I used to post on this board years ago (under a different name) and after just returning from living overseas I feel the need to vent to someone, anyone!
I can't remember us having a team in the last 10-15 years that consistently kicked straight. Its a joke. We should be recruiting to fix this problem. It should have been fixed long ago. Because in the end, athletic ability, toughness, 'X factor', will only get you so far and if I'm not mistaken the point of this game is to score the most points, not get the most possessions, take the best mark, etc.
Even our field kicking is letting us down. I would say daisy had a fair game. It would have been a good game but his kicking was average. I know the stats say he had a good effiency perc. (around 70+%) But I don't think this takes into account that alot were floaters to a contested situation, many times 2 or 3 on 1 to the saints.
Malthouse is losing the plot. Why drop Jack for Caf? I agree Jack deserved it, but bring in someone who can replace him in the forward line. Dawes must have made a move on Christi or something coz Mick must have it in for him. I know theres the argument that we went smaller to combat their run out of defence, but have you noticed their run comes from the likes of Goddard, Gilbert and Fisher? All 6foot3 plus. So they easy accounted for us when the ball came in floated high (most of our entries) and then still ran it out.
Leigh Brown and Toovey on the other hand seem to be able to do anything and still get a game. What do they have to do to get dropped? I know toovey wasn'tour worst, but his disposal and awareness are not afl standard.
Also, I think leon drops his head too much when he has some serious pressure applied. Its worrying as we tend to turn to him for the spark.
Overall I hate to say it, but thats us done for another year. I know its silly to give up so early, but over the last 2 rounds I am seeing the same old problems in our game that have haunted us for god knows how long.
