we'll be as crap as the Victorian cheersquad for the next decade.

Good vent, but I didn't ask if beating either of those teams makes Voss a good coach, I just asked if iriel was singing the same song when we were winning as when we are losing.

He says he's been singing that song for 3 years and he's right, he just sings louder when we lose :p

Really? Not going forward in any areas? 4 wins last year, 7 so far this year.

The Victorian thing I can't speak for directly but I remember reading heaps of happy Fitzroy/Victorian comments about the way the new admin has been dealing with them...

Before making a comment like that a search of my posts re; Voss would have given you an idea about the frequency, the content or loudness of my Voss specific posts.

Again, try and remember what this thread is for.

For venting.

I start watching the game last night and feel all warm and fuzzy for 5 or 6 minutes until we start squandering our dominance and good work by missing simple shots on goal and then the ^%#$@ Blues get it go forward twice and punish us on the scoreboard and then Banfield does what Banfield does and I get madder and angrier by the minute and then we go into the 1/4 time break leading by a miserable 4 points when we should have been up by 3 or 4 goals and then we come under pressure in the second quarter but somehow hold up not too badly, thanks only to the excessive swearing I've done at the TV but we end up trailing at half time and my mood is getting blacker and I'm screaming at Voss to piss Banners off and bring Beams on but he doesn't and then I knock a plate off the coffee table and it smashes into 50639 pieces one of which bounces off the tiles and cuts my leg and then the third quarter starts and my swearing (not to mention bleeding) becomes more profuse and then ....WTF??......down by 46 at the last break and I'm telling anyone who wants to listen that WE are hopeless and the umpires are cheats and Voss needs a full frontal lobotomy and my wife tells me to keep it down or the neighbors might call the police but I remind her that they won't because they've become used to my away game ranting over the last 15 years and then we dominate the last quarter but absolutely murder at least 3 more simple shots on goal in about 4 bloody minutes courtesy of Harwood, Bewick and some other imposter who I can't remember, each miss being accompanied by a plainly audible F-Bomb from mine self and then the game is over and we have lost and I am forced to console myself with the last two of my 6-pack of Bundy and Cola cans and then I do a bit more muttering and whinging and then I watch the Olympics for a while on Fox and then I go to bed still in a sulky mood 'cause the Aussie girls get pipped for the gold in that Elliott class match-racing sailing thing.

BUGGER, CURSE, PHOOEY, DAMN AND BUGGER AGAIN!!!

Wow and only one full stop.
Excellent vent Luthor:thumbsu:

Luthor, sounds remarkably like my evening (except substitute single-malt scotch for Bundy & Cola).

Parallel universe ?

a common feeling really. it's got that way for me that I hate w/e's. i have found the only way i cope (with the continual disappointment & frustration of losing games we should win) is to have zero expectation. that way i am not an emotional wreck for the majority of the week & i can cope with another under-performing, skill riddled, inspid performance the like of what we have had now for what it seems forever. it certainly is a chore to watch them or listen to the games. each week you think it will be different, but it isn't very long into the game & you realise it isn't, & we are going to have more of the same.

the other frustration for me is that nothing ever seems to be done about it, players who need to be dropped aren't, & there is no major change to the way we play from week to week. voss & others talk the talk (we will not tolerate medicrity, we will not be gifting games to players, players will have to earn there spots etc etc ..) yet they don't carry it through with actions

we might have improved on the number of games won this season from last season, but there is more to an improved performance than that.

I got more pissed off this weekend because we could very well have won it. Plus Quigley handed me my arse in SC after injuries to Riewoldt and Thomas to compound my misery.

Couldn't have said it better...I look forward to reading the usual inevitable 'fluff' pieces this week that will be written and spouted at the various press conferences.

WRT to your second paragraph, what has infuruiated me most (bar two exceptional wins, over WCE and WB) this season compared to last, is that despite 2011 being the merged club's worst season in the win/loss column, I have been more disappointed with the team and lack of improvement in certain players and lack of fighting spirit. At least in 2011, despite losing 17 games, you could see effort and desperation and I was of the belief that we were generally on the improve. Also our losses last year were not blowouts like this year, noting that two losses this season were the second and fifth heaviest losses in the merged club's history. Whilst we have got more games into certain players and everyone is a year older, I'm not so sure that some players who I thought would make the natural progression in improvement have already reached their ceiling and to be honest, I don't have the same optimism compared to this time last year.

agree 100% with this. last year there were times were you could walk away from a loss with head held high, proud of the boys for giving it their best shot, not too many 'honourable losses' this year i'm afraid.
i approached 2012 thinking bottom eight at the very worst, when we had voss & co telling us the boys had come back from the end of season break in better shape than previous years. i guess i believed them & expected far more as a result.
their chronic lack of skill under pressure & the number of turnovers and freekicks given away, at crucial parts of the game have also been a source of distress to me. This was evident last year & possibly the reason we lost close games in the end. i thougt it would be an area that would be concentrated on over pre-season & the number of times this occured would be greatly lessened. also despite the comment that they were the fittest they have been for years, there have been numerous accosaions this year where the team has appeared slow & unfit.

i could go on, but it's too depressing ....

Every time a fair to good opponent clicks into gear, we just get blown off the park with barely a whimper. Need some warriors out there who are prepared to kick against the pricks when the chips are down.

This, or FFS learn how to control the tempo when we're up against it. Do we even have a 'slow ball' strategy? Seems we get sucked into the oppositions game plan far too easily and then can't stop once they get on top.

That's about half of what there is to M.Williams, and arguably a long stretch in being so positive at that. A lot of Port Adelaide people talk about the "golden ticket policy" that Williams seemed to have with regards to selection and not being willing to play younger players ahead of aging premiership stars. Williams was able to extend his career at PA long after its used-by date by getting a few stirring wins each year by getting his aging stars to "play for him" in a handful of games (eg: Showdowns against the Crows) and playing on the emotional baggage of it being hard to sack a premiership coach.

Additionally, I'd say that Port Adelaide's current woes, which look like extending well into the future, can largely be squared at Williams. His record after 2004 is largely deplorable, save for the fact that Port Adelaide were able to get to a GF after a very good season in 2007, only to be smashed by a record margin.

There are many better candidates for the Lions than Williams, in my opinion, and I'd be disappointed if we ended up pursuing or getting him as coach.

What a disgrace. We have our fair share of feral and/or idiotic and/or reactive nitwits.

My ignore list grew significantly tonight.

To be fair that was our worst first quarter of the year, I wanted a public apology I was so angry and even said we wouldn't beat the dogs or port.

Hindsight though I feel silly now and probably fall into the reactive nitwits. :p
