I just got home from the game. Everything I could possibly say had already been said. Nothing to add really!!!!! We were a mighty club, now we're a bunch of soft and gutless players.

What is wrong with our mids? On paper they are good a good fit but when they play everything they do is wrong be it slow ball movement, poor decision making or they just can't get their hands on it. They have been around long enough now to know each others weaknesses etc. They have not gelled at all. Look at GCS their young mids in the first season together were dominating contested possessions and clearances at one stage they were ranked top 4. The Lions are ranking bottom 3 the last 4 years....

Just came from the game, on todays showing it will be years before we are good team.

Only got too see the second half, this is what stood out to me:

1. We were lazy, at the game this was clear, not so on TV I guess but when North were switching the play they had numbers running across the ground when we had close to none when we switched it.

2. We were bombing the ball into Brown/ Martin way too much, what happened to in the NAB Cup where we were hitting players on leads, especially Bewick.

3. We were making too many mistakes which we shouldn't have made, rookie errors that were made by guys like Rich and Redden, especially McKeever though.

On the bright side Pap looked good in front of goal, on got a handful of touches but got them where they were needed, Patfull looked alright especially with his courage standing in the hole infront of Petrie on the lead and cutting off kicks

Such a shame when you go to a game and get smashed. My dad, my bro and I flew down from Brizzy for opening weekend to get smashed by the dogs. And now this week the Melbourne fans see that, with what only two more games left in Melbourne for the year? Very disappointing.

The umpires were the worst I have ever seen. If we touched a NM player it was a free. Browny was being held to the point he couldn't move and it was ok.

I will never understand what we have done to umpires.

Spot on...we need to find a Joel Selwood (oh we passed on him in the draft)...seriously, Rich can't get the ball in the middle unless things are rosey, rockliff can't kick a flat ball, and redden is seriously going no where. I think Rich and Rockliff should be groomed as half forwards where they can become elite in those positions. We need to recruit a gun ball hungrey mid

I agree with you we were second to the contest, but that doesn't mean you can give a high tackle. Frees were given to NM at every opportunity, we couldn't buy one.

how many ways can tonights performance be described? lazy, unprepared, mentally weak, indirect. last week I said that without Browny firing we are nothing. it can't be disputed. it's very obvious we have players who aren't willing to give 110% when it's their turn to go.
i personally can't see where we have improved. i'm over these pathetic performances.
and can someone explain clearly, what exactly is vossy's game plan? i bet every person that answers that question will give a different answer.

I think we really need to put a premium on guys who are prepared to physically compete, we just have too many passengers who are happy to sit off a contest to see what happens, or let an opponent take first possession.

The problem is, who have we got in reserve who fits that description?

I have a lot of issues with Voss as coach...but most concerning is voss 's lack of ruthlessness towards under preforming players. Voss the Legend captain v Voss the coach are remarkably different. Voss was ruthless as captain and demanded so much, but as coach he comes across as everyone's mate....this will become his downfall

Yeah I'm sick of seeing our boys second to the ball or attacking the man or ball watching. I would much prefer we gave away contact with the legs frees, as opposed to playing bruise-free footy. These guys just aren't putting in enough. Simple as that.

Totally agree...add a premium to those who get 2nd and 3rd to a contest...too many times our players watch a single team mate go into a contest alone

Somes up my thoughts.

The lack of intensity was extremely disappointing. Sick of hearing our players throw up there thoughts of how important games are in the lead up & then produce such a lacklustre/half hearted effort.

The inexcusable part to me, was that senior players feel they have the right to display absolutely no discipline. Petty 50 metre penalties, soft free kicks, free kick reversals, etc. What gives these senior players the right to set such poor on field examples to the 3 kids playing their hearts out. This is not the type of culture I expect within our club. Heartbreaking to see Pampa have to hand the ball over within kicking distance - due to petty selfishness.

Vossy must stamp this out immediately as we became an ill-disciplined rabble tonight.

Well, at least we were consistent again in Melbourne. Again, I saw a number of Lions fans making a bee line for the exits during and at three quarter time. Who can blame them though. Its not like the players give a stuff when they cross the Murray River, so I suppose why should they.

It is absolutely astonishing the contempt the club has for its Melbourne supporter base and those travelling from regional and interstate areas. It is almost laughable speaking with other random Melbourne based fans before the game who also commented that they were expecting a belting. I was so sure I had a $250 on North to win by over 39.5 points; that's how sure I was and after a couple of minutes, that was never in doubt.

I honestly felt we had lost this game once the side was announced. Did the match committee honestly think they were going to come down to Melbourne and roll North with 8 players with less than 30 games experience, not to mention naming 3 players with one game between them. Incredible. Throw in Martin (who has absolutely no idea and a habit of leading into the same areas as Brown or better yet, draw his opponent into the same contest as Brown).

Seriously, how are we going to improve by playing Martin and McKeever in the same side. Sure, we may get away carrying one, but these two have absolutely no footy smarts whatsoever and it is hurting us.

As for Voss. My faith in him is completely shot. I know it is early, but as a club, we are going backwards. For whatever reason, he just cannot get them up for games in Melbourne, IMO is a poor gameday coach and looking in from the outside; has possibly lost the players. It is clear he is unable to motivate them, a shame considering how self-motivated he was as a player. Nonetheless, whichever way you dice it; the message is clearly not getting through. We should have moved for Hinkley when we had the chance and to be honest, outside of Paul Roos, I can't think of another name of interest.

So what rubbish excuses are the club going to come up with now to explain such a performance. I certainly won't be holding my breath anytime soon and even if they do, I'm over believing them.

As crazy as it sounds, I feel personally offended by today's performance, especially after the shite they dished up in round one.
