Yep - as the analoge audio cassette was/is to music so were/are the 'homeboys' to our 2014 flag aspirations.

[ps- God help my son who has just started up a 'hobbie' music cassette distribution company (soon to be listed on the Flying Nun NZ web site I hear (John)]

Was saying to the wife the other day it would be amusing if audio cassettes had a fashionable hipster comeback similar to what vinyl is currently experiencing.

Still remember getting a cassette walkman and a cassingle of Urban Dance Squad's "Deeper Shade of Soul" for my tenth birthday.

I got the CD single "Boombastic" by Shaggy for my 10th birthday. I think we both know who the winner is here.

The producers of highly commercial, radio friendly hip-hop/lite-rap for white suburban boys?

Mum used to make up tapes for us for when it came time for moving between various states and/or visiting my grandmother in Canberra. I miss my Walkman sometimes.

I had one with dual head-phone sockets - I can remember singing [screaming-out] mental as anything songs with the soon to be sister-in-law, who was also hooked in and dueting, while we stayed at some French hotel at 2-3am - You cannot begin to imagine how amazingly funny an angry Frenchman can sound to a pissed aussie tourist at that time of the morning in the early/mid '80's - well... maybe you had to be *there  :D

So if we had cassettes, the "go home 5" would've stayed and we'd win a flag coached by a commercial 90s rap producer?

Nup - the board on the advice of a focus group, would have purchased beta video instead!

Its quite annoying how all the "experts" and "analysts" seem to keep thinking that we will be pretty much the sh****st club out of eeveryone. This articl (sorry not sure how to add it in) says we wont even win 7 games. They say that because we lost all this talent off the season we will do really bad. They obviously dont know that only 1 player was a regualr 22 or choose not to mention it.
It is doing my absolute ****ing head in over at the ladder prediction thread

Wait a second. Who has ever thought of Jay Clark or Sam Landsberger as an 'expert'?

To be fair, there is at least one Lions supporter in that thread who hasn't exactly covered himself in glory.

Don't worry about it mate. They have no idea about a team that's been largely irrelevant the last few years and is well out of the Melbourne bubble.

We've won 10 games the past two seasons, lost one guy who did anything substantial last year and potentially will gain 3-5 useful best 22 players, plus a strong core of players 22-25 coming into their prime (most important factor for a team's improvement). The 'taking time to learn the new game plan' argument doesn't hold too much ground either when you consider other sides who have blossomed early under 1st year coaches recently, unless you're utterly abominable like Melbourne and Mark Neeld. The draw is quite terrible though.
But somehow we are bottom 4 material, winning seven games?? Don't worry, that's media and BF hype talking.

I think if we had this years team last year (how I think we'll progress this year) then we would have won 13-14 games. This year I think 9-11 wins will be where we're at again

Wait is that just because of the draw? Think you might be overestimating the impact of a good or bad draw. 1 or 2 wins is the difference between a shocking and fantastic draw.

Well I have a bit more confidence in us than I did a month or so ago, quite a lot of 50/50 games if we play up to potential, so it could be anywhere around 10 wins IMO

Looked at every single game and came up with this: (I was surprised)

  1. Sydney - 17 - Lose, Win, Win, LOSE
  2. Hawthorn - 17 - Lose, Lose,
  3. Port Adelaide - 17 - Win, Bye, Lose
  4. Fremantle - 16 - Win, Bye, Win, WIN
  5. North Melbourne - 15 - Lose
  6. Geelong - 15 - Win, Win, Lose
  7. Richmond - 13 - Lose
  8. West Coast - 11 - Win, Lose
  9. Brisbane - 11
  10. Gold Coast - 10
  11. Carlton - 10
  12. Essendon - 9
  13. Collingwood - 9
  14. Western Bulldogs - 9
  15. Adelaide - 9
  16. Melbourne - 4
  17. GWS - 3
  18. St. Kilda - 3
a few upsets in the finals

I had a limited edition cassette of XTC's English Settlement. It was numbered. I loved that album and I loved that cassette. Trouble is I played the thing to death. And I mean death. I wore the goose out. I still get teary and vent to this day about that:(

Did same with a bootleg Velvet Underground tape. 'Twas a long time ago!

Don't really know how one can derail a vent thread but somehow our guys seem to have achieved it.
I blame the new Moderators. Bring back that guy from Brisbane Town I say.
